Hey guys, I normally don't post stuff like this on MR, but I guess you could say extenuating circumstances. I'll probably be in and out quite a bit the nxt few days due to immediate family emergency. What was supposed to be a shopping trip for groceries turned into a trip to Valley children's hospital where my son got 9 stitches in his lip and looks like he went three rounds in the ring with a meat cleaver. Long store short, he slipped in a puddle and ate shit and bit through his upper lip. He also chipped one of his front teeth and loosened two others. Poor kid is in for an extreme world of hurt next few days. I'm not asking for anything other than well wishes. It's 3 weeks before his birthday and the kid is turning 10 and honestly I'm just so overwhelmed. I'm actually crying right now as I write this because I don't know what to say. I have a lot of work ahead of me from doctors visits, trips to the dentists, missed work, and legal woes. Top it all off I'm still in school and this is going to put a huge cramp in my ability to study. The kid is gonna need me a lot and I'm gonna need a lot of support as well and I know a lot of you are strangers but your well wishes are appreciated. Thanks for listening to my ramble Steffi/Marc/Clara/Starshine/Ciaran |

Ciaran, My thoughts and prayers are definitely with you during this difficult time. It's a challenge, but your dedication as a parent is obvious; I'm sure you'll be able to it through to the other side. Perhaps you and I can "sit down" and we can talk about the overwhelmed aspect. There are times when we just feel like we're drowning and the waters are rising- so many things to keep track of that our brain just shorts out. Sometimes sitting down and talking through a plan helps you realize that you don't have to do EVERYTHING right now. What can we reasonably get done during this day, the next day, etc. Break it up into small, achievable goals and just start crossing things off your list. Usually when I'm overwhelmed by like 10 different things I need to do I get stressed out and wind up doing none of them. Then I'm tired because I'm stressed and even more time has gone by without me doing anything, so even more stress is created. But making reasonable daily goals and taking small steps will help you feel better. When you've got your appointments scheduled and you've set up your work schedule as best as you can you'll feel better, because you'll have a plan. Right now is just survival mode, which was necessary- but it'll burn you out before long. Lets slowly, steadily, start to chip away here. Ten years from now your son is going to remember that you cared about him and you took care of him when he needed it. Keep doing your thing- and please find me on irc or through mail if you'd like to talk more. Sometimes we need our close friends and family- but sometimes objective internet mostly-strangers can be a very effective resource as well. Thoughts and prayers, K |

I'm his aunt and he's doing much better. The stitches took and regardless of him being a VERY active kid he was able to go back to school right away and he didn't pick at his lip! He'll have a scar for a long while, but hopefully as he ages it will look better. His chipped tooth got seen to, and the others were able to settle better while he was on a soft foods diet. (He got sick of popsicles REAL fast!) We went camping right before his birthday and he got to swim and go fishing and eat hot dogs and Smore's! :D |
