Are you a serious mafioso? Started by: WoonDa on Dec 11, '16 04:18

Everybody is different. Some have specialism talent, others are specialized in this, that, or the other domain in our world. Some have more or less humor sense. But it is not enough!!!... Why do we need to be so serious in our everyday life? It's the feeling I and me have, everybody is going in that way, from streets silence to own crew chat silence. I understand the seriousness of old and future GFs, but for new playaz it's not always cool.

So please tell us how you would like our things to evolve: in a deadly serious way, a seriously serious deadly way, or we just here to have some fun? To incite people to respond, I will say my opinion: "we should be fun all the time, even pardon some things that aren't cool, but never disrespect the other of our kind." With a common sense and without drugs, one should know where the red line is. For sure if you say or do nothing, it's cool too, nobody forces you to...

Hi WoonDa! I have heard your voice in the streets and elsewhere so nice to finally meet you properly.

I actually feel quite passionately about this topic so allow me to ramble if I may....I have heard and my ancestors sometimes experienced what you describe: silence in the HQ save for the occasional whispers of rogue and looking at watches and no connection across the city with collective chat either. I think really this has a huge impact on motivation and enthusiasm for people in general.

I disagree with you about the streets being quiet by the way - I think they are more vibrant and alive now than they have been for a long time and for the first time in a long time for the right reasons too - to debate and discuss and hear all voices no matter the need to check for rank first if the words are respectful. I am loving the streets right now.

We make it clear from our job advertising board that we like people here who engage - maybe are quirky - who add something and bring something to the table. We have worked hard in Philly to have fun - sometimes serious when needed - engaging chats and have our own little ways of making even the shyest of gangsters feel included and part of the chat. As a CL really aside from the coffee houses or a private meeting the HQ and city chats are a fantastic way to get to know people, these chat become the first places often gangsters get to practice how to talk and be so we actively encourage it. As part of the overall training here people chat - because they want to and they learn a lot from it, which in term develops skills in speaking in general. The mini jokey RP's across the city that draw people in for example build confidence and when you can do that in a relaxed way and with humour where appropriate it is a great tool for motivation, a happy crew who feel involved, learning to speak and also for me to get to know people and them to get to know me.

Essentially here aside from a big gun the first and most important thing we have that will keep us safe of fuck things up for us are our words and that starts at home in my view. Should people in responsible roles have fun in the HQ when chatting - if that is their personality then absolutely! I know I do - but equally when needed to have the skill to lead and be serious and have that respected and understood by all as and when is the trick I think. I doubt you would hear many or any from Philly saying that they hear silence.

I am genuinely interested though to hear others views on this - I am sure each city and even each crew is vastly different so am keen to hear! Thanks for raising it as a discussion!

But never ask questions or ask why one backed off their word or your dead.

Hi Don Tellurium!

Nice to meet you too and I feel honored by that.

Usually I am a shy person in the streets 'coz my language is very limited, and when I talk directly to people they know from the start what my stance is.

Paisono style if you see what I mean... Hard life guy, not the kind you will find in libraries studying hypocrisy. So I may say things that sound crude and rude but it doesn't mean war. Just my way of being and saying what I do feel. I like something I say it. I dislike something I say it. But I still keep the sense of privacy and scales and hierarchy. I am a very friendly person, and I pardon a lot of things, coz as a Christian I consider only our Lord able to judge afterlife. To translate it, it means you could be my best friend or my worst enemy. How you treat me I treat you and how i treat you I expect the same from you. I said that about me coz' I don't want people to interpret me as what others say about me.

Now, back to the topic. I am sure you manage your mafioso very well, or, by pure logic, you and them wouldn't be there if you did not. I like people feeling free to say what they need to say. Our leaders here in LV encourage our people to openly say what they want to say even if it's against their own ideas. It's to each self-respected mafioso to add some spice into it, and even more, if it's simple humor it's welcome. As far as I am concerned humor should be a requirement, in our world of stressful situations...

Kid, always ask questions if you need to. If you know the answers, don't pose the questions, just do your stuff.

To be honest WoonDa I don't get too caught up on the size of the words used in the streets or if people stumble over their words or even take a couple of goes at re-wording stuff to try and get what they want to say out there. What I think counts for much more than that is feeling the conviction of someone's words out there - they are not just saying something for saying something's sake - they feel passionately about it. That I think is what is making our streets at the moment so interesting and alive.

I also think educating people in how to robustly challenge there but still maintain respect is really paying off as I hear great debate out there but it is very very different from a world of old some of us recall or read in out ancestors journals.

Whilst this for example is the first official time we have met I kind of already feel I know you a little from your words in public - this is a positive thing. I enjoy hearing you speak you are always brutally honest and very clear - both those things I really admire!

Keep asking the tough questions like this, I like that too! :)

WoonDa mate we all know you're a big teddy bear :) lol

I was actually surprised to start chatting with you in HQ, as your profile URL is very different than how you are. Always lively, chatting, sharing, all the stuff that a crew chat should have to some degree in my opinion.

I remember first being here with Achilles. The crew chat wasn't pumping as I had hoped, and I made it a point to try get something more out of people. Not that it was a bad environment, more so some old school players, those that may have ticked over many a character, may just be at a point of 'chill' mode. And now I realise this, in hindsight, after being annoying with trying to get shit moving, that sometimes silence isn't a bad thing. It's just some are busy doing other things, on MR and outside of it.

The personalities that are outgoing will be outgoing, and those that aren't, or that are purposely just cruising along, will be that way too. Much like in any social setting, some are more out there, and others more reserved. I had to learn this, and now I just go with the flow and do me. Sometimes I'm in crew chat, and others I'm away writing or immersing myself deeper in my character. It just depends on the day and what else I have going on.

So I guess what I'm saying is, some may seem serious and others more humorous, yet it may not always be the case, as I found with you WoonDa. I was pleasantly surprised to know you aren't at all like your profile URL.

Tellurium I like your approach to leadership, maybe because it's how I also view things. I like that you're engaging and very much expressive, I'd like to be a fly on the wall in your corner of this world :)

Annnnnd to conclude, I believe a sense of humour is key to a happy life in general, and on MR. If you can't poke fun at yourself and life itself, then it'll be a bumpy fuckn ride. A sense of humour imo are like shock absorbers on a car, if you got them you're crushing, if not, you're going to be butt hurt more often than not :) And having played this game in the past without a sense of humour, I can say that taking this game too serious is a recipe for a shitty time. You can still be serious in character, but out of character I think being light hearted is necessary.

In my opinion there's always place for fun even though a lot of serious stuff is going on. I understand when people need some time to deal with bussiness, but once in global or H chat where those bussinesses shouldn't ever be stated anyway there's plenty of room for some screwing around. Personally I like to start a little twisted conversations or make fun of some ingame stuff going on or whatever, might not be everyone's cup of tea but those who join in always seem to go out with more joy than they had before. So just a quick tip, it's really helpfull if you wanna throw of the tension this game holds sometimes for a while ^^

Ofcourse some people will think "but you're a new guy you haven't seen shit" and they might be right. But as a new guy I also very much realise this is just a game and eventually dying one day is a nice way to give new players a chance to reach the top too. So things might be sad and dramatic at times but I see no reason to not just have fun playing the game and eventually joke about the things we've been through.

Wow ReznoV, you put a lot of serious stuff in a single reply:

a lot of serious stuff is going on

It merits a lot of different threads for each serious topic you evoked afterwards. Like having fun, what does it mean? You (in general terms) kill someone, you pee on him on IRC, you inactive as shit as a playa, afford yourself bgs with some real cash and a CL career based on events generations before, the other "new guy" is supposed to have fun in that? Ok, let's suppose so just for the fun part...

It's really helpful if you wanna throw of the tension this game holds sometimes for a while ^^

Do you think people leave just because of tensions? Tensions are a natural thing, adding artificial weight to one side of the rope is another thing. I like you or don't in our world doesn't mean much. Don't make a corrupted state of politics, do a politic world based on pure meritocracy.

Be it technical or diplomatic weight as well.

For the jokes, until there is misuse, I am always for.

Hmmm...(thinking out 4 times looood but not crazy) *typing italic* The situation was loco & caliente.

*Gargles his straight throat*

*Spits all the accumulated ideas during his virtual upbringing*

Finally says:

"You can fuck with us any time we auth you to. But, wait, with a regime change, auths need to be renewed and as such we might need to know who you fucked with recently"  That is the end of message from the outer-space that was heard in the streets. Beep Erase go to on further 1 2. If Sent-click. Boom. Party. It's all electronic nowadays with bzzzzb all jamming measures sold as a free option, just to have more customers....

People can or can't swear around? Let's try the OOC coz some other people said it has no role. Which I obviously disagree with. Are you afraid to go anywhere outside to speak out loud what you have to say without being treated like less than a salt palm coz you said a F-word like: "street" "post" "read anything but my lips"  "I delete then u suck if u dare... etc.... Disagree here in public, say what's on your mind, but please respect the existence of of other people. Keep in mind that what you do, say or write is for a community betterment. Not as an exhaust valve.
