I have - in my not so long time playing MR - seen many people quitting MR and coming back like a week or two or even a month later, I personally quit I'd consider break as a more realistic expression because I always came back not very long after.

Through my chats on IRC I have talked to people that have faced the same problem, some said they couldn't spend 48 hours without MR others said they survived a long time that they thought they had overcame their addiction to MR but however they found themselves signing up again and looking for a family.

I know others could really overcome their need for the MR fix and go on with their lives, I know people who have quit MR for a few years - although they did eventually come back. Instead of just going round and round.

Anyway let me lay out what I want to find out from this thread for those who could leave MR, "What made you leave? What is your longest time away from the game? What would you suggest those who can't leave to do to get over their need of MR as you did?"

Please don't reply saying "Get a life" because I do have one and MR is part of it. Thanks in advance for your helpful replies.

Congratulations on learning rather quickly what several others have taken years to learn, and in some cases still have not figured out.  Hasty "retirements" are always good for a laugh.  Anyone who has been around for very long knows that it is just a matter of time before the junkie comes back for his fix.

I quit completely for about six months around six years ago, and then about four years ago I was playing at a pace for almost a year where I logged in only once per week.  My motivation has always been that I felt there were more productive things I could do with my time, or I was simply too busy with real life things to put forth much effort here.  This still holds true.  The amount of time I spend here is directly proportional to the amount of things going on in my life at any given time.  At the moment, I have quite a bit of free time, but hopefully that will not last long.

When I "quit completely" for six months many years ago, it was because I thought there were much more productive things I could be doing with my free time, but it turned out that the other things I ended up doing were not very productive, either, so I returned to this more enjoyable hobby.

Been playing for about 7 years. Have quit a few times, longest probably about 6 months. Though for a while, .org was unplayable and I jumped ship here. For about a year, I would only log in every week or so, like someone said. Other characters just don't get developed much.

Just now, probably 2 hours a day solid gameplay, but often go a couple of days without playing.

Quitting  is very hard on the bases mention above, I myself have had a long spell from the game, its been good... I don't play as much as in past years, I'm still draw here!! why? Its a place where I can escape the rat race, troubles in real life, nothing better after a hard days work just to escape into a little role play :)

Tips on quitting

- First and foremost, uninstall all chats, I know this is the best place to start try it out ;)

- When you have an addiction, you need to replace that addiction with something else, could be anything you enjoy doing, surf etc (crack lol)

-Also when playing something like MR, your always lacking in sleep And you know it.... Get some well earn rest.

I have been here few years now and never had a thread to say I am leaving, I have lost interest a few times and not been on few weeks but I always find it hard to stay away from here because of alot friends I have made here and I enjoy playing the game.

I've been playing MR for somewhere around 4 years(I started just after Scotland died) and I have attempted to quit playing several times. I believe my longest time away was 5 months tops. However, all I did was play other games which fail in comparison to MR.

I am not sure that I am as active on this character as my last, but I might be. I was logging anywhere from 12-16 hours a day everyday on my last character.

MR is an addiction and to several it seems more real than life itself. Some people out there live, breathe, eat and sleep MR. You know who I am talking about >.>

Personally, the only thing that can keep me away from MR is losing my computer or internet. So, if you REALLY wish to quit, that is a highly effective method. 

Alexander, I lost my Laptop, computer and internet but I found an alternative to play MR, I go to a net cafe every day to play.

I often take lengthy breaks, this is my first account in many years. I left after the death of a mr friend in real-life.

I haven't read through what other people have said but if someone on here is giving advise about how to kcik MR then I think you need a second opinion because anyone who plays MR should not give advise.  They have NOT kicked it.

I am currently at the my lowest ever level of activity. I have effectively 'left' the game to the point where my being here is only a token gesture.  It isn't a deliberate move and i'd love to spend them time I used to spend here 5 years ago but my RL circumstances (job) dictate I have 2 hours of free time a night and I am not willing to spend more then 2 hours of that a week sat here..

However, the bug will bite again and i'll be off. It's just a case of when and probably more importantly why.

On my most known Character Death-Knight, I logged in for roughly 10-15 hours daily. I was here a lot until towards the end of him where my personal time was being taken up more by growing school work. I have said multiple times to my RL friends or my Cousin I will quit 'one day' but as of yet I have no plans to.

I find MR a fun hobby I can do with my spare time. Of course as you can notice I'm not around half as much as I used to be a while ago. I just say that MR is now something I do in my spare time to pass that time. I have other games I can play and I do while playing MR in most cases but no matter what as long as some of my great friends are here I will be too.

Without my friends I wouldn't be playing right now. I can safely say that. Those people are the ones who keep my here on a day to day basis and I'm glad they are here.

The longest I've spent without the game is roughly 3 or so days and that was when my net broke. I love logging in daily and its a part of my daily things to do. I don't care what anyone says as its something I enjoy doing whether they like it or not.

So.. I stand by what Alessandro said at the end of his speech...

I myself am not a true veteran of MR. I have only been around a year and have gone through a couple of phases where i have effectivly worn my interest out. but i always come back onto it die to friends...or just to see how things have changed. when i started playing..I promised myself that i would one day get my own family and i hold to that promise firmly ;)

I have played for about 4 years, after about two years of solid playing every day i just got burned out and it was less enjoyable... I stopped playing for about 8 months. I then came back but it has yet to be as enjoyable as it once was.... It is still good enough for me to log in once a day but i rarely spend more then three to four hours ago...

I left and continue to play very sparingly due to the fact that the current game we all play isn't anything similar to what it was when it pulled me in and hooked me.

That being said I think this is a fine game for those that it is molded for.... It is just not my perfect cup of tea any longer. but i love zee people so i stay.

I quit once back in 73 after my first tour in vietnam, but i came back after i got sane again.

Premeir - I think having your first tour of 'Nam in '73 would have been as good a year as any to serve there.  Hell, I was there in '68.  That's when some real horrorshow stuff kicked off.

There is no way I can quit such a wonderful game, I tried to go without it when I was in New York, just went to a near library just to play :)
