Godfather Rankings Started by: ChristianGato on May 25, '16 20:24

This is something I was considering to give the game an "End game" feel. A 300 day old Godfather for example, has little to work towards.

So, I suggest a ranking system for those who have reached Godfather. An all time league table would provide a top spot to aim towards, giving those at the top of the pile something to keep them motivated and feel like they still have something to achieve.

Every now and then a thread pops up to nostalgically run through who had the most impressive run or what they achieved, however wouldn't it be sweet to be able to visit a page that gave you that info?

How to rank them? Some clever maths solution I imagine that would remain underwraps as to not fully reveal the persons abilities, as people seem to be touchy about that. All factors considered, wouldn't you like to see who are the Godfathers putting the work in?

  • Gun Strength
  • Days Old
  • Jail Skill
  • Petty/Felony Skill
  • Posts/Threads (Quality not quantity, using the current system)
  • Level
  • + all of the above for their crew members

These would of course appear after death and would be a sort of posthumous award, but I'm sure there is room for something along these lines, to help increase the longevity of the game.

This sounds like a cool idea. To add to it, I think it would also be interesting to have a "Conquest" category. That is, Godfathers who killed more of their rivals would be ranked higher, rather than simply ranking them by pure gun strength. There are many Godfathers who obtained powerful guns, but not many used them to their fullest potential.

The problem that I see with this, even ignoring peoples touchiness, is that the game changes quite a lot. For instance - the bg cap never used to exist, so people had huuuuuuuge amounts of defence, compared to now where it has been lowered repeatedly. This would have had an impact on account length, and therefore gun strength and all of the other things that literally take time to get more of. But that isn't to say that the ones on the faster 'cycles' (for lack of being able to think of a better word) are any worse at playing the game than the ones on the longer 'cycles'. It just means that the turnover was faster in their times because of factors outside of their control.

So yeah, long story short, as much as I'd like this it doesn't really work when you consider how much the game changes over the years.

I agree with you on that part, if there is no maths solution to that then it might be something that would be reset once a significant change like that was implemented.

I still believe that there is something to this, in that an 'ultimate goal' could be factored in to maintain interest and offer some sort of reward for all that clicking.

Once you take that bullet and lose everything, what reminder is there that you ever put all that work in?

Report Post Tip

Um... Well, it might not be hard-coded, but oh....yknow there's always the memories of those who served with/under you as a reminder lol. :P

Would love to see this implemented. I think it would as stated give GF's something to push towards and also give us something to look back on later.

I'm going to quote someone else entirely for another response to this which sums up my feelings in a much better way than I could express, and also link you to two similar threads where this was suggested before so you can see other feedback.

Quantitative measurements completely ignore the context and the environment around them.

ThomasRourke never had the biggest number on his shot record, but given the environment he was in (when Death WBs were highly common and targets really were a struggle to find) and the context (he was head and shoulders above his rivals) it's still one of the most impressive guns MR has ever seen. So judging his gun against those of today doesn't show the correct picture and completely ignores many pertinent facts.

It also completely ignores the impact someone has/had on our world. Someone with the highest wack record or the most XP might be completely irrelevant. If they die in the first wave of a war, never opened their mouth, nobody even knew who they were.... do they deserve to be in a "Hall of Fame"?

If someone deserves to be remembered, the community will remember them. Conversations often throw out names like BA, MEM, Ray, Sly, Anita, Oliver, Marietta, the good and the bad of the Rourke clan... and too many others to list. These are based on the true impact those people had on the lives and characters of those around them, not on a meaningless number (which in my opinion would do more to devalue the places of those that truly deserve memory than to honour those that happened to click the right pattern of buttons).

The problem with what you quoted is people come and go, most of the people listed in that quote don't play anymore I am guessing or do so under a different name. I highly doubt people will suddenly ignore good leaders because they are not on the leaderboard. It is just a way to remember those who put in the effort to make it to the top of the top of their time. I think anyone who doesn't understand that this game is in a constant changing state so you cant 100% place someone now with someone 10 years ago and accurately compare them. That's the same as comparing hall of fame QBs from the 60s to current QBs. The stats don't match up, that's because the game is constantly evolving. We don't ignore those players and what they contributed to the game though, and we certainly don't abandon the hall of fame and forget about it. It has a place in every game worth mentioning, even though the game is evolving and changing.

That's fine Ewiv, but I am responding to the suggestion that these are used:

  • Gun Strength
  • Days Old
  • Jail Skill
  • Petty/Felony Skill
  • Posts/Threads (Quality not quantity, using the current system)
  • Level

Which are all quantitative amounts, which literally change over time in terms of what is 'good' and have completely different meanings depending on the timeframe.

And like has been said - this game isn't all about numbers and how high you can make them. It's about influence, and having an impact. That's not something that can be given an actual value or number or be measured in any way.

I want to revive this suggestion in light of the recent ranking/comparison talk we've seen in #Main.

The general concept is that Godfathers can be ranked once reaching the rank, on an 'all time' table. It gives those in that position something further to aspire to and might help avoid losing interest/going idle.

Original concerns are that changes are made often and a persons standing could be falsely represented as a result. I feel that unless these are significant changes, we could overlook them. Or, the table is reset every year and the person top of the table for that year is recorded on a second one.

I love this idea huge +1, the head Godfather could even have a “special” rank capo di tutti capi which is just Godfather. But since they’re the top one it could be a cool little thing to strive for, for the late game players

You know, I think there should be a godfather of the whole city that's over the district GF...correct me if that's already the case

Also, the BG cap seems stupid, although I guess no one's going to have 1000 BGs in real life
