Vision vs. Stealth Started by: MikhailKomarov on Oct 06, '16 13:15

Unfortunately, the "process of elimination" is simply through spamming jails/pickpockets, and unless you're dealing with a profoundly incompetent or extremely short staffed take-down crew, takes only a matter of a few minutes, if that, to locate somebody.   If stealth was truly a nuisance, wars would be more dynamic than the current model of starting and ending wars with 1 or 2 waves, and perhaps the hitlist would be used for actual contract killing, rather than primarily serving as a venue to waste money  through posting vague, cryptic reasons to kill someone that are rarely acted upon.

When stealth becomes more than simply an inconvenience in real gameplay, I would probably happily line up behind this suggestion.

Are you kidding me? I'm sorry but have you actually participated in such actions? VERY recent takedowns I've been involved with have been postponed hours due to not being able to find a stealth Godfather or Don even. And that is from people of equal rank with maxed vision and whom kept up their posting.

I'm sorry but at this point, to me it shows that you haven't been involved in enough events to actually push this back. Or maybe you've just been extremely lucky. From personal experience I know its not the later. I'm not trying to offend or put anyone down.

Report Post Tip

Green - you're mistaken if you think posting doesn't net you more XP than Petties/Felonies, especially since they recently DOUBLED the XP for it. My suggestion? Get good at posting.

MikhailKomarov -Stealth characters have no real work to put in to remain stealthy unlike their vision character counter parts.

You do, of course, realize that the stealth given to someone on Stealth answers is really only effective after they've....wait for it...wait for it....RANKED UP? Does ranking up seriously count as "no real work"?

Even with 100% stealth, until you're Consigliere or higher....anyone with even a halfway decent info skill can see you. Not to mention that there's the fact that most stealth people are dumb, and don't have their OC's turned off, combined with jailing factors and Locals....... I don't think this needs a rework at all.

Back to my other point, though. This is a RP game, for fucks sake. Having to post REGULARLY in order to reap the benefits from it truly only seems...proper :\

Funny. Thats not true at all.

Report Post Tip

Then perhaps the people you have had working for you in the Information department are just absolutely awful at posting then. I know for a fact with minimal effort I could see 100% stealth Bosses and lower in less than a days worth of work

Report Post Tip

I'm not one to post a suggestion for the game without trying it for myself... This is from personal work.

So you say you put in the work to see Bosses with 100 stealth... You had to put in the work. I assume you had to rank up, post and so on. So what did the stealth person have to do for you to not see them? Nothing. That is the whole premise of this suggestion. And I'm more referring to people higher than Consig. Full stealth Don and Godfathers are much harder to see than you think friend. My original suggestion has always been to make it easier to see full stealth characters. The vision boosts are temporary. Why not make them more permanent?

I understand your argument and your views with wanting to post regularly but when a character doesn't have to post a single thread to gain one of the best advantages in the game, it doesn't seem right that the other guy has to do further work to see them. And especially when the stealth character can most definitely see the vision account.

Report Post Tip

Fair enough, suffice to say we disagree on a couple things regarding this, but I can definitely see where you're coming from.

Also, I was specifically referring to those < Consig. I'm all too aware of the advantages that come with choosing stealth and making it past Boss, one of the multiple reasons I prefer playing my Ras/Henri names.

Report Post Tip

I am pretty confident that my posts are grand, thanks.

And, unless the XP for posting was boosted 100x, nobody is using it as a means of gaining rank, which was my point.

Report Post Tip

I agree with most of what MikhailKomarov is saying. My last run was vision and I posted a decent amount, especially early in my run. Still there was never a point there I could see a stealth GFC in his own city (even when I was at Don). I was told that this was because I wasn't posting in the business districts. If this is true, it makes it even more difficult. Not only does a vision character have to post regularly and consistently in the streets but they also have to fly from city to city and post in the business districts to really have true vision while a stealth GFC doesn't have to do anything to stay stealth.

Also, Mithrandir, vision also depends on rank from what I understand, so vision characters have to rank up to get better just like stealth characters, so that "work" really balances out, still leaving vision characters with extra work to keep their vision up while stealth characters just have to rank up.

I don't believe the vision boost should go away. If I post a lot in the first month or two of a run and then get busy and can't post as often, my vision should still be there. Or, as someone else suggested earlier, make stealth tied some thing as well, with the same rate of decline. For example, PPing.

I was told that this was because I wasn't posting in the business districts. If this is true, it makes it even more difficult.

Clementine

Streets is "wildcard vision", it adds to vision accross the board in all cities.

Business District are "specialist vision" it adds vision (in a MUCH larger quantity) for just that particular city.

You can max out your info everywhere with just streets, but the same exact post/thread in a BD would make that particular city MUCH easier to see since its specialized.  (If this makes any sense)

Report Post Tip

Yes, the mechanics of it absolutely makes sense and that's exactly how it was described to me. "Post a bunch more in the streets or a couple times in the BD". Doesn't negate the fact that it's still more work when a GFC has to do nothing to upkeep their stealth.

But thanks for confirming the information Squishy, always good to know if something is for sure or just a guess by someone.

Report Post Tip
Funny but someone close to me, a Wise Guy, cannot see a simple RIA in their locals. Had to go thru their family's IA list to see it.
Report Post Tip

Squishy, I have a follow up question. Is it possible for a person to go full stealth and then post a shit ton regularly in order to get full vision as well? Or will their vision never equal that of a person on full vision?

Report Post Tip

Neveah, as someone who in the past has rolled 100% stealth and been able to see 100% Stealth GFC's in their home city, I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, it is possible. Hard as FUCK, but possible. (The required city-specific posts that are needed to raise it that high, and maintaining them, is a bitchhh.)

Report Post Tip

You must have done a frankly disproportionate amount of work to achieve that.

Report Post Tip
Siriusly lame how do stealth have it better what oh I pp u that only gets me 5k that's all oh and even killing some one u still see all or most their letters I've plaid on accounts where I had not vision I could still see all letters of name how do stealth have advantages only vision has advantages i mean come on if u have several bodyguards stealth can't do any thing no matter how much stealth try's to pp their fail and get caught or did u not know body guards make it impossible for steath

"Squishy, I have a follow up question. Is it possible for a person to go full stealth and then post a shit ton regularly in order to get full vision as well? Or will their vision never equal that of a person on full vision?"

Anyone, with the right amount of work, can see everyone in game.  Someone who starts off with full vision simply just has a lot less work to do so than someone who starts on, say, full stealth.

Report Post Tip

So if stealth is the only skill that cannot be trained at all, what's the point of starting anything other than stealth?

There's got to be a way to make stealth something that can be trained. Or make it so that no matter how much posting you do, you can never max vision unless you start vision. There's got to be a way to balance it.

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

Like all starting stats, you decide which stat fits your playing style.  18.1% of players think that 100% stealth is best for them.  To do this, they sacrifice a lot of skills in other areas which I believe is a fair offset for what you gain with stealth.  If stealth was over powered, then more than 18.1% of players would be on it.  If it was under powered, then I think less than 18.1% of people are on it.

Report Post Tip
Info sacrifices much more than stealth. And then the need to put in work to see people who didn't do anything to warrant their stealth but just start with those answers. Stealth has more defense, more wack. I think the biggest difference is the stealth person seeing an info person no matter what because you cannot raise your stealth.

I think what Neveah said was another great game suggestion. There definitely needs to be some balance.
