Singers singing bar Started by: SINGER on Apr 21, '10 23:39

Al was back in Detroit and eager to sing a song everyone knew! "Bartender, a round for the house on me. I'ma gonna' rock this place, so hold on to your glasses." Al always got a bit cockey when he drank but it was all in good fun at SINGERS.. He took the stage, setting his usual stool next to the mic and sipping his rum before he placed it on the old wooden stool.

"Drink's on me ladies and gentleman, (He paused) Especially the ladies! I hope everyone's having a good time tonight if not, then its high time we start! I'm gonna need you all to repeat the chorus after me!" With that he started to stomp the beat with his feet and sang:

Folks, now here's the story 'bout Minnie the Moocher,
She was a red-hot hootchie-cootcher,
She was the roughest, toughest frail,
But Minnie had a heart as big as a whale.

Hi-de-hi-de-hi-di-hi!
Ho-de-ho-de-ho-de-ho!
He-de-he-de-he-de-he!
Ho-de-ho-de-ho!

Now, she messed around with a bloke named Smoky,
She loved him though he was cokie,
He took her down to Chinatown,
He showed her how to kick the gong around.

Bodoo-la-doo-la-doo-ba-doo
Bodoo-la-doo-la-doo-la-doo
Ho-de-ho-de-ho
Ho-de-ho-de-ho

Now, she had a dream about the king of Sweden,
He gave her things that she was needin',
He gave her a home built of gold and steel,
A diamond car with a platinum wheel.

Wit-da-slow-joe-vi
Wit-da-slow-joe-vi
Bod-de-doden-boddle-oh
Bod-de-doden-boddle-oh
Ho-de-ho-ho-ho-ho
Ho-de-ho-ho-ho-ho

Now, he gave her his townhouse and his racing horses,
Each meal she ate was a dozen courses;
She had a million dollars worth of nickels and dimes,
And she sat around and counted them all a billion times.

Hi-de-hi-de-hey!
Hi-de-hi-de-hey!
O-de-bot-doo-doo!
O-de-bot-doo-doo!
Ba-doo-ba-doo-ba-doo-bottle!
Ba-doo-ba-doo-ba-doo-bottle!

La-Minnie had a heart as big as a whale.

Poor Min, poor Min, poor Min.

(Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, recorded December 23, 1930)

Reckless applauds for Alfonse and takes the stage with his guitar, once again. Reckless being the Pirate that he was, had decided to play a pirate song he wrote.

Sweetheart, you don't understand. Pirates weren't made to dance. We just weren't made for it. We slit throats, we don't cut rugs, but if it means that much, I guess that I could take a chance. We'll both go, we'll both go. I won't ruin your night. You know how I get into knife-fights (What if my leg breaks while we dance?). Then, we'll both go down. So I paint my peg leg for the prom. I've been practicing my dance moves all year long. So you'd better keep a look out, in case I go for second (third) base with my hook out. I went out and got a tux and a limo for the both of us. I pulled up trying to impress. Despite how hard I tried, you cried and ruined our night, just cause my bird shit on your dress. We won't fucking go down. (We spike punch with barrels of rum. We loot and steal to seal the deal.) Say what you will about me and how I do things, but don't you open your mouth about Polly. I guess we made a scene cause in come the police, waving guns and asking me to leave. We won't even try to say goodnight, cause we know that you won't apologize. We won't even try to say goodnight, cause we know that you still think you're right and we mean the things we say. We say just what we mean.

Reckless walks off the stage.

(OOC- My suits a pirate, so it fits. Song's called "Dude, What's a Land Pirate?" by The Wonder Years.)

Violet had to clap hard for the performance made by confucious and Ava_marie....

Bravo BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! She loudly says that made her date Tither look at her as if she spawned another head. She giggles back at him and winks at him. C'mon now, the night is just starting and you have to agree that both Confucious and Ava_Marie made this night in Detroit a night to remember. I meant they really wanted to outdo each other.

Violet took another gulp of the tequila and kiss Tither right there and there fully on his lips.

No need for lemon when you have that lips for me to suck up. She grins and wink at him wickedly.

Report Post Tip

Ava feeling motivated by violet's rambunctious applause, decides to sing yet another song.  "Ok, here I go"  She giggles.  "I'm pretty sure this song is not about playing poker."  Then she starts singing once again.

Quite some time, I've been sittin' it out
Didn't take no chances, I was a prisoner of doubt
I knocked down the wailin' wall, ain't no sin
Got the feel of fortune, deal me in

Comin' straight on for you, you made my mind
Now I'm stronger, now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you

Now I know I got to play my hand
What the winner don't know, a gambler understands
My heart keeps playin' it through, with you my friend
I'll take my chances on you, again and again, again

Comin' straight on for you, you made my mind
And now I'm stronger, now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you

Yeah for you

Comin' straight on for you, you made my mind
And now I'm stronger, now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on, straight on, straight on you
Straight on for you

You made my mind
Now I'm stronger, now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on, straight on, I'm straight on for you
Straight on for you

Ava waves at the crowd and smiles sweetly.  "Thank you so much, you are all too kind!"  Then she slips off into the crowd looking intently.

Report Post Tip

"Pardon me," Ava steps back onto the stage and says, I forgot to give credit where credit is due!"

Report Post Tip

Violet sways at her seat in tempo with Ava marie's song.  She even close her eyes to feel the meaning of Ava's song.

Ava you are really the best! You rock this house. Slugerrishly yelled by violet. probably because of the tequila she drinks.

Jodie see's a Singing bar, something that is just her style. She walks in and listens to every singing. She nods and claps as the people go up and sing average, alot were off pitch, alot were in the wrong key, and most were just plain flat. Jodie knows she has a beautiful voice and decides, why not show the whole bar what real singing sounds like. After the last person gets off the stage, Jodie walks up on the stage and begins to sing an original piece.

Hello Everyone, I am going to sing a song that I just made up before I got here. Begins to sing.

Walking around the street,

Moving to my own beat,

I'm a vegetarian so I dont eat meat

I have very pretty feet

The only type of bread I eat is weeeeeeaaaaatttttt!!!!

The crowd goes insane, screaming out "BRAVA BRAVA, ENCORE, ENCORE!". But she modestly gets off the stage and exits the bar. She then says to herself Damn, I'm good. She then hums her way to her next adventure....

Report Post Tip

Reckless stands up applauding for Jodie, as she heads off-stage he begins to make his way up stage. Enjoying the performances by everyone, he feels a bit nervous as he walks to the stage. Everyones been doing so good, I hope I can keep it going, he thinks to himself. Shaking the negativity and nervousness away, a wave of comfort comes over as the music plays in the background. He begins to sing.

Shes one in a million
Which makes my chances about a million to one
Like finding all the answers to every single question
Youve ever asked yourself
While youre starring down the barrel of a loaded gun
Life throws a punch and I hit the floor bruised and broken
But still Im begging for just one more
Call it compassion or satisfaction
But she keeps my heart beating for one beat more

Shes harsh in manifold perfectly promising and thats all that counts
Head over heels -heart over odds
Do you want to know the secret about her?
Yeah, but can you speak up just a little louder?
So come on- Check! Check! Can you hear me now?

And Ill start fighting my way to the top
Ive got a long way to go
But I know that I just wont stop until Im over and done with
Cold, rotten and gone stiff
Six feet under those sic inch heels

So come on- Check! Check! Can you hear me now?
So come on- Check! Check! Can you hear me now?
Life throws a punch and I hit the floor bruised and broken
But still Im begging for just one more
Call it compassion or satisfaction
But she keeps my heart beating for one beat more

She dont give me anything to breath about
But safe to say, and in contrast to point
Shes not someone I want to breath about
Dont go running away from
All the things youre feeling inside
Thats right, I dont care if she leaves me gasping for air
But she keeps me coming back for more
She dont give me anything to breath about

Prophet walks into the bar, Prophet saw the stage and knew how SINGER was, he'd love to see people perform. Prophet just shrugged and said,"Why not I tried poetry."

So Prophet told to keep a beer ready for his return, Prophet then stepped up to the stage, the audience applauded,"Thank you, Thank you, we're all here to have a good time so I hope you enjoy, this is a song about where I come from... Ahem!" Prophet cleared his throat.

Travelling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,

Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Buying bread from a man in brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, do you speak-a my language?
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,

I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Lying in a den in bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?
And he said,

Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Prophet thanked the audience for their time and exited the stage with a small number of people clapping, Prophet smiled and walked over to the barman who had a cold beer with a nice head waiting,
"Your a champ mate." Prophet said drinking his beer leaving a white mustache from the froth.

(Men at Work's *hit song Land Down Under)

Violet begins to nod off, probably because of those drinks. When she heard Prophet's voice, it jolts her to wake up.

Woah what a voice! Then she begins to nods off again, as if she did not hear anything

Report Post Tip

Ava Marie is having such a good time in Detroit singing for the crowd.  She claps politely for Jodie, trying to make sense of the song.  She also applauds Reckless and Prophet,  Ava giggles at the words, but they have beautiful voices!  Always loving to be the center of attention, Ava gets up to sing once again.  She straightens her clothing, freshens up her make up and heads back up to the stage.

At This Moment - Billy Vera & the Beaters

What did you think I would do at this moment
When you're standing before me
With tears in your eyes
Trying to tell me that you have found you another
and you just don't love me no more

What did you think I would say at this moment
When I'm faced with the knowledge
That you just don't love me
Did you think I would curse you
Or say things to hurt you
'cause you just don't love me no more

Did you think I could hate you
Or raise my hands to you
Now come on you know me too well
How could I hurt you when darling I love you
and you know I'd never hurt you-oo-wo-oo-o-o-o...

What do you think I would give at this moment
If you'd stay I'd subtract twenty years from my life
I'd fall down on my knees
and kiss the ground that you walk on
If I could just hold you again

I'd fall down on my knees
and kiss the ground that you walk on baby
If I could just hold you { pause }
If I, could just hold you { pause }

If I.........
If I could just hold you
Again

Ava Marie steps down from the stage.  She is always just the tiniest bit nervous while waiting to see if the crowd liked it.  As the applause starts, she lets out a sigh of relief while unconciously playing with her hair and smiling sweetly. She curtsies modestly, blushing a little bit.  Then Ava goes to sit by Violet, giggling when she sees how tipsy Violet has become.  "Violet, when are you going to get up and sing?  I bet you have a beautiful voice!"  Ava says sincerely to her friend.

Report Post Tip

Prophet hears Ava trying to talk Violet into singing, Prophet gave a smirk downed his drink stood up and yelled,"Come on Violet! I bet you have a beautiful singing voice! wooo! Yeah! Violet" Prophet began clapping, a few joined in and then it spread like the plague. Soon the whole bar was clapping and chanting for Violet to get onto the stage, Prophet was lucky that SINGER had supplied such good grog,"You got no choice now," Prophet said with a laugh and a shrug as Violet shot him a "I'm going to kill you after this...". Prophet then sat back down and ordered another drink,"A beer, any country just not from America, I want to be on the wild side today." Prophet said with a grin to the bartender.

Music was a big thing in the Luparelli family. His Father, as well as his Father's before him, all had been very good guitarists and singers. Vinnie had picked up the instrument at a young age, taught by his Father, and was fairly good at it. However he wasn't so blessed when it came to his vocal chords. As Vin pushes his way inside, he takes a seat to watch the performance put on by a lady he had never seen before. He was very impressed by the show she put on, he applauded as she headed off the stage. Despite Prophet's chanting, violet refused to go on stage. Vin saw his chance. He felt the stage was calling him, and he ran to answer that call. He takes a guitar from the house band and pulls up a stool to the microphone. He begins to play simple chords to check that it's in tune. Satisfied, he clears his throat and begins to play. His eyes stayed closed throughout the whole performance. This was his first time performing for someone who wasn't blood related.

Run like a race for family
When you hear like you're alone
The rusted gears of morning
To faceless busy phones
We gladly run in circles
But the shape we meant to make is gone
Love is a tired symphony
Tou hum when you're awake
Love is a crying baby
Mama warned you not to shake
Love is the best sensation
Hiding in the lion's mane
So I'll clear the road, the gravel
And the thornbush in your path
That burns a scented oil
That I'll drip into your bath
The water's there to warm you
And the earth is warmer
When you laugh
Love is a scene I render
When you catch me wide awake
Love's a dream you enter
Though I shake and shake and shake you
Love is the best endeavor
Waiting in the lion's mane

The guitar continues to play, slowly fading out as Vin strums lighter and lighter. The sound slowly dies out and Vin gets up quickly, walking straight to the bar where he sits down and orders a drink.

Ava_Marie finds her way back to Singer's Bar.  She always enjoys it so much here.  She looks around at the crowd and sees some of the regulars, as well as a few newcomers.  She listens to Vin sing and play the guitar.  She thinks he has very pleasant voice.  When he is finished, Ava_Marie heads up to the stage to sing once again.  Ava has a special spring to her step and gleam in her eye.  She has true happiness in her voice as she sings:

Heaven, I'm in Heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.
Heaven, I'm in Heaven,
And the cares that hang around me thro' the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.
Oh! I love to climb a mountain,
And to reach the highest peak,
But it doesn't thrill me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.
Oh! I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek,
But I don't enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.
Dance with me
I want my arm about you;
The charm about you
Will carry me thro' to Heaven
I'm in Heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek

"It's kinda quiet in here..."Prophet says looking at his watch,"I got time, Let's make some noise," Prophet then grinned and walked up to the stage with a spring in his step, nearly tripping on the third step up to the stage Prophet rolled to make it look like an intentional entrance. "Ladies and gentleman, I don't think I need a introduction but I'll give it anyway, the name's James Marshall but you guys can call me Prophet, I'm a white south African and yes I know I don't know how either" Prophet giggled and the crowd gave a little laugh, Porphet coughed and said,"Alright, here's a song that should inspire some others to come oup and enjoy themselves, the chorus is easy come on everybody join in... *ahem*"

The band started to play and Prophet started to sing:

We have

The chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older

We're all someone's daughter

We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

Chorus:

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!

This time

We know we all stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing, we can make it better

Oooooooh,

We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?...

You're the voice, try and understand it

Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o! The crowd then started to join in,
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!
they all sang or yelled, Prophet smiled and continued to sing.

{Instrumental[Bag Pipes(Tin Whistle)]}

Ooooooh

We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?...

The crowd then knew what was coming and started to cheer, chant, sing, yell in joy
You're the voice, try and understand it

Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!

Prophet smiled,"That's what I'd like to see, you've been great folks see you guys at the bar," Prophet then took his leave to the bar and ordered and scotch.

Alfonse hadn't been good and liqored up enough to sing for quite a while. A storm had shut down airports in Detroit and Al was well on his way to being good and snockered. He headed into SINGERS to see if anything was going on? Ava mentioned she was stopping there so Al was ready to make a fool of himself singing for her.

Walking in, he noticed her at the bar in a shiny red dress, laughing and drinking. Her smile captivating as usual. A song came to mind instantly. He was careful not to be seen and slipped onto the stage. Only after slipping the doorman a sawbuck to dim the lights.

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance
I have never seen that dress you're wearing
Or the highlights in your head that catch your eyes I have been blind
The lady in red is dancing with me cheek to cheek
There's nobody here, it's just you and me, It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never for get, the way you look tonight

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side
And when you turned to me and smiled, It took my breath away
I have never had such a feeling
Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight

The way you look tonight
I never will forget, the way you look tonight
The lady in red
The lady in red
The lady in red
My lady in red

(I love you.)

The Lady In Red (Chris De Burgh)

He slowly rose and stepped off the stage looking at Ava_marie on the way over to her. He greeted her with a kiss and then slowly swept her around the open area for a dance. Still humming the tune in her ear..

Ava_Marie follows Alfonse's lead around the dance floor effortlessly.  She feels like she is floating on air.  A silly little smile is plastered across her face as they dance slowly.  Ava wishes this night would never end as she looks up at Alfonse and feels his arms around her.  "That was a very nice song you sang, Al."  Ava whispers to him.  Al smiles back at her, and she is truly happy to be alive.  Then she notices that he is a little bit tipsy, but he is holding up well.

*Skull walks into Singers singing bar and looks around... He takes center stage and adjusts the microphone.. The music starts playing softly when Skull starts to sing.. He sang..*

This Romeo is bleedin'
But you can't see his blood
It's nothing but some feelings
That this old dog kicked up

It's been rainin' since you left me
Now I'm drownin' in the flood
You see I've always been a fighter
But without you I'll give up

I can't sing a love song
Like the way it's meant to be
I guess I'm not that good anymore
But that's just me

I will love you baby
Always
And I'll be there forever and a day
Always

Now your pictures that you left behind
Are just memories of a different life
Some that made us laugh, some made us cry
One that made you have to say goodbye

What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair
Touch your lips and hold you near
When you say your prayers understand
I've made mistakes, I'm just a man

When he holds you close, he pulls you near
When he says the words you've been needin' to hear
I wish I was him with these words of mine
To say to you till the end of time

That I will love you baby
Always
And I'll be there forever and a day
Always

If you told me to cry for you, I could
If you told me to die for you, I would
Take a look at my face
There's no price I won't pay
To say these words to you

I will love you baby
Always
And I'll be there forever and a day
Always

I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and words don't rhyme
And I know when I die you'll be on my mind
And I'll love you always

OscarTheGrouch sits in the audience listening to the songs with a deep frown on his green furry face

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! he yells from his seat. For a Grouch, booing is not neccesarily an indication of not enjoying something, and is considered a positive and endearing gesture amoung other Grouches. The fact that OscarTheGrouch truly did not enjoy the performances in this case was purely coincedental and irrelevant.

Waitress go fetch me a bag of tomatoes pronto! I need something to throw at the next performer!
