GAME CHANGE: Container Crews Now Going Live Started by: Squishy on Sep 15, '16 12:29

Thus the entire point of permanent crew leaders providing sponsors to the container crews was mentioned Chibs.

I'd like to point you to BobbyMunson's post regarding that. He points out exactly what is wrong with this idea for new families and I feel no need to post the same stuff over and over again.

I never once said this was a bad idea. Believe it or not, we are giving it an effort to work, and we are saying what we don't like about it. That's actually what I did in my last post - there is no limit to how soon you can give feedback, right?

But quite frankly Otiag, you are right with one thing. I don't know how it's working and I am indeed judging from the outside. Why? Because I haven't had any experience with a container crew, leader, or member from one. I can, however, use my eyes and general knowledge of the game to make educated guesses.

I'm not sure where you're heading with the "house looks better" part though. If anything, I'm saying the container crews look better than my own. That awesome IWF and immunity is pretty sweet, wouldn't you say? I would love to see the inside of one to give you a proper opinion on them, but I can't do so without leaving my current family, and that isn't going to happen. This is the best I can do.

For the record, I wasn't generalizing any container crews - just sharing what I saw and how that could potentially hurt us. Nothing more.

Cheers for your response, though. Much appreciated!

From a new old head point of view for what it is worth this is a unique situation on here....I really deliberated over the choice to become part of a container crew but wanted to experience something new and develop in real time with this thing of ours..

My personal experience so far is that most of the post war relatives have been taken care of but we have a lot of newbies - I agree with a previous comment made that we would loose these potential new lives on here if they join and are not able to find a family and having no prior knowledge of the circumstances most would likely leave. I think there are a few perspectives here, some short term and some longer term and some from an overall game longevity view.

Most know we die here eventually - those that have been around a while know people so kin return and send a few mails and get sorted...for newbies this is not the case.

Right now I am busy training very clearly new people on here and this can only be a good thing.

Report Post Tip

I'll elaborate on the house looks better bit, which was more or less a "Don't judge a book by its cover" thing. Ie The house might look really nice in comparison to yours on the outside... but inside its a trash heap with trash all over the place, holes in the walls, torn up furniture broken tvs etc. Just a junk pit... You wouldn't know this by looking at the outside though. Or another phrase commonly used "The grass is always greener on the other side."

And lets not forget the invulnerability is only persistent while the crew is alive. As soon as Squishy ends a container crew, the cl of that crew can be freely wacked, just like anyone else in the game. I think you guys are making the negatives you perceive a bit TOO big in comparison to what they actually are. An understandable mistake for someone looking in from the outside, which is why I specifically made a mobmail out to every CL this evening urging you guys to come to us. We are ready and willing to assist you gents in filling your crews in whatever way we can. We don't require you to send a sponsor, we can work it out to find another means to get you the members you want. If all goes well, container crews will live for maybe another 3 weeks and then be gone as real crews fill the void that container crews are currently filling.

And as I said in irc, if some cl actually manages to make a god tier cannon in that time frame... they deserve it, more power to them. They coulda done the same thing right under your nose in your own crew without the invulnerability. All we have to do to prove that is look back at our history and some of the rogues that have popped up. Pika for example in recent history.

tl;dr:

If you can't send a sponsor, come talk, we'll work something out to help you out with getting members from container crews. We're here to facilitate the transition, not hold members from you guys. Communication is a 2 way street, not a 1 way. We shouldn't expect you to do all the work, don't expect us to either. Lets give this thing a good run from start to finish, and then discuss how it went afterwards, not burn it to the ground 1 day into it.

Fair enough, Otiag, fair enough. I can't disagree with anything you just said. It's a part of the game whether we like it or not, and we'll have to get used to it and find a way to make it work. Really only wanted to share my thoughts on this originally, not turn it into a debate of sorts. Funny how things turn out.

I'd also like to say, I agree with Tellurium. There's more than one perspective on the situation, and to be fair, we're the first permanent family to set up since this whole thing started. It's one of those times when you're trying to figure out how to make things work, find a good system, etc. All in due time, I suppose.

It's nice to see just how unified your container crew is, all uppers coming out here and sharing some words. Kudos for that!

I just wanted to give props to those that came out and actually had a discussion on this and didn't turn it into a pissing match because we all know that tends to happen around here.
The main problem I have seen with this so far is that when we get someone doing jobs for us and we start talking to them, they get picked up by a container crew before we get 3 messages in with them. Im not trying to hint that they are being whored or anything like that at all. Just that if we are speaking to them, another legitimate crew most likely is as well, so why are they going to a container crew in the first place? If there are multiple options of legitimate crews to do jobs for I'm failing to see why the container crews would be listed at all. They are meant to be a crutch so it would be nice when there are lets say 2+ crews on the board can we get the temp crews not to show up? Or make it known on the board they are only temporary. I can't speak for all leaders but if someone joins us and they just feel like they aren't going to work out here they are free to leave within a certain amount of time and I know many other leaders feel the same. We don't want to hold anyone back from enjoying themselves.
Working with a temp crew or really anyone else for help to get members just feels so wrong to me. We're mobsters, we tend to do things differently and asking/receiving external help to fill your crew feels cheap and lazy. I'm sure many of our older members respect this and feel the same way. There is a lot more pride in being able to fill your own crew and not have to abandon home and rely on others to do so. I told Bozeman I'd have his back until the end and never leave his side, just because times are tough and things aren't perfect doesn't mean I'm going to pack up even temporarily and leave home to work with others who frankly, I don't know who they are, I don't know what they are about so as a mobster why would I get involved in that? We have enough work to do here in the HQ with being a new crew if we spread ourselves we will just have even less opportunities to recruit directly into the crew. I know everything can't be true to the RPG aspect, but we have distanced ourselves from that enough. I'm choosing personally not to take it farther from playing my character and keep working towards bringing more of the RP back as it should.
Report Post Tip

Bobby, if anyone you are talking to goes to a temp crew, talk to the temp crew, and also the person. Let them know they joined a container crew that is meant only to hold them till they find a permanent home. When I contact people in regards to jobs, I always let them know right away that my current crew is a container crew meant to hold them only temporarily. I never give anyone the impression we are a permanent crew or that they should look to live here permanently. That is not the purpose of these crews at all. Don't give up on the person you where talking to just because they joined a container crew bud, keep up the conversation and they can quickly be recruited into your own crew with no hassles at all.

@BobbyMunson

"they get picked up by a container crew before we get 3 messages in with them. "

I would suggest increasing your number of jobs available.  With having the bare minimum number of jobs, this means that as soon as they do your last job, thats when you get notified.  So exactly 1 minute later, they are now doing jobs for someone else.  This 1 minute is often faster than you even notice the ASSOC. is blinking.

If you increase the number of jobs, it means that you have then "on the line" much longer.  Keep in mind its the first 3 jobs that cost the most, after that its greatly cheaper.

I have to say, I am not a fan of the container crew notion but obviously it's a reality that has to be worked through.

My main issue is, that if you have a container crew CL from DT and the RH is from DT, then presumably they are recruiting for DT. Alas, you can also have a sponsor from another city actively recruiting in this container crew. My concern is, that while this crew is helping to get members to get a handle on the game and get used to working together, how will it work when some of these will go to Detroit and the other city sponsors take their share of the members they recruited?

It hardly seems conducive to unity or maybe I am missing something in this strange scenario...
Report Post Tip

It works exactly like you said Trinity. The sponsors from other cities that are within the container crew take their sponsored members back to their family. No questions, no complaints, no arguements or grudges. We're not here to pick fights, we're here to facilitate new players into a lasting family, and help then learn and enjoy the game we all love.

Report Post Tip

Considering my container crew "sponsor" has a family of 20 and is from a family with two spaces, not sure how the maths works for that one Otiag.

Report Post Tip

Considering my container crew "sponsor" has a family of 20 and is from a family with two spaces, not sure how the maths works for that one Otiag.

Lets say an existing CL has now filled up their HQ and its time for them to expand.  They auth their family member who they have been preening to expand the family.  Their family now has additional spaces, and rather than starting with 0 members, they can half fill their HQ from the start because they have had sponsors in the container crews building up relationships with their associates for this very occasion.

Report Post Tip

And what happens if the person that a current CL wants to auth is one of the container crew CLs? Do they just get to take their whole container crew with them? So the container crew CL gets whatever perks you hand out to them for volunteering to do this plus a head start establishing their crew, plus this time under immunity to let them build and get their family set up.

And how long do we let the container crews linger? Where's the pressure on the current CLs to auth members? What happens when someone gets auth'd and people don't want to leave their container crews? At what point will they be forced to find a new home?

Report Post Tip

While these are valid concerns, you do realize it's been barely 3 days now right?

Report Post Tip

And at no point did I say "it's been long enough already!" I'm simply asking what I think is a very valid question.

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

And what happens if the person that a current CL wants to auth is one of the container crew CLs?

100% of all container crews will be shut down when there is enough auths by the current CLs to handle the load.  Some of them have pre-arranged to suicide when their role as a container crew is over.  Those that are not suiciding, are now regular members.  If one of the CLs want to auth one of them, they are more than welcome to buy a new HQ and become a crewleader.

Do they just get to take their whole container crew with them?

No, at this time if the other CLs have been proactive about expanding, then the sponsors they have in the container crews, as well as their own sponsors, as well as their own upper strucutres have already been working with and integrated in new members, so the only ones left in the container crews are the ones that you want nothing to do with, or want nothing to do with you.  Rinse..repeat for all other crews.  Whats left, will be dropped at the end of a warning period.  Those members can be sent an invite by anyone, including a new auth who formerly was a container crew.

And how long do we let the container crews linger?

How long the container crews stay around is 100% entirely up to the current CLs.  The formula I am using is that we have 24/7 job coverage by non container crews, and we have enough spaces for all incoming members.

Where's the pressure on the current CLs to auth members?

The two biggest responses I got were that they lacked the funds (so I offered loans, one was accepted) and they lacked the talent (everyone was under age).  So sponsor and hand requirements were lowered, container crews were launched which buys time so no one is left behind while we wait for whoever wants to be a CL makes it happen.  I can't pressure time any more than I already have.

What happens when someone gets auth'd and people don't want to leave their container crews?  At what point will they be forced to find a new home?

Container crews are not a permanent fixture, they will end, any member that hasnt joined another crew by the end will be warned, then dropped, and they will either join a crew or die unsponsored.

Report Post Tip

I should add the perks afforded to the CLs of container crews only last while the crew does. So NO the container CLs do NOT get to be authed into a new crew with invulnerability. They will be shootable just like every other player and CL in the game when the container crew ends.

Thank you Squishy

I'd like to pose a suggestion if we have to use the container crews to find new members. Can the CLs members list for these crews show all of their members? It's pretty much impossible or at least takes an enormous amount of extra work to find the people in these crews when they are not listed in the members list and when we get the silent treatment from the CLs of these crews. They say they are here to help, yet they ignore our mails. So I'm failing to see the help. I will say it's not everyone we are having this issue with as some have gone above and beyond with trying to help find home for their members. Just seems like people are going into these and never coming out and now we have a mess of crews across the landscape that are starving for members that are locked away in these container crews.
Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

Perhaps those crew leaders got busy? Did you try approaching in a friendly manner? I mean in this thread you have attacked them constantly. Give them some credit, they are probably fielding a lot of mails at this point. You could always try mailing them again, perhaps they missed it?

As far as sending a list goes, that would get awfully tedious. Have you tried the streets? Or keeping an eye out on the list? I know you say its a lot of work but it takes nothing to do a quick browse on the names you aren't entirely familiar with and just glancing to see if they are sponsored by the crew. Sometimes you have to put in the work.

Report Post Tip

Heaven forbid you should have to do an "enormous" amount of extra work to find suitable family members for your outfit, makes me wonder what kind of effort you'd actually put in once they are in your family if this is the case.

All your complaining about "member starved crews" is reflecting very badly on your crew leader, just focus on those you currently have if you're struggling to recruit instead of whining.

I feel pretty unloved I haven't been approached to join your family BobbyMunson, perhaps it's for the best though.
