| Constant Travel Times | Started by: Zoro on Sep 18, '16 07:33 |

The travel timer in this game is not actually the time you took travelling to the city that you want but the time which prevents you from travelling again. So my idea is this, why not have a constant travel timer. That means it would only take you a constant time to wait let's say 5 hours travelling anywhere in this game. If this change would be implemented, it would prevent crews to keep establishing in cities like DT/CH and other cities would be more utilized. |

It would also drop the number of players online at a time by a large portion. Considering that you'd technically be 'in flight,' you wouldn't be able to petty or commit felonies. You wouldn't be able to break people out of jail. So what would be the point of being online? Not to mention, it would make wars last ten times as long as they do already, at least. Because how can you kill someone if you're flying in the plane? I don't like this idea. |

You don't seem to understand what I'm talking about. The travel is still instantaneous but constant in every city, that means the timer is set to a fixed time regardless if you're moving from LA to PH or CH to DT. |

Ah, forgive me. I was thinking of the way I saw travel done in another game. I'm still not a huge fan of the idea, though. |

So whilst the flight may be instantaneous, the check in is not? i.e. if you wanted to fly at 14:32 and you went to the flight tab, they'd say something along the lines of "Sorry, this flight isn't boarding for another 28 minutes." or "Congratulations, you have boarded the flight to *city*. This flight will depart in 28 minutes." (assuming the flight time was 15:00)? If that's the case, then I must say - I too am not a fan, purely because it would turn folk into sitting ducks if they weren't able to immediately fly out of a city; especially in the case of wars. The ready availability of flights, both normal and private, is what enables us to extend our longevity and conversely - eliminate rogue elements with relative ease. If I'm wrong, then by all means correct me, but that's what I understand your suggestion to be? |

I believe the suggestion is that all flights would require a 5 hour "cooldown" regardless of the destinations involved. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If so, that is how things used to be before the current system was implemented. Personally, I favor the current system. Why should a cross-country flight from LA to NY be precisely equivalent to the relatively short hops between LA-LV, DT-CH, and NY-PH? As previously mentioned, spending time "in transit" would be a horrible game mechanic; varying wait times are the best solution to give some weight to the distance traveled (or at least a better one). Not only does this system require one to think about their destination (and their subsequent time until their next flight) in a very real way, but it also makes the world feel more concrete, in my opinion. If you're a family from Philadelphia, what's happening in New York should feel closer to you than what's happening across the country. |

The point of the different times is to emulate real life where it takes longer to travel to some places than others. It is to encourage people to think about their destinations during war time. Given the era the game is based in it's pretty accurate. Squishy did take a lot into consideration when coming up with the travel times. Distance, era, mode of transportation, etc... Philadelphia and New York are closer to one another than Philadelphia is to Los Angeles so it should take longer to travel from Philly to LA than from Philly to New York obviously. |
