MavisBeacon in Corktown Started by: KateLogan on Nov 16, '16 19:58

Kate sat in the chair behind her desk; she was spun around where she could look out and see the Detroit skyline rising up in the evening air. It had been a long journey for her in this city. She'd hated it at first, nearly flinching from all the grey, lifeless buildings that closed her in; they stood in stark contrast to the open skies and plains of her youth. But she'd grown to love it. She'd found a home here. A family. Adventure. Purpose.

Her smile wasn't as fast and easy as it once was. Events of the past few months had left their impact on her: in the new caution that now reined in her once unbridled mind and mouth, as well as the small lines that had started to appear in the corner of her eyes. She rubbed her face for a moment, blinking as she reflected on how much had changed. But there was one person who'd been with her from the very beginning. They'd been tossed together by fate and bound in blood. Kate smiled as she heard his he knock at the door.

"Come in, Mavis."

Mavis Beacon entered the room and took the chair across from Kate. She slid her own chair to the side so they could both look out at the city.

"We started out together, Mavis, in what seems like another lifetime. A man we both respected once said that we ran parallel to each other, pushing to help build Detroit as young associates. Recently, we've run parallel as we've worked to bring some measure of order and organization to our city as we push forward towards a brighter future. You're a capable man, Mavis- and I consider you a brother.

For all these reasons, I'd like you to set up a crew in Corktown. Our world needs this right now, as we work to rebuild. What do you say?"

John was sitting in his office reading through the local notices for the day when he came across one stating that MavisBeacon had been given the nod to start his own crew. Grabbing a pen and paper he wrote a quick note and called up a courier to deliver it.

Congratulations on this wonderful day as you start your own crew. I am sure that you will do our city proud and bring honor to yourself and your crew. I have not had the pleasure of knowing you personally, however, I know that the trust placed in you to join the leadership of our great city is not lightly given so I am sure that it is well earned. Best of luck to you in all that you do.

Upon taking his seat in front of Kate, Mavis saw a glimpse of Kate when they were still young associates, trying to impress the criminal underworld of Detroit. The last couple of times Mavis had to meet Kate in her office, it always was some sort of problem or situation that needed addressing. But her facial expression this time, this momentary slip of joyous recollection, let him know it was going to be different this time.

"Bos...er... Kate. Since those early days, where we were trying to figure out our place in Detroit, we both always knew that we could count on each other for the betterment of Detroit. I am thankful that you would consider me. I know that all the Great Cities in this thing of ours are currently working hard to rebuild the organization, and I will ensure to do my part to get up and operational as quickly as I can. I have no doubt with you at the helm, Detroit will soon have a striving business district, lining all of our pockets with wealth."

He briefly pauses...

"Obviously, I say, yes, thank you. I say, I'll have the address of an office based out of Corktown for ya by this evening. I will see you there at your earliest convenience. Need you to help me figure out how I'm going to decorate it." - Mavis grinned.

After making multiple phone calls, Mavis was finally standing outside of 1471 Michigan Ave, the staple of the small commercial neighborhood in Corktown. The streets were paved with red brick, similar and matching to the bricks used for most of the buildings. A 2-story building with multiple store-front like entrances paved the front. Across all 4 entrances was a sign that stretched nearly across the entire width of the building. Above each entrance was a giant number. 1. 4. 7. 1

"You think whoever previously owned this place really liked it's address, eh?" Mikhail asked.

"Shit, at least we'll never have issues with a cab not being able to find it?" Mavis responded, admiring the sign.
"We could set up a few different fronts. Maybe even get another typing school to help bring in some of the kids in the area. This is good Mikhail, this is really good."

"No really, What about the address being blasted across the top?" - Bunny asked, looking as stylish as ever.

"Sorry Bunny, I know that it isn't up to your standards, but... the sign stays. I guess we're the 1471 Gang." Mavis smiled to himself, as he unlocked the first entrance and made his way into his new headquarters.

HooLZ knocks on the door of Mavis's office, once he heard someone saying Enter he walked in.

He walks towards Mavis desk and tips his hat.

Mikhail loved the new headquarters... The address was easy to find, the building even was large, tons of floor space. He knew with due time, a solid front would be in place for their business. Typing classes? Sure. But there were all types of ideas. He couldn't be more happier for his friend. Someone who was with the Motor City since the beginning, get this wonderful opportunity.

"Congratulations my dear comrade. Boss Kate, this may be a dark day due to losing one of your most loyal members, but this is the best person for the expansion of Detroit. As the country continues to rebuild, I know Mavis will prove to do the city proud.

Congrats again my comrade!"

Thomas bowed his head in respect to Mavis, and shook the man's hand. "Yeh do right by me people, hi?"

He chuckled and disappeared into the crowd.

after a busy afternoon of standing on the corner passing out flyers for MavisBeacon Typing, he paused to celebrate the grand new he had recently heard.

From a typing teacher for a mob boss, you've certainly done well for yourself. We could almost refer to this as a true rags to riches story, but that would be too cliche. So I offer well wishes, and a kind thanks for being a friend and the top sponsor in my path to fight glory!

Jennie skipped up to MavisBeacon and gave the man a hug. "Well Bacon, you have earned this. If Kate hadn't put it in her planner, I might have covertly considered doing it myself." she told her friend with a grin. She looked around just to make sure KateLogan hadn't heard her, and when she saw the woman look her way she tried to look contrite and said, "Kidding, kidding." before turning back to Mavis and whispering, "So not kidding."

"What bride was sexy," Pablo thought to himself as he strolled down the streets. He was attempted to walk a straight line, however due to the free booze at the wedding that was nearly impossible. Hearing a commotion down the block he headed that way to figure out what was going on. Escobar overheard there was a new syndicate that had formed in Corktown under the leadership of MeavisBeacon.

"Congrats senor Meavis!" he said as he shook the gangster's hand before saying "Best of luck!"

*Smiking among the crowd, Tammy applauded with the others. There were not many people she could say she felt genuine hope and good fortune for, however this was one of them.*

"Mista Beacon you've been a grand teacher ta me-self an' I'm sure others. I tink this new job will suit ye well."
