The chilly October air flows through the trees of a quiet Philadelphia suburban street. The dead fallen leaves rustle along the sidewalks and over the black pavement that makes the road. The faint sound of children's laughter can be heard as young Steven walks along the sidewalk, heading toward the direction of his friends house. His scarf wrapped snugly around his neck as the collar from his coat reached almost up to his ears. "Steven! Hey Steven, over here!" He hears a familiar voice shout out to him from across the street as he lifts his head up to see. "Over here! Come here!" His friend shouts as Steven quicken his pace, only slowing for a moment as he peers both left and right before crossing the street. He scurries up onto the sidewalk on the other side approaching his friend Pete. It was hard to tell underneath Pete's bulky coat but he was a rather thin, pale 15 year old kid that Steven grew up with because both of their mothers were friends. "Hey what's going on? I thought I was meeting you at your house?" Steven asks Pete, a slightly confused look on his face as he pulls his hands from his pockets and rubs them together to warm them up. Looking up and down the sidewalks, seeing the neighborhood empty and quiet. "What are we doing over here? We're not supposed to be near here." Steven says as he looks over to his left, opposite of the street he just walked across. His eyes widen as he looks up and down this area of wooded trees that rests between two empty lots at the edge of his neighborhood. All the children were told by their parents that they weren't allowed to go near this wooded area. Only warning them with vague mentions of "bad people" hanging around them. "I know.." Pete's voice almost sounds giddy as he grins back at Steven. Steven doesn't like the feeling he gets when Pete says that. "Great, so let's get outta here then." Steven starts to turn to walk away, just wanting to get away form here as Pete grabs his arm to stop him. "Wait! I found something.. you gotta see this!" Pete blurts out in an attempt to get Steven to stop and come back. His fingers grasping at his coat as Steven slowly turns to Pete. His curiosity was always getting the best of him. That coupled with the peer pressure from his friend Pete, Steven couldn't say no as he slowly and hesitantly nodded his head. "What is it? What did you find?" Steven asks puzzled. A little worried, hoping his friend isn't talking about going into the woods. "Just come on, you got to see this! It's awesome!" Pete started as he began tugging Steven's coat toward the woods, eventually letting go as Steven reluctantly started following. Swallowing the knot in his throat as his shoes crunched over the dead dry leaves and branches, slowly walking into the woods trying to keep up with Pete who had already stepped ahead a good 6 feet. They walked for a few minutes, the area getting denser with more trees and brush, as the leaves began to block light, making the woods they traveled through a little creepy especially for a young kid. Steven kept asking where they were going as his voice grew concerned, but Pete just kept repeating himself that he just had to see it himself. Eventually Pete stopped and Steven almost bumped into him. "We're here." Pete said as he nodded in front of him. Steven stepping around to stand beside him, his face looking at Pete's as his friend grins. Turning his head to see what he's looking at Steven sees it. Twenty feet in front of them sits a man slumped against a tree. Steven's eyes widen as his heart starts to race hoping that it's just some guy sleeping. Turning to Pete to start to tell him they need to leave but Pete's face is bright eyed and excited, already he's stepping forward toward the body. His shoes breaking branches as he moved closer. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP, GET BACK HERE!" Steven yelps in a hushed voice, knowing that there might be someone else around. Watching in shock as his friend walks closer to the slumped man who appears to be passed out. Stevens feet unintentionally start moving toward his friend, staying close, unable to believe what's happening. Tugging at Pete's bulky jacket to try and stop him to no avail. Pete comes within feet of the man noticing a revolver laying on the ground next to him. It was evident to Steven that Pete wasn't phased, especially with this man who now was evidently dead as was clear from the visible red stains on his chest and stomach. Pete's eyes focused on the revolver as he squatted down and reached for the handle of the gun. Picking it up and holding it in his palms. "Put that down! Why'd you pick it up?!" Steven urged his friend as he waved the gun around, a big smile on his face. Steven looked around nervously, just wanting to just get out of there and not look back. He watched for a moment while Pete played with the revolver before he turned and held it out toward Steven. "Here, check it out." Pete said, his hand holding the gun out for his friend. Steven gulped.. he knew he shouldn't but his curiosity slowly got the better of him, especially with his friend nudging it toward him to hurry up and take it. He slowly lifted his hand toward it, his fingers feeling the cold metal of the barrel as his eyes began to light up. Steven slowly moved the revolver from his friend's hand to his own. His palm wrapping around the grip snugly as he couldn't help but smile a little. Pete only smiled seeing his friend give in and have fun. Steven was soon doing as his friend was, feeling cool holding a gun, something that is forbidden for children to touch, let alone play with. Pete was now searching through the dead mans pockets, something Steven wouldn't have approved of but he was busy himself. Pete looked over at his friend as he pretended to shoot invisible bad guys, much like they always did when they played cops and robbers. "PEW... PEW... PEW PEW PEW" Steven muttered as he played by himself with the revolver. Pete couldn't help but start laughing at his friend. "Did you just say Pew Pew?!" Pete snickered as Steven lowered his hand holding the gun. His face showing embarrassment at his friends mocking tone. "Shut up." Steven muttered as he came next to Pete once again, handing the revolver off to him once more. Steven asked once more if they could get out of there already as Pete twirled the gun in his hand, playing again. Suddenly Steven heard something. His head snapped around to what sounded like more branches breaking as he panicked again and tossed the revolver at his friend. He was right, in the distance he could see two men making their way towards them. His heart began pounding in his chest as he tried to get his friends attention. Feeling panic overflow him, unable to speak as he tugged violently at his friends coat. Steven slumps to the floor, pulling his friend halfway with him as his eyes are locked on the men closing in on them. He notices the men spot them suddenly. "HEY!" One of the men shouts as they close in on Steven and Pete. Scary looking men, dressed in full blown suits and coats. Steven can't move as Pete turns and realizes what's happening. The two men move to attempt to corner off the two kids, now only feet in front of them. Pete's face has changed from that of a kid in a candy store to terror as his face goes paler than Steven could have imagined. Steven's head darting back and forth between his friend's face and those of the two men. Knowing this is very bad. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU KIDS DOING OUT HERE?!" One of the men shouts, startling the kids. Pete's hand behind him, hiding the revolver he just obtained from the dead guy by the tree. The first smart move Steven's friend had made since this started. The men didn't notice as they closed in closer. Steven stammered to try to talk but nothing came out. Suddenly as the men lunged toward the boys Pete lifted his hand and there was a flash accompanied by an extremely loud bang. Steven bolted up scared out of his mind, realizing that his friend had just fired the gun. Sure enough as Steven turned he saw his friend Pete, hand outstretched, revolver in his grasp.. the barrel still smoking. Both kids faces in shock as Pete's hand trembled. Steven turned to look at the men and saw one laying on the ground, groaning and squirming. The other lifted his hands and stepped back, clearly startled as they never expected Pete to have the gun they left behind. "Easy there kid.. don't do nothing stupid!" The standing man said menacingly to Pete as he held the gun outright. Stevens face locked in fear as Pete glanced at his terrified friend. The man seeing his opportunity quickly lunges toward the kids. Steven shouts as Pete turns his arm toward the man and suddenly there's another flash and bang. This time Steven is close enough for his ears to ring so loud he can hear nothing as he drops to the ground, covering his face. "STEVEN! STEVEN COME ON!" A muffled voice echoed through Steven's ringing ears. His head cowering into the ground. The voice slowly becoming clearer, his friend Pete shouting at him.. Slowly the voice changes. "COME ON, GET THE FUCK UP STEVEN!" Suddenly the voice is that of a grown man. Steven's eyes open and he finds himself being woken up. Sitting in his stool at a quiet bar. A half empty glass before him as he focuses, realizing he must have dozed off and was dreaming of childhood memories. He turns his head toward the voice to see his friend Pete. All grown up as well. An annoyed look on his face. "Come on damn it! We have to get going!" His friend Pete shouts from the other end of the bar by the front door. The bartender cleaning his glasses just chuckles and mutters something. "So where we going? What's this job you got lined up for us?" Steven asked as he slumped into his seat, watching the cars go by as Pete starts driving. "I got connected with some important people and we're supposed to meet them to help out with something. I don't know the details, but this is our way in man. Hey, open the glove box and take that thing out." Pete explains as he points toward the glove box with one hand, the other staying on the wheel. Steven reaches and opens the glove box and see's a fancy 1911 pistol. His eyes widen, not having seen a gun since that once time when they were kids. His nerves start getting to him as he wonders what his troublesome friend has gotten him into this time. "Go ahead, grab it. Just in case, but you probably won't even need it. Just this time don't go all Pew Pew on me okay? Just relax, we'll be there soon." Pete chuckles a little laugh at the expense of his friend as he drives on. Steven hesitantly reaches and takes the cold pistol and slips it into his front coat pocket and begins to worry as he laughs off his best friends teasing. His mind racing, wondering where they're going, who they're going to meet.. and what trouble he's going to end up in this time.. |

While waiting by the warehouse for the meet I light up a cigarette waiting for Steve and Pete to show up. I was called to watch over the meet and wasn't sure why? Well got that out of my system, while I see the car pull up at the designated spot |

I pull up in the car, I was told this meeting was not to missed, Steven and Pete both great guys, always has great jobs for everyone. I see someone waiting there smoking a cigarette not able to see his face. I open the door and begin to step out. I walk over to the man who has his back turned towards me. "Been here long?" I softly spoke. "Could I possibly get a light off you?, I seemed to have replaced mine." I giggle. While standing there waiting for the man to reply as we wait by the warehouse. the wind begins to pick up blowing my coat and hair all over the place. Thinking to myself what is taking them so long.. |

Mike sat watching the warehouse from a rooftop one hundred yards away, through the iron sites of an M1 Garand. If there were any altercations during the meeting. He would make sure they were resolved, quickly. He had heard from the Boss that he should be here and he thought, if he was gonna be here he was gonna protect his family. A car rolled into sight and he tracked it as it approached the warehouse. |

as had been arranged she walks down the streets slowly in huge heels and a tiny dress, smoking and making sure all the right things move in all the right places......she hears the whistles and sees the longing looks and works it even more. The guys knew exactly what to do, as eye candy tonight her job was the easy one and was keen to see and hear what the guys could do. She owns the looks, winks to a few and keeps the attention very much on her, giving them the space they need....hopefully just enough time to do this thing..... |

AurelianoBuendia was supposed to stay out of the streets tonight. And he knew why. As he put on his long colonel's coat, his memories went back to the day that his friend was shot by that small kid in the woods, many years ago. He made a silly superstitious motion, he always made to let his late friend know he wasn't forgotten and went to the warehouse. PEW PEW! Hearing these guys talk, he instantly knew it was them. So he had to plan today's pew-pew action. And he had to make sure this time it ended well |

Steven dozes off during the long ride his friend Pete has taken him on, his mind goes back to that childhood memory that changed his life so long ago. He's standing there again, in the woods with Pete holding a gun, having just shot one man as the other suddenly jumps toward the boys. Pete had fired again, making the attacker reel back and stumble. Steven knew things were going horribly wrong very fast so he quickly grabbed Pete by his jacket and took off running, pulling him along as Pete stuffed his new revolver into his coat pocket, the barrel still smoking. "COME ON! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!" Steven shouted at Pete as they both broke into a full sprint, dodging trees and hurdling over down logs and rocks and debris. In the distance the boys could hear the sound of the man groaning, wondering if he was going to die, but wondering more importantly now.. what they were going to do. They continued to run with all their might, the cold air filling their lungs making them both cough and wheeze as they reached the edge of the forest once again. Standing on the sidewalk now, hunched over as they both attempted to catch their breath. The birds still flying by over head, startled from the two loud shots they had just heard. Steven looked up at Pete, who was still smiling, and this scared Steven. "Do.. do you think he's... dead?" Steven managed to get out, his hot breath mixing with the cold creating a white fog of breath in front of him. Pete's look didn't change as he simply shrugged and stood up straight. Steven stretched, looking back towards the woods to make sure the man didn't get up and follow them. "What do we do now?" Steven asked his friend nervously. Sticking his hands back into his pockets to keep them warm. Completely unaware his friend Pete had kept the gun. Steven was hoping he would have dropped it when he grabbed him. "Nothing, we pretend like nothing happened. We don't talk to nobody about this, you got it?" Pete said, sounding almost like a threat at the end but Steven didn't think about that much, he'd known Pete his whole life, since they were both 4 years old. Steven was concerned now though, he'd never seen this side of his friend before. Steven did the only thing he could think of.. he simply nodded to Pete. "Let's get out of here, we'll go home, get some sleep and remember.. don't tell anyone." Both boys parted ways and headed home. They had spent more time in the woods then they had thought. It was getting dark already as Steven walked along the sidewalk alone toward his home. His mind racing with what if's. He got home and tried his best to act normal, he didn't want his parents to know what had happened today. Time came for him to go to sleep, so he retreated to his bedroom to get some sleep. He needed it after today, that's for sure. Eventually he dozed off to sleep and soon he was awakened to his mothers voice hollering at him to come down for breakfast. "STEVEN!? Hurry up and come down for breakfast!" His mother's voice shouted through the closed bedroom door. Steven slowly slumped out of bed and stood upright. Tired for some reason, but he simply chalked it up to the previous days actions. He yawned and stretched and stepped toward his window that overlooked the street. The sun shining through the curtain as he looked over and saw how late he had slept in. It was almost noon. He reached out and opened the curtains to see the beautiful October sky. He so loved the weather this time of year, it was always so relaxing for him. Suddenly as he opened the curtains his eyes caught something. Someone standing across the street on the sidewalk. His eyes, still blurry from just waking up tried to focus on what he was looking at. He rubbed his palms against his eyes in an attempt to get them to focus. That's when he sees what or who it is. His jaw drops and his eyes bug out as he goes pale. Standing across the street looking back at him through the window is the man his friend Pete had shot. Steven's heart sank and he panicked. He blinked, his mouth stammering with nothing but air escaping. This couldn't be he thought so he rubbed his eyes again. Taking a second look the man was gone. Steven was utterly confused and assumed he was just imagining things. He started to calm a little when he heard his mother scream again. "STEVEN! STEVEN WAKE UP!" She screamed at him from the bottom of the stairs and through the door. She yelled a second time only it was changing. "STEVEN! STEVEN WAKE UP! Damn your always dozing off and shit! I told you to stay focused, we got a good job tonight! I met one of these guys and he said they needed help with something, some extra muscle. This is our chance to get in Steven!" His friend Pete explained as Steven just listened. The car bumped along the road as he looked out the window to his right. It was dark and quiet, he had no idea where they were. Suddenly the thicket of trees stops and Steven spots an old warehouse with some smaller buildings around it. Steven recognized this place as the old abandoned soap factory on the edge of town. It was another place his parents had always warned him to stay away from. Steven felt the knot in his throat grow as Pete drove the car straight toward the warehouse. Ahead Steven could see a couple other cars out front as well. Even some people standing outside the doors in the dimly lit, cold chilly evening. "What did you get me into this time, Pete?" Steven mumbled to himself as they got closer and closer. He tried to swallow that knot in his throat but it wouldn't budge. Something in his gut was giving him a bad feeling about this. But it was too late to back out now. Pete stopped the car near one of the doors to the warehouse where a man and a woman stood outside. His mind racing again, wondering what might or could happen. Knowing he could nothing but hope for the best as Pete exited the vehicle and Steven did the same. He followed his friend standing behind him as they slowly approached the people by the door. "Hey guys, My name's Pete.. I spoke on the phone to... " Steven closed his eyes for a second, not hearing his friend finish his sentence to the strangers, his mind flashing something scary before his eyelids. His hands in his coat pocket as the pistol in his front pocket bounced off his chest. He took a deep breath and waited for whatever came next. |

(He could see them now, whoever it was the family had decided to meet. In the glow of the lights he could just barely make out the shapes. Two large, blocky figures walking towards Woltrazz and Jezebel-. From the silhouettes he could tell they were both men, but not much else.) "Step towards the light" he whispered. The snow had covered him in a thin layer and he struggled to keep himself from shivering. He shifted slightly and then one of the new arrivals started talking, the words carried across the open space. "I spoke on the phone to..." The rest was carried off by the wind. Mike caught a profile of the speaker who had his hands out and was gesturing. The other stranger had his hands in his coat and stood hunched over against the wind. He trained the gun on the one with hands hidden and watched for any movement. The speaker moved fully into the light and closer to Woltrazz. |

"hey guys, My name's Pete.. I spoke on the phone to..." This is what one of the guys had started to say as they had stepped out of the car. It was also at this point i felt the atmosphere change. I wasn't sure if everyone had felt it, but i sure had. My heart started to quicken, my hands become clammy. I tried to control my breathing bringing it back under control, wiped the sweat form my hands on my jacket. I couldn't afford to have slippery hands for the situation i felt was coming. This meeting had just got serious...........
The day had started very much differently. I had left the house with a spring in my step. Home life was good, the cash was rolling in and my standing within the family was on the rise. The previous day i'd been invited (Although not sure invited was the correct word) along to an important job. I'd done other jobs of course, with all different individuals within the family but this was going to be different. Practicality all the family was going to be in attendance. I entered the H.Q, it was packed, i greeted everyone as i passed them on my way to let the boss know i was here. As i got to the bosses Right hand Man was when i sensed something was amiss. The H.Q had it's usual lively fun atmosphere but AurelianoBuendia seemed.... different somehow more, intense more serious. AurelianoBuendia was my sponsor, so i had shadowed him for a long time on a number of jobs, from drug deals to torching some rival business. Therefore i felt i had a good idea of how he operated. Normally there was a jovial side to him, no matter how big or how serious the job was, he always had time for a joke or a prank. Not today though, not this job...... |

AurelianoBuendia is happy his associate Torak drives him to the old warehouse today. Tellurium .. Aureliano added at the moment one of the two guys stepped up to Woltrazz. It was Tellurium herself who has called you. Letting his eyes slide away from Steven. I believe we have some old business to discuss first. We only have to wait for Lowe now, he seems to be late though, he is supposed to have opened up the warehouse for this meet to.. Looking into Pete's eyes, he suddenly recognizes that crazy look from when he was shot so many years ago, a look he never forgot, he looks at Mike to help him finish his sentence as he gets to angry to speak further.. |

Lowe throws the car around the last bend trying to make up the little time he can. He Notices everyone standin waiting in the cold for him to arrive and open up the warehouse. He Pull's up and gets out the in a car in a rush forgetting hes gun on the passanger seat. "Your all a little early." he utters into the crowd while nerviously looking toward AurelianoBuendia. He pulls up hes collar to shield himself from the piercing cold. Lowe dips hes and into he's pockets a panicked look is on hes face, 'where are the keys' he thinks to himself. Until he hears a slight jingle in hes inner jacket pocket. Lowe finally opens the lock, pushes open the door open and ushers everone inside to the damp cold warehouse full of crates. Lowe Puts out hes hand to shake for hes colleges most just look at him and nod, hands tucked in tight to keep warm. As pete and Steven walk in Lowe looks to check if he recognises either of them, he thinks he does but cant put hes finger on why. Lowe then turns to check no one else is around and closes the door firmly behind him. |

Steven follows Pete inside the warehouse as he get a little nervous. So many faces, and some of them looked downright scary. His head snaps back as he hears the guy by the door shutting it, making a loud clank as metal hits metal. Steven swallows hard again as he follows Pete who in turn follows the group into an open area with a table in the middle. He can feel the tension in the air rising as everyone gathers around. He notices one of the men staring a little harder than normal at him and his friend Pete. He looks familiar to Steven but he can't place from where. Pete doesn't even care to notice as he smirks and stands against the table, looking down at the papers and maps laid out for some big heist. Steven can see the stranger clenching his teeth as he glares at them. Voices start up as people talk to each other, some about business and others just greeting each other as friends.. some just staring at the two new kids in the room. Steven's mind starts to drift as he keeps glancing at the obviously angry man, not wanting to stare and make him angrier, but he can't help but feel he's seen this man before, albeit a much much younger version of him. The voices in the room slowly grow fainter as he starts to notice features about the angering man that bring him back to that fateful day in the forest so many years ago. Steven looks down at the ground as his mind wanders, slowly putting the needed details back into his fresh memory to help him place this stranger across the table from them. Suddenly he realizes it. His head snaps back up to meet the man's eyes. So much hate in them as Steven gulps and slowly tugs on his friends coat. He leans in closer to whisper in his friends ear. "Pete, that guy..." Steven whispers into Pete's ear. "Isn't that the guy.. remember?!" Stevens voice starts breaking and Pete can hear the fear in his friends voice as he looks at the man to see why Steven's so scared. Quickly Pete's face grows pale as the stranger across the table starts to speak, interrupting the others talking. "What's the matter boys? You look like you've seen.... a ghost." The stranger says between his clenched teeth, hate seething from his eyes as he stares down Pete and Steven. Slowly the rest of the people in the room start to piece together whats happening and suddenly everyone is quiet, watching intently as the stranger keeps talking. "What? You boys don't recognize me do you?" He says menacingly, looking straight at Pete. "Your friend here seems to remember me.. Look a little closer." He says, glancing over at Steven, who at this point is already starting to tremble as he looks around at the strangers friends slowly reaching into their coats. His friend Pete, still trying to figure out why Steven is so scared as he tries to connect the stranger to his memories. "Maybe this will jog your memory.." The stranger says as he starts to unbutton his coat and shirt, pulling his shirt open to show the boys a scar on his chest. Steven's jaw drops as his eyes dart back and forth between the man's scar and his pistol in the mans holster under his coat. The man speaks again, this time his voice sounding angrier than before. Pete slowly starts to put two and two together as he hears the stranger speak. "You know how I got this?" He starts, leaning over the table as he glares into both the kids eyes, watching as they start to cower. "It was LONG time ago, many years ago.. In a small forest on the edge of a small neighborhood. My friend and I came across these two kids meddling in the woods where they didn't belong..." The stranger goes on with his story, but Pete and Steven quickly figured it out as Steven tugged on his friends coat and whispered. "Pete, we need to get out of here.. now." Pete slowly nods, feeling his friend pull on his coat nervously. Before he can even speak though the stranger slams his fist down on the table and speaks again, his voice louder and angrier. The boys almost jump in their spots as the stranger almost shouts. His friends look at each other, realizing what's about to happen, their hands in their coats. Steven knew things were about to go south really fast. "Those two stupid kids.. KILLED MY FRIEND!" He shouts as his friends pull their guns from their coats. Pete and Steven look around them and panic as fear fills them both. Guns pointed at them from the hands of this mans friends. Steven tries to pull his friends coat to get him moving but instead Pete reaches into his coat and quickly pulls out his revolver, the same one used to shoot this man so many years ago. The same one that killed this mans friend. Steven shouts at Pete but it doesn't stop him. Somehow Pete gets off the first shot, completely missing the man across from the table. The bullet whizzing right by his head as it hits another of his friends behind him. Pete stands, fear in his eyes, his outstretched hand shaking as the gun trembles in his grip. Only getting one shot off he stands there almost frozen. The man smirks, not surprised Pete had missed as he hears the groan come from behind him. He turns and see's his friend hit in the chest from Pete's gun. "MIKE?! MIKE! THEY HIT MIKE! KILL THEM!" The man shouts at his friends as he runs over to his downed friend, blood pooling around his jerking body. The man kneeling beside him as his friends open fire on the two kids. Steven tries to pull his friend to safety as the bullets start to fly, but he's unable to as he jumps out of the way and ducks behind some crates. Watching as his friend starts shooting back. Steven watches as his friend gets hit over and over again. Blood spraying from every hit to his chest as he watches his friend fall back, his hand still pulling the trigger to the revolver as he fires up at the ceiling of the old warehouse, bullets ripping through the thin metal roof. Steven watches as his best friend falls back crashing through some crates. He knows he can't go out to help him lest he be hit as well. Bullets still flying from the angry mans friends as they fire at Pete more, some hitting the crates Steven is hiding behind. He can hear the men shouting and moving around the warehouse to circle around him. He knew he had to think fast, but it wasn't easy with fear and panic flooding his body. His heart racing as he could hear the men talking and shifting positions to get the drop on him. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled the gun Pete had given to him in the car on the way here. His hand trembling, the gun shaking as he tries to peek over one of the crates. He ducks back quickly as a bullet hits next to his face. Sweat dripping now from his forehead, despite it being incredibly cold, even inside the warehouse. Steven had to do something, and it had to be fast or he was going to end up like his friend over there. He turned to look at his friend Pete. He wasn't moving and he could see the blood pooling out from under his body. Steven knew his friend was dead, how could he survive being hit so many times. He had to move, and he had to move now. He held the gun close as he took a deep breath, preparing to make his break for safety. He lifted his gun over the crates and popped off a few rounds. Hearing the men scramble for cover he took his chance. He hopped up to his feet and made a beeline for the door he came through, blindly firing behind him as he ran, hoping it would keep the men in cover. His shoes thudded across the concrete floor as he sprinted for the exit. Bullets quickly slam into the metal door before him, causing him to duck down behind some more crates. At least he was closer to the exit, but he could hear the men closing in. His way out through the door was compromised. He had to find another way out and fast or he was going to end up like Pete. Steven saw a window to his left and knew there was no other option. He stood up and shots rang out again as the men closed in on him. He quickly ran to the window and dived through. Glass shattering and flying out into the cold dark night. He landed on his feet but fell forward, tumbling in the snow. The men quickly ran to the windows and started firing out at Steven as he stood up and ran for his life toward the edge of the woods that bordered the warehouse property. He knew he only had one chance to lose these killers so he ran with all his might, as fast as his legs could carry him toward the trees. He glanced back as he ran, and he could see the man at the window with his men beside him shooting down at him. Bullets hitting the snow as they missed. He could hear the man scream as he scurried closer and closer to the woods. "KILL HIM! GET DOWN THERE AND FIND THAT SON OF A BITCH! I WANT HIM DEAD!!" The man shouted at his partners as they hustled out of the warehouse, giving chase. Steven sprinted with all his force and energy as his feet kicked up snow and dirt. He reached the treeline and ducked into the woods. Still running, hopping over downed logs and rocks trying not to fall, knowing that would give the men time to catch up. His breathing was fast and frantic and he could see how the cold made his breath a dense fog in front of his face as he ran. He tugged his coat closer around him in an attempt to fend off the cold, his pistol still in his grip as he made his way deeper into the woods. He could hear the men coming after him still, their voices trailing off in the cold. He could hear them trying to figure out where he went. Steven decided that his best bet would be to hide out for a bit. He knew the cold would limit their ability to continue the search for him. He kept moving until he found a nice little spot where he could hide. Hidden against a mound of dirt with shrubbery covering him he hunched down and pulled the coat closer around him, trying to keep warm as well as quiet. His body slowly starting to shiver and not from the fear this time. The cold was getting to him, but he knew it would also be getting to the men. He stayed quiet and still as he heard the men come to the ledge above him. He remained completely still as the men stood and looked around. Talking to each other. "You seem him anywhere? How about over there?" "I don't see anything.. and it's fucking freezing out here!" "Can't we just go back.. I mean, it's freezing out here, he won't make it through the night." "Alright, you're probably right, lets go.. I need a hot coffee." Steven listened as the men talked.. hearing them start to walk away, their footsteps growing fainter as they left. He knew he was incredibly lucky he wasn't found. He decided to wait for a bit before attempting to sneak out and continue his way out of the forest. After what felt like forever, Steven slowly crept out. He listened but heard only the sound of the wind blowing, the faint murmur of men talking off in the distance. Steven stood up and slowly headed the same way he was heading before he stopped. Away from the men that killed his friend. His mind kept racing back to seeing Pete get shots repeatedly before his eyes. He fought the cold as best he could as he walked through the cold damp woods. Worrying that maybe he was still being followed, he kept looking back.. but he was alone. After what seemed like hours Steven finally saw street lights ahead. He slowly moved out from the treeline and saw a road before him. He was still scared, knowing that the men could have traveled around to this side to cut him off. He ducked down as he watched a car approaching.. Steven waited as the watched the car leave his range of vision then stepped out onto the road. Looking both ways, he decided it didn't matter where either road took him, as long as it was far away from here. He walked along the dark desolate road, his shoes tapping along the pavement as he made his way. His mind racing from everything that just happened. How was he going to explain to Pete's mother what happened. How was he going to continue. He knew the man and his goons would be looking for him still. He knew that that man back there would not stop until he had his cold dead body before him. Steven was terrified of the future now. He knew that from this moment on he would be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. He knew that some day, someone, somewhere.. would find him. He just didn't know when or where. Steven kept walking and disappeared into the night, not knowing what the future held in store for him.. Knowing his life would never be the same again..... |
