"Body count, 10. Active gun control. Stray shoe prints and-" "Man convicted for attempted burglary-" "Stock market crash said to be the worst downfall of American history-" "A new era has begun as we enter a nation of-" "Misery is what the people feel since the economic crisis has starte-" "People turning away from the governme-" cuties nostrils flare and she quickly shuts off the radio in frustration. Her eyes shut tight, trying to bottle up the pain she was holding. People were just on such a high for so long, and from that - a chaos started. The American dream that everyone hoped for was crashing down.. *** The sun still rises each morning... and the moon still comes up at night. cutie thought that it was probably the only thing that stayed the same since the hardships of The Great Depression. She was in a state of depression, reflecting the struggles of many people. The reality of it all was finally getting to cuties head. There was always the fear that a possible solution would take a turn in the end. cutie started to notice that all of a sudden the jazz music she used to hear as she walked along the streets were gone. The streets were empty, lifeless... It was definitely no secret. Roosevelt was running out of things to say. The Families will soon start making themselves known... But you know what the newspapers would say then? FUGITIVES WANTED. |

It was time to get to work. cutie would go back to the headquarters for her night shifts. She grabbed her coat then headed out of her small apartment. The drive was long and quiet. cutie saw her friend at the front gates. "Good evening, sir. Are you well?" cutie asked in a polite manner. The man scoffed. "Better than most." There was amusement and a slight sadness in his tone. cutie felt the same way and she frowned. "I know... I know..." cutie gave the man a gentle pat on his shoulder, and she walked ahead. The grandeur of the building still amazed her to this day. The Godfather was seated in his leather chair, and cutie walks in after knocking. "Ah, young one..." She sat in the chair across from and sighed. "Not anymore, pa." The Godfather chuckled. "Where have the times gone..." The Godfather suddenly went quiet. cutie could sense some bad news coming ahead - but she wasn't quite sure of that yet. cutie spoke. "What are we going to do pa? Prices are rapidly increasing, people debts are piling up and the banks in New York are experiencing a financial meltdown..." She tried to hide the panic in her voice. The American public were calling out for heroes. "Do we not deliver the goods?" cutie smirked. The Godfather sat in silence. He looked up, his dark hooded eyes that made cutie shudder with fear... and urge. |

It all changed after that moment. Change as in renovations and correcting. cutie sits in the warehouse with The Godfather, aware of what was to come. She witnessed her close friend being dragged in here, leaving her family behind. cutie had been with that close friend for many years, and she couldn't believe what was happening to her. But it wasn't as if cutie wasn't expecting it. Death is inevitable. Especially in this world. The Godfather looks at him in the eyes. cuties friend couldn't look up. "You see what you have done?" The Godfather says to him. "I-I'm sorry. The attorney wouldn't let me go if I didn't tell him any information about our works!" The friend replied. The Godfather shook his head in utter disappointment. "I suggest the next of your Sicilian kin who comes to approach us knows what the word loyalty means before coming in. May you rest in peace." The friend stayed silent. No one could ever imagine themselves in this same situation. People feared The Godfather. The boss of all bosses. The alpha and the omega. He was one of the first people to settle in the U.S from Sicily, and cutie was taken in. Things were changing. And they were changing fast. People were being corrected for their wrongs. The Godfather walked away with no words. That's what anger meant. That was the ultimate disappointment. When your pa walks away, no words left to say. When cutie had to take over, she would have to look them dead straight in the eye. She stands in front of her friend. Not letting the tears get to her. "You should've known what was coming. The Families are different in some way, but we all have the same strict code of conduct, Omerta. You let The Family down, brother." She slips out the cold gun from her thigh holster and points it towards her friends forehead. Her voice is like silk, making waves of ecstasy. "Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without police protection is both. It is cowardly to betray an offender to justice, even though his offenses be against yourself, as it is not to avenge an injury by violence. It is dastardly and contemptible in a wounded man to betray the name of his assailant, because if he recovers, he must naturally expect to take vengeance himself. A wounded man shall say to his assailant: If I live, I will kill you - If I die you are forgiven." WACK! cutie looks away, as spots of blood splash on the walls of the warehouse. |

She drops the gun. She kneels down, holding her friend under the neck. "Ti amo." cutie took his heart, when she pulled out that gun. She knew that. cutie walked away, feeling restless. The janitors came and deposited the body minutes later. This was the American dream now. The mafia was now a basic part of American life, deny it or not. The prohibition created more benefits for the lower class, but everyone got a piece of the puzzle. New jobs, more construction projects, profits from the production, consumption and sales from drugs. It was all coming together. But no one wanted to rush in. The Families made sure no one would rat other people out. cutie reached the headquarters, with a little bit more dignity in her veins. |
