A couple of suggestions Started by: oRagnar on Feb 07, '17 19:10

I had a couple of things in mind that i think might be useful here.

  • First one is concerning the Forums. I suggest that we should be given a 5 minute period of time to have the chance to either edit our post or delete it, however in order to make spammers not able to post as much as they want and delete them again a person should be limited to 3 posts per half hour or something alike. It would be useful once you watch the mistakes you might have made there and want to edit them, or in case the posting you just put up turned completely around on you having misinterpreted different details and have the urge to get rid of it.
  • The second one is more time consuming and pretty much not worth your time to even take it into consideration but im gonna go ahead and say it anyway. It is regarding the W/S sales. You sell a W/S and you get 5k $ and thats it. No favours with the police, no experience, and no harm done to the other guy. How about making it a bit more interesting, e.g if you decode the name correctly and then give that witness to the police the other person is put to jail for 10 mins or more or this time is added the next time he ends up in prison. Also the one who gave away this gains some favour with the police for example one free tip and the News & Info tab or maybe some experience , maybe 0.1 credit or whatever to make that feature more interesting and make people wanting to sell their witnesses more. However if you arent able to decrypt it correctly there should be a penalisation of some kind and there is also the option to jusy sell it for 5k if you dont have the nerves to crack the mystery!

Thats what i was thinking so if anyone has anything else to add, agree, disagree is more than welcome to post a reply regarding their thoughts over this matter :)

Report Post Tip

I don't think limiting someone's posting number per half hour or hour or day or week is even feasible...defeats the encouraging of posting imo.

Report Post Tip

I agree with that but if you are given the nod to delete you posts than lets take an example some troll decided to join and then right out of nowhere he starts posting a lot of threads taking up space although ive never seen it happen it might happen.

Alright well I think it might benefit us as writers who catch a mistake too late and it is spotted right when you are submitting or shortly thereafter to be able to have a few minutes leeway to edit it really quick.

As far as having the urge and choice to delete it just because it was misinterpreted...or someone didn't get the reactions they wanted...or it just doesn't go their way...

No..!

If we as writers (and mafiosi) cannot take the criticism then we don't really need to be out there actively posting then should we?  We will not get everyone agreeing with us on every single topic or discussion thread we create, it isn't realistic.  We are adults here yes? (At least I know a percentage acts like they aren't but that is another topic altogether)

Alright, thanks for your suggestion! Anything else you would like to add ?

People have suggested stuff relating to editing before, like a fair bit and it always gets a knock for various reasons. Just be more careful when you post if you want an edit feature due to typos.

You wouldn't ask to resubmit a job application or resend an important professional email in the workplace over and over again. Just take care with your writing from the get go, and if you make mistakes and they are still there when you submit it's because you didn't take the required time to not still have them when you hit submit. I know, it takes effort, but if you don't put it in the result is what you post.

As for spammers or trolls they are definitely about, but you can't do much other than use what they post or simply ignore them entirely. They dissapear after awhile of not recieving the attention they crave. Like in the real world, you just ignore people you dont like or deal with them as skillfully as you can.

Okay as I was saying before my keyboard spazzed out...

Regarding the w/s ...that wouldn't work as well to changing it because a ton of the w/s we receive are of NPCs, so how would they be alive again to be put into jail.

Not trying to shoot down the ideas, just shedding a bit of light on the idea. :)

Regarding editing/deletion: You cannot take what you say back in real life, you cannot in the forums. If you call someone a cunty twatface one minute then change your mind the next and edit it people that have read it won't unsee it. The forums are where "life" happens. Can you imagine the bullshit it would cause I went around saying TsuDhoNimh had crabs and was into clown porn (He actually is) while insulting his mother in the Streets, then because I didn't like the replies or decided he really wasn't, deleted the thread or edited it? If you have a spammer or a troll, contact HelpDesk, that's what they are there for.

Regarding limiting posts: Excuse me? Pardon me? How does this encourage activity in more than a few threads? What if someone is active in several threads and replies to them in succession? What if the thread is very active and people reply in succession?

Regarding mistakes: USE THE PREVIEW FUNCTION and proofread. That's why we have a "Load Preview..." function.

The comparison is true enough(or you can do some crazy things like they do in the movies in order to get the envelopes they send), however its pretty strange that some mistakes in the writting only come to be noticed after you have posted them and thats the bad part.

I appreciate the input that you provided over the 1st matter and thank you for it :)

- I believe in editing/proofreading before posting, if you care enough to ensure there aren't mistakes. Honestly, we're all human. Everyone makes mistakes, and I think people understand that. Once something is out there, it's out there. If someone puts out a speech saying "Fuck This CL" for two minutes, then changes it to say "I love pizza", there's no way of knowing. I like the idea of everything stated in public being written in stone, because I think it's important for accountability.

- I'm not sold on the mechanics, precisely, of the WS thing, but I do think it'd be interesting to increase the consequences there. Maybe it's jail for the other person- which would be an interesting wrinkle to consider: being able to actively put another user in jail. If implemented, I think this should be a very rare thing, though. Like 2 WSs from the same person, but only within the "recent events" timeframe that you can sell them to the warden.

A few bits and bobs here....

oRagnar, best to keep very different suggestions to independent threads. It's hard to follow comments or views on one idea when there are going to be competing comments or views on another in the same thread. Makes it real hard to focus and hurts both ideas.

On the forums stuff:

Editing... there's all sorts of technical and gameplay issues there. It's something that 'could' be shoehorned in, but the negatives of doing it mean it really wouldn't be worth all the effort of making it work. It's no different to someone not preparing in real life tbh. If you see someone that frequently posts with terrible mistakes you can tell they're careless and prepare poorly. That's pretty valuable information to have, so I'm all good with the odd thread slipping by with a few mistakes (and it happens me as often as anyone).

Dear Lillith has already beautifully illustrated the gameplay issues around it. Imagine if I could tell everyone that she's really American and the whole Canadian thing was just an act.... then remove those words a while later.

On the WS stuff:

I'm not sure I get what you mean on the NPC stuff RosabellaCorti? If you mean when Durdens return fire, it'd be real easy to put an exception in place to reject a WS for any Durden. Though I would love to see Tyler serving out a jail sentence if I'm honest.

It sounds like a little fun and it could work, though the mechanics would need a little tinkering, I just couldn't see it being worth the effort. It would take a lot of resources to set it up, end up impacting on the game economy by bumping payouts from 5k per WS to something larger and would end up in a slightly quirky fun feature that gets relatively seldom use and doesn't actually have any impact on gameplay.

Interesting, just a bit too labour intensive (I'd guess) to justify it.
