How does a CL decide when to promote one of their underlings?  Are they able to see the amount of points one has?  Do they base it on amount of earnings? Activity in the streets? Based on the donations made?  I'm sure it's a combination of all of these things, among others.  But I'd like to hear it from some of the CLs themselves, and let me know what they think is the most important.  

This is not only for my knowledge, but hopefully newer players will also read this thread and understand what they need to do in order to make rank.

This is a question each new player needs to ask each of their CLs. Each CL may value different things. So I suggest you ask Serotonin what he expects of you.

To answer your question, each CL is different. No one can "see points"... although at this point Deimne may be at the "Neo-At-The-End-Of-The-Only-Real-Matrix-Movie Level and is able to see code. However, when a wise guy has enough points to get promoted a little "+" appears next to their name. This means that the wise guy can physically be promoted IF the CL is so inclined. Note that all promotions before this are automatic after 1/2/5/8-10 days.

Then the question is whether the CL thinks you've done enough to get made. Sometimes donations, earnings, street posts, etc. factor in. Sometimes it's just trust. It's really up to each individual boss- something is usually posted in the HQ explaining what would be required. So I've heard.

I base my promotions on interactions between myself and the member in question, their interactions with others in my family, their interactions within the headquarters, their interactions with others in public forums, their general activity, their earnings, donations, and just general attitude. Really for me there is no blanket set of qualifications. Each person is different and has their own set of strengths and weaknesses.

In the old days, a gangster could carry 5 units, goomba 10, earner 15, etc.  Now, I'm carrying 21 units as a Goomba.  I was told by helpdesk that that means I have enough points to make WG, just haven't met the time requirements.  So I could make the assumption, that if I was able to carry 25 units, that would mean I had enough points to make Capo.  And thus it is up to the CL to promote after WG.
