| Societal Spread: Is bigger always better? | Started by: AnomanderRake on Sep 09, '16 09:32 |

Anomander pulls his coat collar up to shield himself from the harsh lake winds that whistle through the city streets as he climbs the steps of City Hall. Reaching the top, he turns, surveying the small crowd of passersby as they go about their business on this cold Chicago morning. Clearing his throat, he takes a breath and addresses the crowd. "GANGSTERS OF CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES & NEW YORK!!!" (He can really project his voice!) "Last night this question was brought up during the meeting chaired by GF-C DoctorBoom and I thought it was worth bringing it to the wider public to debate as it gained a bit of traction during the meeting. The question I ask is this... Do you think it is better for our society to group together and fill two or three cities to capacity, or to branch out and attempt to occupy all six? Many good points were made last night, but I'd like to hear your take on the subject. For my part I believe it could add a new dynamic to our society, as there would no longer be any "dead" cities, bereft of activity. The argument against leans largely on the fact that our population cannot sustain the occupation of each city, but perhaps if leaders agreed that only two of the three districts could be occupied at any one time, this could be negated. What do YOU think?" Standing alone on the steps, he lights a cigarette as he waits for the onlookers to consider the question. |

Layne is relatively new to the place.. Not sure if he was entitled to have an opinion at all, looked around and noticed little people standing around.. He lifted his finger to attract AnomanderRake 's attention and some peopled turned around to look at him From an evolutionary point of view, I would love to see how the current set of people, with similar mindsets, would evolve differently if they are placed apart from each other. Therefore I feel it would be better to have each and every town populated, as correlance would be easier to spot algebraically.. Layne shuts up and noticed people didn't understand a word, because of his weird overseas accent and rephrases: More'd be fun! |

Clasping to the cold shadows of the nearby ally BadWolf watches as a man climbs the steps of city hall and brings forth a pretty interesting topic one that he has heard people have many opinions about over the course of time. Letting the man finish his speech and another interject his opinion on the matter BadWolf steps out from the nearby; the harsh winds have no mercy this morning; pulling his trench coat collar a little more snug he begins to speak. Personally speaking I would love to see a new dynamic given a breath of life if our world would allow it; I would love to see the 6 great cities flourishing with crime. People will have their own opinions on the matter I know one would be "fiftengagillion cls and no crew members" it dose have to be that way I believe if you give it the chance to spread a unique and deserving individuals to take the reigns you open up more diversity and more options. Different ways of thinking and culture will take root in each city giving more choice to the aspiring gangster to choose from and maybe even older bloodlines a reason to come back. Some times more options open more doors you have not seen before. BadWolf takes a breath and gazes upon those who are listening On a different note something that i would also love to hear peoples opinions on Is the self governing of each city to stay upon themselves, Civil disputes and even power arrangements should be compartmentalize within its own walls and thus the relations on the new should be made to the outer cities for whatever mutual benefits of business. The reason I bring this up is because over a span of time I have witnessed cities leveled by another simply because they did not communicate with the rest so the rest felt insecure and that they had to go however I do understand some were just mere power grabs. The main hurdle of this however would be how power hungry the top will be in controlling more than their own city. [occ: and how we as a mass feel about that in the balancing and integrity of even being a GF of a city] |

With the exception of Godfathers, I believe every district should have a single 40-man crew. This, with the addition of GF crews, allows for plenty of space for mobsters around the country. It provides them with options for where to go, and it effectively diffuses the hegemonic "overlord" feeling following a single-city victory in war. Plus, crewleaders get an opportunity to run their own crews, in their own cities, with their own men who want to work for them. |

This is a very interesting topic and I have stood around thinking about it for quite some time. On one hand I can see the merit in just a couple of cities. It provides the illusion of safety for the Godfathers in that city. But I also see a down side to it. Ultimately it can feel stifling to others. As if they will not get the chance to expand their wings and fly. This feeling can create some hostility and resentment. We can guess that there will be civil arguments in the city about it or maybe rogues keep it in until they finally get bored enough to start shooting anything that moves in hopes of creating some change. But expanding too fast and all at once isn't necessarily good either, unless you can trust that the cities will grow as they are meant to. Or people will be spread so thin without the resources they need to gain their forts and become susceptible to attacks. What we really need is a balance. If we have such crowded cities then I for sure think they need to spread out into the empty cities that are around. There really is no need to create everyone in a cooped up atmosphere. Stifling is not the way to grow a community. However, be smart about it as well. |
