| Usage of the term MIA in the streets? | Started by: NickFury on Nov 27, '16 17:25 |

It is understandable to not be allowed to use the term 'MIA' in the streets as it appears on profiles and stuff like that. But I have had personal accounts where I have witnessed people be referred to as an 'MIA' (acronym for "missing in action". Though the term has military origins, it is also used to simply imply that a person hasn't been seen in some period of time.) on numerous occasions.
The term is also used in a Martin Scorsese film called GoodFellas 1990(which is, in my opinion, about as 'in character' as you can get) ---- https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/579021a3-6f68-4d2d-b9d9-cb64c5a4e2da
Just a suggestion, although I don't know for sure if mobsters used this terminology in back in the early 1920's. Thank you. |

If you are saying it in terms of somebody is Missing in Action I don't see an issue with it. If you are referring to accounts as MIAs, NPCs, etc then I don't think it is necessary when there are so many other terms that can be used in its place. |

Using the term MIA as in 'missing in action' is fine, it always has been. And no Goodfellas is not as in character as you can get, it's based in the 1970s I believe, which is 40ish years out of date. I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I saw it. Anyway, I'm guessing you wrote this suggestion because of your own thread being moved. You clearly weren't using MIA to represent the acronym which means Missing In Action. If you read each time you used MIA as Missing In Action it doesn't make sense. |

I stand corrected. I used it carelessly. |
