After the Christmas Day 7 Event results, I removed the character Cato for automation. After looking at the logs and seeing speeds of mid 200 profiles scrolled a minute, while finding pretty much every cloak/stone in the process, I could only imagine it was done by automation. I wacked his character as a response to reviewing the logs. Afterwards, Cato came to me to explain how he did it. I had him record a video of it being done so that I could see it with my own eyes and match it up with logs. After reviewing his process, he was not using automation. His character will be revived, and I hope his reputation restored. While he used many tricks to make things as efficient and easy as possible, none of it was automated. I do find that he took the tricks too far and will be disqualifying him from the competition, but, he acted within the rules and because of that, deserves his character back. Everyone uses little tricks to their advantage, for example, turning off profile images when you are scrolling profiles to be faster. With his knowledge of things, he just had a bigger pool to pull from. Next year we will be changing our coding around a bit to ensure that the tech savvy people will have a much more limited advantage over those who are not. I apologize to Cato for this mistake, and thank him for keeping his cool when most would have lost their shit. |

Not trying to start anything here, but if he acted within the rules and was simply using tricks based on his insight, should he really be disqualified, if he wasn't doing anything wrong, technically? |

I have already told you that I understand the position you were in and don't hold it against you. You are 100% forgiven. The only complaint I could lodge is that being banned simultaneously from the game and IRC made it substantially harder to make my case (I had to use multiple proxies to get into IRC, which is an actual violation of the rules that I wish I didn't have to do). I would only ask that in the future, if the player doesn't have a history of rule-breaking, they're allowed some opportunity (perhaps a day or two after the fact, if need be) to make their case to one or more admins. No hard feelings. Wish I could get 15 hours of clicking back, but beggars can't be choosers. |

Axel, I don't feel what was done was in the spirit of healthy competition. It's a very slippery slope to reward people for things that would cause us to have to put in code and procedures that would make everything much more difficult for everyone. I don't think a captcha every 5th page load would make it a pleasurable gaming experience. I don't think setting a page-load throttling limit to 1 per second would make it a very pleasurable gaming experience. I don't think putting "trap buttons" that cause instant XP reduction or character suicides would make it a very pleasurable gaming experience. I think it would be better to just broaden the rules to make sure all grey areas are covered and not reward things which will cause regular players like you, to never have a chance in any event or action that requires you to go against someone else who is more knowledgeable than you. |

Actually, Squish, I find that one an excellent idea. Provided the XP reduction is not too harsh, it would make us think a few milliseconds before, instead of the usual monkey-clicking frenzy... |
