| Mayor and Godfather Taxes - Supply And Demand | Started by: Squishy on Sep 09, '16 20:36 |

To help encourage crews to explore opportunities in unused districts and cities, the following changes to Mayor and Godfather taxes will be put into place Oct 1st.
If you have 1 crews in a single district, the CLs will be kicking up the normal 8%, paying only the normal 8% taxes. The following families are grandfathered in under their current name, and will only ever pay 8% personally: We can offer a one time free move to anyone on the above list to move to another district in the same city provided that current residents of that district agree. Once you do a free move, you are no longer on the grandfathered list. |

Since I first suggested this idea, I've loved it. This is a great step in the right direction, but it's a very veeeery small step. only 20% of earnings need to be kicked up to the mayor to have 6 crews in your district? that's barely an impact on operations and doesn't really send a message that players need to stop hording 50% of the active user base into just a few districts. |

I agree with the late Archer, this is definitely a step in the right direction. However, I will disagree with Archer on this point: "only 20% of earnings... is barely an impact". That's a hefty sum, especially considering the boss is in a tight spot when it comes to collecting taxes (he'll be charged by the mayor and gf taxes regardless of whether his men kick up). That being said, with six crews in a single district, that isn't a particularly expensive premium on being able to house nearly 250 people per district (roughly 1/3 of the game's population, or about half of its active population). So, I do not believe that the additional taxes are too low; I think they're just right. I realize with changes like these you have to start slow, but presently there are no districts with more than 2 crews. If everything were moved up a bit so that two crews in a single district pay no extra but additional crews cost them +4%, I think that's both fair and effective at preventing the stacking of men in a single city or district. Especially considering that the most likely reason to bring in a third crew is due to a GF promotion crew, which offsets the tax increase because the GF is earning that money rather than kicking it up to an NPC (or whatever we call the godfather when there is no godfather). So, in short, if we step up the tax costs the numbers allow for no tax punishment on the addition of a GF crew, but three 40-man crews costs extra. Which, in my opinion, makes sense. |
