"I have thought about this topic once or twice myself recently since my own father, amusingly also named Johnny, was granted auth and subsequently died before being able to take it.

I would be inclined to think that while the father was considered worthy of auth by his leaders, the son would still need to prove himself and earn the respect and trust of those leaders before he could, or should be considered for leadership himself. The son will no doubt benefit in time from the work that his father put in, but there are surely other people who would deserve to be considered before he is given the chance.

There are no right and wrong answers here I think, as there are invariably a myriad of factors that go into the decision to grant auth."
