A man steps out from his winter house and steps onto a quite large box. He then proceeds to clear his throat. "Ahem, testing, testing, TESTTTTING." The man continues to speak with an eloquence that is not matched by many others. "Guys. What I am here to address is the fact that every single one of these speeches are underlined with one main concept: Boring. Where are the people that aren't afraid to start up a wild debate? Where are the people who don't care what happens to them, no matter what they write? So many things can happen in this game. Yet, most people are in such a fear of death that they refuse to write anything considered dissrespectful." CaptainX then walks down off of the box and too the tiny crowd of people that have gathered to listen to the man speak in the middle of a frigid winter storm. Continuing with his speech, he points to a man standing in the crowd who does not look content with what X is saying. "What is wrong?" The man looks puzzled, but then realizes what X means. He then walks over to X and stares eye to eye with him. "Yes in fact I do. You should not be attempting to start an uprising... this will start nothing bu-" CaptainX then pulls out a gun and shoots the man square in the face "Does anybody else have anything to say about this? These people are the reason that nobody wishes to start anything exciting in the Streets. They believe that they will meet much resistance and in the end be shot and never heard. They will be thought as a rogue and anything they say or have said will become invalid. Well, this may be true, but a better question should be... why are people afraid of changing?, why must every other thing be on Taboo? I believe if we where to open up what can be talked about, this place would be much better." CaptainX then steps down from the Pedestal and drags the dead body into his home. He then yells out to the crowd. "If you wish to say anything, do so now." |

After listening to his speech, she contemplates her answer before speaking. She's brief, but not without point. The wildly outlandish speeches have become rote and mundane, unfortunately, and all too often the same old political speeches are reused, reworded, and reformatted in order to gain some semblance of street credibility with the community. Originality is craved, and its not that there aren't original people inhabiting our communities, its simply that when the new and unexplored happens, its not often publicly announced. We can lust over the 'good old days' as they're called, and turn our streets into the carnivals they once were complete with freak shows, oddities, and sideshow speakers... but only the truly original among us, not the wildly controversial, will stand out. |

Not to reuse, reformat, and reword exactly what Nikki said, but I have to agree with her. Unfortunately, as only the most observant ones among you may have noticed, I lack quite a bit in the originality department, at least when it comes to speaches. |

Brasco over hears CaptainX's speech and hangs around to see what other mafioso's have to say. He lights a cigar and makes his way to the front of the small crowd, stopping just in front of them all and starts to talk CaptainX you may have a valid point in a round about way, we all love the "old days" when we have mucho entertainment and it was not hard to walk down the street and get engrossed in several conversations and circus tents, but you come here asking for other people to make this ruckus and for them not to give a damn about their lives....why not do it yourself? Is it not somewhat hypercritical of you to come out here and ask others to start the "entertainment" when your not willing to lead by example? Brasco pauses to take another drag of his cigar and waits to see if anyone else pitches in their two cent |

I hear what your all saying and agree but aren't you forgetting one small thing? I mean, I'll gladly put forward an entertaining argument to brighten up the winter days but lets face facts here, there's nothing to debate anymore. If I'm to be honest, I haven't dropped by many soap boxes today and listened to the words of wisdom but I'm going to venture a guess as to what's out there. This is straight off the bat so don't be going getting offended if you fit into one of these little categories. We'll have a declaration of a new family, auth'd by whoever, steadfast to change whatnot...betterment of the community...yada yada... soon to be followed by voices of support and the strong belief that its about time someone was recognised for their works. A report from an existing family sorting out a problem they had earlier, bringing in a new rule blah blah, someone in new position and letting us all know to direct whatever the topic is to their mailbox, and so on... Two or three no so hilarious discussions/stories relating to two or three Mafiosi which they have kindly decided to bring into the public fore, dropping inside jokes which they get, which we read, which we really don't really care about so we push on to the next. No doubt there's some poor soul lost somewhere, asking about the difference in federal and local banking, maybe how to deal drugs, the list goes on and car crash numbers sore as people fall asleep at the wheel listening to them. Is it a university, is it a lottery? No, its this weeks little 'thing' we got going on which tries to grab peoples interest and participation. So now, what exactly is there to debate about? Any time there is a political debate among families, it isn't really a debate, it's a shouting match with continues until A) a naughty word is said which then leads to silence so its dealt with, B) they go way off the point and no one knows what's going on and fizzles out in the end or C) someone cant debate so shots are fired. See, in order for debate to occur, things have to happen, and because nothing really happens in this bloody community, people are sitting around twiddling their thumbs until someone, not liking the silence, eventually hits on an idea; "I think the blue in the sky is an off blue, more of a greyish blue, lets debate this fella's!' So seriously now, can anyone thing of a debatable topic? I'm going to go for a cigarette, gonna take my time with it too, then I'm going to make a cup of coffee...slowly make siad coffee. I'm willing to bet no one will have any genuine ideas when I return. |

With a puff of his cigar Brasco turns to Canton I think with the fact that we are debating over the lack of debating, we have stumbled up on a debatable subject.... Brasco pauses and makes sure what he said makes sense running it over in his head Second, you complain about people not making an effort and are just "waiting" for something/someone to happen and yet, you walked off to have a cigar and "waited" for someone else to say something worth throwing in your two cents. Is that not some what hypercritical? Brasco takes another drag on his cigar and "waits" round on the street corner |

No I don't think I'm being hypercritical because I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that the reason people don't debate isn't due to a lack of originality on their part, its because there's nothing to debate about, nothing controversial happens anymore. Even if it does, everyone seems to keep tight lipped for fear of getting themselves in a spot of trouble. I mean, we could sit back and probably talk about cigars all day, it would pass the time quite nicely, but its only an idea. Talk on an actually happening is few and far between, mainly because no matter what we say, when it comes down to it, its easier, because no one is going to be killed for disagreeing on a particular type of tobacco. |

Some of 'us' diehard crazies are still around. Do I believe running my mouth at this moment in time necessary? No. I could make an argument, and cause trouble about TylerDurden dying. Will I do that? No. Why? Cause he deserved it? Most likely. If there is something interesting to make an opinion on, I will. If I don't, then it's not interesting. I feel CaptainX, you are experiencing a problem which I have seen before. Don't worry, it's easy to fix. Instead of blaming the community for everything being "boring," do something yourself... Why are you looking to everyone else to fulfill your needs? Like an wise old man once told me, "The best person that can please you is yourself." Good day and good luck. |
