| ROUNDTABLE DISCUSS RHM gets crew if CL dies | Started by: Squishy on May 05, '10 15:42 |

It makes sense to me that the Right or Left be next in line, but only if another change was made...you can only be a Hand if you're Made or above. |

I second Joy on the Made or above rule.
Also, upon joining a family, you ahould have a certain amount of confidence that your CL would make a good choice for RHM and LHM. If you don't trust your CL's choices, don't join that family!
I'd like to add that after Rhm as first choice and LHM as second, if all 3 leaders were to fall in a war, then it should automatically go to the next highest ranked player in the crew and so on. I think this would level out any politics that could be played with this rule AND give a few deserving people the chance to run a crew -- even if it's for a brief time. |

I think they should make this an option. Considering how long wars last it would make things a little more interesting and possibly longer lasting wars |

Perhaps it should be set to auto-hand over to the RHM as first priority, and then the LHM as second priority, but once a RHM or LHM takes over they arent allowed to appoint a new RHM or LHM for x amount of time, and if a families top 3 dies the family is auto disbanded as per usual.
This is what happened in a game i used to play and it worked out pretty well. It brought a lot of strategy to wars as your constantly trying to disband their family and possibly break their ability to effectively fight back. |

I read through it all and the one thing that sticks out in my mind in this is bringing ANY progress on new blood etc to a grinding halt. This world is stagnant as it is, no real change over in average terms. Adding this would simply through one more log into the jam. When a leader dies the ability of a city, seperate leader, counsel or what have you gives the oppurtunity for change and new lines. This would simply take that away. |

I think a feature allowing the RH to take over would make things more realistic. A rival CL could contact a RH with a proposal to get rid of the leader - the RH is in a difficult position. This happens in real life (Paul Castellano, for example). Also makes city take overs a possibility, rather than a city take-down. |

So... When a leader sets up shop, he gets a large building somewhere in town to call his "HQ", correct? If he has purchased this property, and the family runs their operations out of that building, shouldn't the HQ remain even if the leader dies? Johnny_Kraven brought up that the HQ remains, but they "vote" on a leader.. and that's retarded. There's no voting in the Mafia. However, if the successor were to just jump in (keeping all HQ threads intact), it would save a LOT of time and effort. |

Yes it would save a lot of time and effort but what about the people in the family? Some dont want to be stuck in a family if the RH gets the family. |

Firstly, f you want wars to last longer, then create what I will call the "Tyler Durden effect". All members need to be taken out before taking a shot at the LH, then RH then CL. I'm not suggesting this, but it sure as hell would make wars last longer. More chance of damage being done to the warring party, more turnover of life and wars will definitely drag out for a good while longer. Only problem there is that it makes someone like Deimne even more out of reach than he already is. Meh.
To be quite honest, if the CL dies then the crew will be in a state of panic anyway as more often than not, the CL has the gun that has the only chance of winning them the war, so creating what people have defined an "invisible HQ" (I'll address that term in a second) doesn't change the panic that occurs when the CL dies. As for this "invisible HQ" bollocks - it's not fucking invisible. When the CL dies, from an RP POV, does the HQ building just disappear leaving all the members standing around saying "wtf just happened to our HQ?" Seriously, I love the idea of the 24 hour boost after the CL dies, it's a bit like having a defence boost from still being inside the HQ building.
Alright, as for this "But what if I don't like the RH :(" concept. 1) How about you start taking the RH into consideration when you join a family, and also take into consideration that most of the time the former CL's new account will become the RH of the new leader. Same leadership combo. I've often found that most leaders and RHs share the leadership load quite equally, so you get an equal dosage of each and not just one lump sum of CL. This is because when the CL is offline, the RH is in charge and half of the day, the CL is offline. So chances are if you don't like a RH, you shouldn't be joining that family anyway. Having a "Leave family" option is being a tad nice to everyone, but that's Squishy's pleasant and caring nature shining through. I would have said that if you wanted to leave the family then it should be in a box. I'm very much loyalty orientated chap. |

Harmony, if I'm not mistaken, when a person's leader dies, their first thought *shouldn't* be about themselves, and what family they'll be "stuck" in. Sure, there are wackbacks and such, but if a leader falls, there is no reason for the whole crew to disband when the majority will probably remain with the successor. My idea just simply saves time. Honestly, if you don't want to work for your leader's RHM, you shouldn't be working for that leader. That means you don't trust your leader to choose the right individual to run in his absence. |

Okay I understand where you both are coming from. I'm not stating I have any issues with my own CL's RH because I do not. But I do not neccessarily think that once the RH (if this were to occur) takes over that it would be the same family. When crew leaders die now people don't have to neccessarily go to the successor's family either. I just think that if it ever happened (and since it hasn't Im not overly worried about it) that it shouldn't be a mandatory thing for people to have to accept the invites or be automatically put in with the RH. If that doesn't make sense to anyone please feel free to mobmail since I do not always pay attention to this venue as often as I should. |

At the end of the day I believe it adds more realism. I'm sure not all family members in RL are happy to serve a new Don when the old one retires/dies. Perhaps they have an animosity to the sucessor because of something he did to them to get to his position as sucessor. |

I like Chris's Idea of the Leader picking a successor, it'll probably be the RHM anyway, but at least it gives the option to give one of your shining bosses or consigs to get a chance at leadership. And if a CL makes a silly mistake maybe the crew deserves to be in the firing line of a hostile take over. Anyway that's my two cents in this arguement. |

I agree with "the CL gets to decide who his Heir Apparent is" idea. Even tough I am just a Lowly Wise Guy.........personally I chose the crew I wanted to join because I knew that I wanted to work in NY and I licked the CL's name...Thats it....And Im a First time player.......In the Mafia IRL the Former Leader usually said "such and such will become the next GF,CL" And everybody just went along with it....usually no questions asked....The Mafia was like...a partial Democracy in that, The Higher ups(ie: made men, dons, etc) decided things and then the soldiers followed orders that they were given. You could have a word in these matters only if you had already earned your stripes...thus earning the right to speak in the Presence of such men like your CL and GF |
