Fist parked in a lot next to an old abandoned building in Pasadena, CA. By the looks of the clouds coming in he thought it might rain soon. However, Fist enjoyed the rain so this made him that much happier on a day like today. He walked to the front of the old building and as he looked up at the old sign hanging above the door some dust got in his eyes and started tearing up.
He pulls a key out of his pocket to unlock the door but still couldn’t see that well. He rubbed his eyes and after a few seconds he finally opens the door and walks in. The big wooden door creaked slowly before hitting the door stop causing more dust to fall behind him.
“Jesus, I knew this place was cheap but, wow.” Fist said in disbelief. "I’m going to need a cleaning crew to clean all this dust up and...is that blood on the wall? Jesus”, Fist repeated. “And who left all this boxing equipment in here? What the hell am I going to do with 53 punching bags that are infested with mice?” He assumed the place used to be a boxing gym.
The place brought memories back of when he was a child. His father used to take him to local boxing events. Little did I know that what my father was actually doing was taking me to boxing events to bet illegally on it because he couldn’t find a sitter that night. Now that Fist thought about it what his father said to him that night had always stuck with him.
“Son, you win some and you lose some. If you never play you’ll never win. Take a gamble sometimes and maybe if you're luck and you win...You could change your whole world, with just a few bets.”
He hung a painting on the wall of a young lady. Fist adored his mother and since her passing at age 17 he really didn’t know what to do with himself at that time. It wasn’t until he met a lady that went by the name of Olympia- did he actually start doing something meaningful with his life, like robbing old ladies and post offices. She was always looking out for him.
“You have to start somewhere, if you want to get anywhere.” She would always tell him and she was right. You do have to start somewhere. He stuck by her for years working side by side. Even more so than his father, she was who he idolized. Yet he was still shocked when she told him she wanted him to help by branching out and build Pasadena to thrive again. It wasn’t much but it was a start. “Hopefully”, he thought as he check out a few rooms, it was going to be a start to a great beginning.
Fist followed his dusty foot prints back to the door locking it behind him. Making sure he didn’t look up this time. He walked out to the street and turned around to see the sign. The old wood of the sign made the building look even more historic.
“The name isn’t that bad actually. I think I’ll keep it and turn this place into my own wonderful boxing gym.” Of course Fist is using it as half a business front and half a headquarters for his own crime organization.
Fist went back to his car and pulled out of the parking lot and drove past the sign on the building reading it again before speeding off into the jungles of LA.
It read,
‘HOUSE OF PAIN’. |

When Fist-O-Pain arrived back at The Sanctuary Headquarters, after checking out his new building he had purchased, she greeted him out front with a bottle of Whiskey. She handed the bottle to him, then turned around to walk inside her HQ. She said, "I want to help you celebrate this a bit. This is a huge milestone for you, and this will greatly benefit Pasadena. I have no doubts in you that you will do so well! And I'm so proud of you, and so thankful for everything you've done." When they reached the commonroom of her headquarters, she approached the bar, grabbing two shot glasses from a cabinet and placing them on the counter. She watched as Fist-O poured Whiskey in each little glass, then she grabbed one. She touched her shot glass to his and said, "This is for you, and for every little thing you have done for me since joining me and becoming my Right Hand Man. I couldn't have picked anyone better! And, no worries.. Your bodyguard there already knows he's the one driving you back to your building later!" They downed their shots, and Fist-O poured them each one more. She picked up the glass, clinked it against his, downed it and set her glass on the counter. She hugged him and said, "Good luck out there. I know you won't need the luck but.. Just in case. You can never have too much! You'll be missed around here you know.." She turned so he wouldn't see her tearing up, then wiped her eyes before turning back to him. "Now go, you. Before I get emotional.." She laughed a bit, wiping her eyes again as he turned to exit the commonroom and grab his things. |

I walked into the HQ, Olympia looked teary eyed, the Don teary eyed? Something must be up. Then I remembered, Fist-O-Pain was setting up a family of his own, how I had forgotten when he himself had asked me to come and join him in his "House Of Pain" I would never know. The whiskey was most likely the cause of that, maybe it was my past the blows to the head whatever it was fuck it. I walked into the room Fist-O-Pain had entered, he was packing up his things getting ready to head to his HQ, it was going to be sad leaving Olympia- but we we're growing the district and making LA a greater and even stronger place doing so. Things were falling into place and soon the name of Pasadena would be known nationwide. I walked up to Fist and put my hand on his shoulder, he turned around and I spoke, "Congratulations brother, you made it and you and me both will make sure House Of Pain thrives like no other. You had a vision and you made it a reality, I admire you and the ambition in your heart. The future of LA is all that's on my mind and I know same for you. Let's kick things into high gear watch all of our dreams come true". I pulled a flask out of my jacket with two shots glasses, "I'm sure you took a few with Olympia- but here's to House Of Pain" I set the glasses on the table next to where Pain had his things packed, splash splash and they were both filled. "Cheers". |
