Where I disagree though is with this statement:

Explain to me what the point of playing a roleplaying game is, when you continue to consort with the same group of people time and time again?

I'm not saying that it is entirely wrong. I'm saying that if it is detrimental to your or anyone elses gaming experience then you shouldn't do it. I've seen and been in many alliances since my start on this game. I still talk to one or two people that I was allied with from time to time. This doesn't alter how I play.

But, then we have people that are coming back and, instead of playing the game as it should be played, instantly seeking out old families and allies. This doesn't change your playing experience. Sometimes its just more fun to switch to the other side when you die in a war.

Anyone that knows me knows I was Antonio_Montoya. I was a Made Man in FCUK's family when he warred New York. I was killed by Jono (Formerly PoisonousJelly.)

Was a fussed? Not really. It's a game, and I gave Jono a ribbing about it for a while. Why? Because me and Jono have history on IRC and in game. But we don't let that change how we play.

When I decided to come back, ThomasRourke was still Godfather of New York. I, a former Made Man of FCUK, had been outspoken about my disdain for Mr. Rourke. So, you ask, why did I join up with Deimne IN New York?

Because, my friends, it's fun. This particular time I can be honest about it. I had originally joined Deimne to attempt to play the "fox in the hen house" role. Then the roleplay got to me, and I got a form of stockholm syndrome. Nothing against Billy. ThomasRourke was a character. Billy is the player. Again, me and billy get along outside the game. But, he was the target of interest at the time of my creation.

I did not ever get to play the fox in the hen house role. In fact, I don't believe it would have been as fun as it originally seemed. I have had way too much fun being the LHM to the NEW Godfather of New York.

I haven't killed anyone from your bloodline Phelix, I certainly remember when you tried to kill me though :(

I remember this as well. If I remember correctly you were going by Clause_McSlapmore at that time. You had sent me your money, an ample sum I might add, to hold for you as you believed you would perish in that war. In good faith I held it, attempting to shoot you to either speed the process up, or take the money for myself. My true reasoning is lost to even me now. Such was my noobish belief in the game.

If I remember correctly, this was also the same time I gave you the name which has stuck for ages now. Coming to me in IRC, you laughing at my failed attempt, and me letting slip the secret that I originally had read your name as "Clause_McSlapawhore" which you loved and it has since stuck.

It has recently come to my attention that your ample physique deflected my bullet.

This is for those who decide "O, so and so got a crew, so lets throw away my current character and all its hard work to join up with them." Its those that limit themselves to only that small circle of friends that seņor Sphinx is talking about.

This could be extended to them as well, but I was more aiming it at the ones that start up with no intention of finding someone new, and desperately search out the old.

Personally I'd never dream of doing something like throwing away a character to go join another crew, but the implication that my continuing to talk to and work with old friends somehow makes me an undesirable presence on this site is still an annoyance that creeps up now and again.

If you took what I said this way, that was bad communication on my part and I apologize. I myself, as I have already stated, do the same. We also share a view on what makes this game fun. To me it isn't the era, it isn't the RP entirely, it is the community.

I'm not saying don't make friends. I'm saying don't let your friends influence how you play. I for one enjoy shooting my friends. They, in return, enjoy shooting me more. A lot more. Yes, I'm talking to you Rinaldi...Jono...basically everyone on the site...You all suck, to be honest. Is there anyone here that hasn't killed me?

Yes its True - I do enjoy shooting you very much :)

I knew it! Mostly because I remember glancing at your monitor and seeing my name in the wack screen...bitch :(

I can't say this particularly bothers me. Mainly perhaps because, for the most part, it's unlikely the sort of people that post these threads are ever going to go very far in the game anyway.

I avoid IRC these days because I can't be bothered with all the cliques and that serves me well enough. Of course, I still have the same set of friends, I just don't sit on IRC chatting to them as much as I used to and it means I can cut out the numerous idiots floating around.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't look out for familiar faces when I start a new account, I do. I think most people probably do. But for the most part, I like to think I can join any family and get ahead by proving myself to be a decent player. I joined Deimne not long after I'd just missed him/he'd killed me and it's not done my progress any harm.

IRC has a long and infamous history with MafiaReturns. It is not a part of the game. Any admin will tell you that. But, it also plays an integral role in how things are handled, and many families require you to participate on IRC at times. I hate that, but it doesn't affect me since I'm on IRC anyway.

This is because you know how to play the game. You don't let past deaths distort your perception of the game. Many new players have a hard time with this. This game has, or used to have, a huge turnover rate. When I first started I would get to Made min-time and be dead within a couple weeks. This didn't bother me. It intrigued me. Made me want to push forward. I grasped the fact that it is a game. Sure, when I first started I always went to the same family--In my case it was Scotland's The Chosen, or subsidiaries of that family. Doing so ruined the game play for me after a while. I was constantly being killed, mostly because I was also letting my previous characters deaths get to me on an emotional level. It was after the fifth or sixth time I was killed at Made that I quit playing.

I became an assistant, and the rest is history. It took quite a while for me to get over the letting death get to me part, but you know what, you grow up eventually.
