Tommy threw his badge into the river. This was it. There was no going back now. Tommy had been a good cop. He frequently made arrests. He was always on time, and he was happy to work the extra hours when needed. The residents of his district knew him by name, and were grateful for his presence. He treated those who fell foul of the law with respect, and was known for being lenient with young troublemakers too. He had won a couple of token awards, and even once he had met the Mayor for dinner. He knew it was all for show, but it was nice nonetheless. He was a rare cop. One that got on with both sides of the law, but for what? Sure, he had earned respect from a few local mothers, and fresh faces to the force always bought him a coffee, but where had it really got him? Tommy was no fool. He was getting older and his life wasn't getting any easier. He hadn't married, nor had he had any kids. He had the same problems as the thugs he locked away, and other than the occasional pat on the back, he had nothing to show for it. The money had been getting worse for years, the hours longer, and with prohibition, he couldn't even get himself a drink at the end of the day. A few months before throwing his badge away, Tommy had started taking bribes. Nothing major, just a few hundreds here and there to conveniently turn a blind eye when a drug deal went down. This helped pay the bills and meant Tommy could eat that little bit better. He figured no one was getting hurt, so what was the fuss? Dealers wanted to deal, and junkies wanted to buy. So what if he made a little bit of profit off the top? He had served his city for years with little in the way of financial recognition. The least he deserved was a few hundred dollar bills each month. As this continued, Tommy started to see more of the criminal underworld than he'd ever seen before. The more he turned a blind eye, the more he saw. He started to realise the opportunities he was missing and given his experience, saw holes in the operations of those who paid him off. Occassionaly, he'd point these mistakes out, and when his input spurned results, he'd always find that little bit more in his envelope. Eventually though, this all got too much for Tommy and his mind was made up. He quit the force, making up some excuse about early retirement. He said, he'd spent all these years being frugal and now he wanted to live the quiet life. The reality was anything but. After finishing his last shift and leaving the station for the last time, barely looking back over his shoulder at what had been his entire professional career, he headed straight to the river. Without as much as a second thought he threw his badge as far as he could manage. What was done, was done. There was no going back now. Tommy had switched sides. |

Thrawn had heard of Tommy he was one of those cops who started out with lofty convictions but years on the street had chipped away at him and like so many before him accepted the ye olde bribe and that was him hooked. One of Thrawn's many little birds scattered around the cities had told him that this guy Tommy went further thou, he had jacked his law enforcement job in to sleep with the enemy, he joined a crime family. Thrawn had seen his type before and agrees with HiMyNameIs that anyone who switches sides is a useless rat does deserves a slow, painful death but He's hardly going to be welcomed back to the old fold with open arms is he? You would want him under very close observation and on a very tight leash and you would maybe sanction having him endure the occasional simulated mock killing just to check hes on the right side as sometimes people like Tommy are no doubt can be a credit to a persons family. The very best of luck to you Tommy and your switching of sides and the money is better on the other side...providing you stay out of that damn casino! :/ Stay low and run fast! |
