Corrado steps up to the podium in the downtown auditorium. Lights the Cuban he has in his mouth and starts his speech. Ladies and Gentleman I have asked you here today to ask you a few questions maybe you know the answer's to these questions maybe you don't. First, what is a mafioso? A mafioso to me is someone who has earned the right to be called a mafioso,by showing honor to himself and his family. By showing loyalty to his fellow family members and his Boss. By respecting himself first then his family,why himself first cause if you don't show respect to yourself then how is he going to respect his family and Boss. Second, Are you a mafioso just because you are apart of a family? No your not your just an associate of a family. You have to earn the right to be called a mafioso,which in returns makes you a Made Man in a family. Once you have achieved such a great accomplishment in a family you then have earned the name mafioso,you have earned the respect of the family,other members of other families. A mafioso should be respected by all members of "this thing of ours" no matter what affiliation,until they do something to disrespect the family or "this thing of ours" you should always respect this person in life or death. I leave you with this. Being a mafioso is not something given it is earned,its a right not a privilege. Respect it! Corrado steps away from the podium and sits at his table. |

| So what you're basically saying is that I should respect everyone who has attained the rank of Mademan? Whatever Family they are in? Unless they do something to prove otherwise? And this does not apply to other people within the Family structure because they aren't Made? | |

You misunderstood me a bit I'm afraid. You do respect any mafioso the rank of Made its a prestigious thing in our way of life. You respect them just a bit more than you do a Gangster however or at least this is the way its supposed to be. Every person in your family deserves respect no doubt otherwise the boss of your family wouldn't have them associated with your family. But being a Gangster,Goomba,or Wise Guy is nothing compared to being Made. |

No - I think I understood you perfectly - in order to be called mafiosi, you must be made.....and all Made's should be respected! |

OK,Then I misunderstood you. But yes thats true or at least how I see it. A Gangster to Wise Guy is an associate,they should be respected yes, but not looked at the same as a Made Man. Its a fact in this way of life. |

| So....because, for example, a fellow businessman extrorts more people than I, and he obtains thus position of being Made - we say that people obtain the rank purely on merit, but we're not naive, we know that's bullshit in the majority of cases - because this guy earns so well, then I should respect him? | |

All Mades SHOULD be respected. Anyone below the rank of Made Man is not a member of the Mafia. This is not to say that all Made Men need to be personally liked, nor does it suggest that every Made Man is necessarily worthy of respect or even worthy of receiving the rank. But these issues don't concern us. Rather they concern the Bosses on the Commission who decide when to open the books and who should be allowed in. But theoretically, the initial point is absolutely correct. Respect for your superiors or in the case of someone who is already a Made member of the Mafia, your fellow members is of paramount importance in this world. Being Made should equate with being a protected species as far as the criminal underworld is concerned. The rank is what the community makes it. |

Brasco walks through the streets stopping as he over hears Corrado-Enrico and Armand talking about what it means to them to be a "mafioso". He waits for the gentlement to top talking and pitches in his three cent I think this depends on what type of family you are "associated" with or a "member" of. Back in the days when this thing of ours strived on Omerta, respect and family values then the what Corrado-Enrico has said is correct. Anyone that is not a "Made Guy" is mearly an associate to that family and in the eyes of other families is nothing more. They do not "deserve" the respect that a "Made Guy" does, as they have not proven their worth. If your a "Made Guy" it shows that you can be trusted and that you now are apart of a family not just a mere associate. In the days of the old, a "Made Guy's" word is stronger than that of any associate, as they are apart of the family and trusted. I do not think this analogy can be 100% reflected in "this thing of ours" because alot of families don't have enough "Made Guys" to cover all positions but also because friends are trusted no matter what rank they are. If thats the way you see it,then thats that. I see it differently obviously their Boss decided they deserved the rank, if you respect the person or not is up to you. |

A young man steps out to voice his opinion I think DonBrasco has hit the nail on the head so to speak. Nowadays your rank is not neccesarily a mark of respect so much as your bloodline is and who you are friends with. This is seen to a large extent in the choice of RHM buy many crewleaders. They will choose their close friends over a supposedly fully trusted member of the family, as is noted reguarly with low ranking RH's. However this is simply their prerogative, they can choos who they trust more and put them in a position respective of that amount of trust. |

| So by this way of thinking you could have a huge amount of respect for a fellow member of your family who had it achieved the rank of Made Man, but then they die and rejoin the family as a thug. Does this mean you no longer have that same respect for them? | |

| Sorry not thinking as I wrote. I ment if the next in their bloodline joins the family as a thug, do you have no respect for them? As many Bosses must have respect for this next generation as they place them in positions of power such as RHM. | |
