What do you do? "Your city will go down in flames" "XXX has said that they will use their abilities as a Godfather to remove those in power" "We attack on XXX date" It seems there is no way out from this circumstance. Stoking the fires of paranoia is quite easily the best approach to set the world ablaze, because nobody likes to risk being wrong, even those who think they won't be manipulated by shady characters with anonymous messages. Let's face it, the information can quite easily be passed off as genuine. There are many ways to create fake statements and provide 'evidence' of the impending doom your city apparently faces. If you do it right, with patience and skill, it'll have the desired effect. Or, you chose to reach out to the other side, who may well have received a similar tip off, and are frantically trying to assess the situation themselves. Do you reach out to calm the waters, or does that just lead to a bullet, because you are just providing evidence that you are aware of the situation? No matter how much you may wish to come across as genuine, it seems there are too many pessimists out there who simply assume the worst. Is it even possible to deescalate a situation, among all the fear and paranoia? |

Allow me the honor of being first to respond to this wonderful question Fisk! BrotherHec fixes his hair and smiled as he looks in the mirror. First it is pivotal to state that this is a very circumstantial type of issue. Keeping the shady characters present it truly comes down to the leaders and their relationship with each other. The first and most likely situation: You are not friends. Sure you get a long but your bloodlines have only seen each other from afar with that your nerves will raise like the hair on the back of your neck. Your trigger finger will beat on your gun like your heart against your chest. So I shoot do I watch? The fears rise and the mind grows cloudy in its ability to judge effectively. You hesitate to reach Out as you may look timid and that you have fallen victim to meaningless words. The second situation is rare: The two of you are friends. Lead together and fought hours by each other's sides. Now words make you question your friend and his intentions. You start to second guess all of your former interactions and wonder whether they really cared about the person behind the suit or just what they could gain from it. You dare not reach out first as you don't want to appear to question your friend so you wait. All the while you toss and turn when you sleep wondering if you are going To be betrayed by him whom you hold so close to your heart. i dare say my actions can not be spoken here as they would be based on the situation at hand. With the current leadership there would be no hesitation for me to pull each of them aside and speak. This is the type of relationships you gain when your number one concern is your friends and their success opposed to the bullets you have used and units you can sell. fisk great question. Thankyou. |

I think this is always a difficult situation to be in, especially as a leader. To receive information, sometimes in the form of anonymous messages left to you by strangers, that could endanger your crew, your district or your whole city and to then decide how to respond or what to do with it, if anything. What if you ignore it and it leads to everyone's death? To know that you could have moved first and instead have failed to protect those you've sworn to protect. Or if you move on it and later find out you were manipulated into killing people that really had no intentions to harm you? Which of the two is the worse? Personally, I think it's important to take everything with a grain of salt. Think about people's motives, why they might be saying what they're saying and, most importantly, what would they gain from you moving on their information? If it's an anonymous tip, you have to consider why. There are salty people in this world that would do anything to manipulate things to their advantage, to convince others to cause death and destruction so that they can rise up again in its place. Is there always time to consider all the variables? Of course not. You might decide not to move or when you do move it might be too late. My own mother was killed because she waited too long to act on a tip such as the ones you showed. She could have taken a protective shot, but didn't want to create more paranoia too soon when the information she was getting wasn't clear and by the time the details came, it was too late, by mere seconds. Does that mean I'd act differently, having seen my mother gun down for not acting soon enough? Probably not, honestly. I don't believe that you should wipe entire cities simply because of a vague rumor, or fear of what they could be come, or out of sheer boredom as the tyrants of the past were known to do. If we want to build a new world, as has been talked about so often since the death of DoctorBoom, then we have to start somewhere. |

Happens pretty often, but is second guessing a form of paranoia? |

Pusha yeah I think you could say that paranoia could be the case. I think paranoia however is a word that is being thrown around a lot lately and there's a difference between that of one being paranoid versus one being fearful of what could occur. But yeah paranoia could definitely creep in and maybe if we have some learned psychologists they could explain to us how paranoia actually takes hold of all of ones thoughts All in all pusha I think it's case by case dependent on the person that goes through it and what they are susceptible to. I could be wrong so What do you think? |

BrotherHec, indeed the personal circumstances, positions and relationships should be certainly be considered, however I would argue that there is a much more common theme in place than you suggest. One that is based more on knowing what people are capable of than their relationship. There is still a general flow of events which will leave room for little result other than the collapse of one side or the other. This is of course assuming that the fraudulent evidence has been produced correctly, with patience and skill. We're not talking about some bitter street thug attempting to stir the pot in the streets. I'm talking about calculated hitlisting, subtle suggestion and eventual confirmation of what a leader believes they have already suspected themselves. Experience and my own deductions have taught me that there will always be holes in our relationships, and the politics driven by the threat a party poses. For example purposes only, I'm going to pick on our friends in Philly. They have made some questionable, though not irresponsible, decisions in the public eye over the months, and if the recent chatter on the street is correct, they do not pose any immediate physical threat. To be convinced that they habour thoughts of bringing down those in power would be hard to believe. At this point in time, they are alive because they pose no threat, and it is reasonable to suggest that those in power are benefiting from an appearance of tolerance and compassion because of it. They have a bone fide example of how they are not tyrannical and paranoid, by allowing Philly to remain in position. Personally, I wish them the best of luck as they are 'learning by doing'. Now if you flip the coin and have a collection of people who are between half and impressively competent, perhaps well known members of the community who are experienced in the way people, and each other, think, then things get complex. While they all sit in the same city, they are reasonably safe. It's when they start branching out, or fate removes all other opposition that things become tense. In the end, everyone becomes a potential threat, especially when it gets to a point that it's either you, or them, that falls next. It doesn't matter if they are a former friend or ally, when the rumours or whispers come your way and they are regarding these 'half to impressivly' competent people, who will likley go through the same though process and analysis as you will be, a serious consideration will be made as to if you move first, or risk riding it out. In those realtively common circumstances, I would imagine it is pretty difficult to turn your back on the information and either move, or raise tensions by talking about it. |

It's a great topic given that recently this has become somewhat of a trend, it's definitely something that's worth talking about. The tips are something we will always see, leaders will always get information cross their desks and ultimately it's up to them to sift through what's bullshit, what's possible and what's the truth. 80% of the stuff that comes to me is nonsense, 20% of it may have some truths in or I'm just not knowledgeable enough on a certain area to be able to reach a conclusion on my own. This is where your contacts with other people come into play. In my time as a leader and prior to that as a Right Hand, I reached out to people and vice versa, I have always felt that having good communication with other cities is vital, particularly when it comes to finding out how much truth is held in these tips. If someone were to tip me that Kurgan was coming to kill me, I'd know that it was complete nonsense because of the relationship we have and I can echo this with many other leaders. I think the right tip at the right time can definitely create tensions, particularly if there's already an element of suspicion there. The CH and DT/NY war was a good example of that. In that case the tip contained false information but due to the potential for it to be true, it lead to a war that completely changed our society. Whoever pulled that one off would have been rubbing their hands together at the mass amount of destruction they caused I imagine, because ultimately that is all these people want, to see some kind of drama. We went through a period of quiet and people become discontent by that, which is why we again saw information, falsified or not, be passed on to PH regarding DT. We had seen a period of quiet prior to that and the world was slowly rebuilding after the fallout of the previous wars and then once again those looking to create drama struck again. In direct answer to your question though, it's not always possible to deescalate these kinds of thing but with the right contacts and plenty of communication you may find that you can disregard a lot of it as bullshit before it even needs deescalating. |

It has always been my belief that the source of the information is the most important thing. Even if something is a hundred percent true, if it comes from someone who has been known to shit stir or in the form of an anonymous tip then it'd be laughed out of the room without much, if any, investigation. The same words coming from someone trustworthy... that's when shit gets serious. |
