There was chaos everywhere across the country. Tales of wars back to back as soon as she landed on these shores from Sicily. She was smart enough to keep her head down and lay low until she found the person she was searching for. Her delicate hand crushed the paper in her coat pocket nervously as she pushed her way through the gathered crowd. She had places to be, and already feeling overwhelmed. People here in the Americas looked at her strangely as she spoke with her thick accent, yet she brushed it off as their loss and ignorance. Finally making it free of the crowd long enough to hail a taxi, Rosa retrieved the paper from her coat as the taxi driver stowed her suitcase away in the trunk. She glanced around realizing this was her new home. The Windy City. Her hazel eyes focused on the scribbling on the paper as she sat back in the taxi, giving the driver the address. She rested her hands on her lap as her new life began. The taxi driver pulled up to the curb then removed her luggage, and awaited his fare. She arched an eyebrow as if he thought she was gonna stiff him the cash. Mio Dio. Such bastardi everywhere it seems. Rosa collected her suitcase peering up at the Cafe where she was to meet her father’s friend, Eduardo. She knew him from his visits in Palermo, but hadn’t seen him in a couple years. She smoothed the black Chanel suit as she settled at a table near the window, so she could keep a watchful eye out at the passersby. Within moments he had arrived, and what seemed like a whirlwind of events, Rosa soon found herself in a tiny one bedroom apartment in the Loop. Apparently her father had arranged a few things for her, but as she glanced around the somewhat empty place it felt dreary, sparsely furnished, and very, very lonely….nothing like home. Days later after getting settled into the city, spiffing up her small apartment with furnishings, Rosa set off to meet a contact of Eduardo’s. She desperately needed a job, otherwise she wouldn’t make it here in this new land. He wouldn’t exactly tell her what she was to be doing, but she gathered it was more of a courier, delivery service position from the details he mentioned. Her instructions were to deliver a few packages to a man named @Teo, and keep her mouth shut, drop the packages off, then leave. |
