An option to lock people out of your own threads. Started by: PrettyBoyFloyd on Jan 27, '17 23:12

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to lock certain people out of a thread that you've created. Lately i've noticed that some people like to ruin someone else's thread by simply trolling or by taking the story into a completely different direction. Especially in the streets section. I know some people put a lot of effort and energy into creating a good story, and they would hate to see their story ruined. I for one wouldn't like it if that happened to me.

So would it be possible for the topic starter to have the option to choose who he or she allows to respond in their thread. For example by crew, district or city. Or just a selection of people of your choosing, in case you just want it to be a story among friends. Or perhaps an option to delete unwanted replies to your own thread?

Thanks.

Threads in your Back Alley are 100% under the control of the thread creator.

Threads in a business district have a level of control by the thread creator, they can even ban people from the thread.

All public threads, however, and are for the public.  If you need to control what happens there, it can be handled with a mobmail to your upper structure.

I think you should be able to control your private things, but not necessarily your public things.. We have crewleaders, demotions, holding back rank, taxes, and even the wack function to police the public forums.

While I can understand the wish for it, the negatives vastly outweigh the positives imho.

If someone wants to have a public thread in the streets, be that a roleplay or a speech, it is by its very nature open to the public. If they want it sandboxed and safe, they have backalleys or other avenues.

There are better ways to handle unwanted street speeches than with admin mechanics. We have all the player control we need via our player accounts and that's the way we should handle these issues. If it's something the starter of a thread doesn't want they have ways and means to roleplay around it. If the person in question is being a jerk they WILL get their just desserts in the end.

I agree the trolling of threads we often see is nasty, I just don't agree that the way to handle it is asking the gods to take control when we have the powers to control it ourselves. We're roleplaying mobsters here, not hand holding story tellers. If someone is truly RPing that, they'll be only delighted with an opportunity to throw their weight around.
