Kathryn sat inside the diner, sipping her coffee and taking small bites of her eggs. There weren't too many people around; Vegas wasn't exactly the kind of town that woke up for an early start at the day. Ignoring the bacon, which could have doubled as a weapon to induce an immediate hear tattack, she surveyed the other patrons. A couple old men at the counter, just like every diner ever. A family in the corner. A few businessmen spread out through various tables reading the same paper. A young couple who seemed to be refueling from their nocturnal activities before going back for more. I wonder when she'll realize her shirt's on backwards, thought Kathryn. She wasn't in a particular rush, enjoying rare downtime for her. She'd get to business whenever Constantine arrived. |

As Constantine entered the diner, he surveyed the place. He was always on the lookout for someone easy to get one over as well as any potential threats. He worked an interesting line of business and sometimes the wierdest people showed up. Today though, seemed fine. John did notice two businessman who he might bump into at some point as he strode in and slid into a chair opposite Kathryn. He picked up a piece of bacon and got to munching, then looked up at the lady who the plate belonged to. "You really should lay off this stuff. It's a killer. Tasty though." He forced out in between chewing. He made sure to swallow before saying any more. "So, what are we up to today? A stroll through the park? A picnic maybe? Wait. Not another boring movie." John said with a straight face and as he slung his arms over the back of the chair. It was obvious he was taking the piss. On account of this being their only real get together since meeting. |

Kathryn grinned at Constantine as he swiped her bacon. She slid the plate over to him as she focused on her coffee. "We'll get to today in a bit; first, I'd like to talk about tomorrow. Tomorrows, more precisely. You've been doing good work, Constantine; although we haven't spent too much time directly together, I tend to know what's happening around town. I'm curious to know if you've given any thought to your future in the organization. Did you always want to remain on the fringes as an associate? Or would you perhaps be interested in more responsibilities, more power..." |

Not one to feel shame over much let alone a free meal, Constantine happily tucked in and pulled at more bacon from the plate. "Well, I seem to be stuck here in America for the forseeable future." John said in between taking small bites of the bacon strips. He hadn't yet found what he was in search of, and maybe he never would. But as long as his search continued he was staying. "So, if you have something more I can sink me teeth into, that would be swell." he said, more focused on the food yet still engaged in the conversation. |

Kathryn scrutinized Constantine as he spoke. He was a strange man. Rarely seemed to give a shit about anything, certainly irreverent- but a complicated man below the surface. Kathryn was almost always wearing a dress, but today she'd eschewed her usual formality for a brown leather jacket with a fur collar, a simple white shirt, and jeans that tucked into her knee high boots. Her revolver was in her right jacket pocket and her wallet was in the left; she was traveling light today. "You know, a walk in the park sounds kind of nice. I assume you drove here; why don't you drive us over? We can talk a bit in the car." Kathryn finished her coffee and stood, cracking her neck with her hands in her pockets. |

Constantine nodded, left the meal minus the bacon then also stood. Based on Kathryn's insisting he drive, he took the lead and walked out of the diner first. Without looking at the occupants inside he had a slight thought of letting a good lift get away based on the businessman who were still about, yet let it pass quickly as he opened the door and exited, holding it a moment to let his employer make her way through after him. It was early yet not completely dead out, which was perfect John thought as he casually walked towards a silver cadillac convertable roadster parked just meters away on the same side of the road, the car facing their direction. Without a second thought he jumped the door and slid into the drivers seat. After some fiddling around under the dashboard the car engine roared to life. A slightly exerted stretch to his right and the passenger door was unlocked and pushed open. John didn't bother to look over at his company, simply awaited Katnip's entry as he looked around at the Vegas street. One of the businessmen from the diner was exiting just at that moment, holding the door open for a pair of women. He lifted his fedora as they moved past him and inside, not making too much of a fuss at his gentlemanly effort, too engaged in their own conversation about a news flash that came over the radio last night. |

Didn't he have a car? Whatever, at least he had good taste. Kathryn pursed her lips as Constantine drove in silence. "I suppose we should talk about what happened in the club... I'm not particularly sorry, if I'm being honest, although I do regret that it happened. You should know that I don't usually resort to such a level of violence, but unfortunately you were the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to men thinking they could just kiss me. Apparently I felt the need to make an example of you." She glared at him for a second. "It was the smack, mostly. Anyways, it's over and done with, as I see it. Just be a bit more careful when you're flying high." She couldn't help but smirk at the last part, turning her attention to the desert morning passing them by quickly. She wanted to talk about why they were going to the park, but she figured it'd be better to let Constantine respond first. |

Constantine had an inner cheer going as he kept a straight face. Just after they kicked up dust and blew past the diner, the businessman who exited noticed his car flying by. John took a quick look in the rearvision mirror as the man ran into the street waving his hands, his voice too distant to really make out his extremely unhappy disagreement with his car being taken for a joy ride. After Kathryn's sorry not sorry apology not apology, don't be a dick again conversation opener, Constantine looked over at her. He flung his arm over the side of the door and raised it in the air. He enjoyed speed. And not just the drug. But the feeling of going fast, he believed there was no better experience he could find in this hell forsaken world.. Besides the drug. Without pressing too much on the topic and trying to keep things light as to not really have to deal with the consequences of his actions, he simply pressed his foot down on the gas pedal. "You think that was flying high?" He said with a devilish grin. The car began to pick up speed and quickly ticked the speedometer over. The max on this baby was 104 miles per hour, his last check, and it was steadily making its way there as they flew through the open desert toward their destination. |

Kathryn grinned. "Well, you're being considerably less risky now than you were at the club. Although you should remember that, while rumors of your previous death may have been exaggerated, your passenger only has a single life to live." She leaned back in the car and closed her eyes, bringing relevant facts to the fore of her mind. "I'm sure you're aware of Mayor Cragin, and if you're not then just pretend to be. He's a decent man to have in the mayor's chair: not particularly anti-crime and he knows that the casinos are the future- and the root of his city's prosperity. Mostly, he just wants to build a nice city: nice parks, paved streets, swimming pools, and clean neighborhoods that he keeps the blacks out of." Kathryn waves a dismissive hand. "None of which affects our life or our business. However, one of his top aides, William Clark, is making a lot of noise by railing against crime, corruption, gambling, etc. He's apparently building himself up to directly accusing respectable businessmen- and women- of criminal activity, hoping it will propel his career even higher. Not only could this bring certain individuals unwanted attention, but it could potentially create a powerful adversary to stand against our interests." Her blue eyes scanned the road ahead. "Left here. Then your third right. Clark needs to go, John- permanently. It's not a decision I made lightly, and I've pursued every other avenue. I know you've got your whole good and evil thing that I don't really understand. I'm not sure if you're willing to kill someone just because I ask you to, and I'm not sure if "business interests" gets the job done either. Maybe that's something you can clarify for me. I will point out, however, that if the grapevine is to be believed, Clark has been involved in some thoroughly evil shit involving the local Indian populations. So maybe that'll get it done. He'll be in the park we're headed to, walking his dog. A big black one. You don't need to do the deed here in the park- feel free to tail him as long as you want. But sometime in the next 24 hours." As Constantine pulled into a parking space near the park, she looked at him. "Any questions?" |

Constantine let the engine off and took in a deep breath as he scanned the environment before them. Some kids playing, their voices and laughter filling the air. A women in a stroller walking down one of the paths leading to a watery opening ripe with bird life. There were also seats scattered throughout with a few of the older population taking rest and making chit chat. One chair close to the pond is where a man sat, big black dog on a leash next to him, feeding the ducks. Must be him, John thought. John's usually light, well dark but light in content humourous side wasn't there. It left when he gathered the tone of the conversation was moving towards having this man removed. Permanently. Everything about him was serious. His facial expression had no grin, no cocky or wry smile. His eyes were distant, lacking warmth. And his body language was although calm, it was still, as he gazed out into the park yet more so in his thoughts. Death wasn't a subject he took lightly. Life, well that was for living and although he lead a reckless life he was always living it to the fullest. He knew death well. A litttle too well. John eventually turned and gave a nod in Kathryn's direction. No questions, just a statement. "Twenty four hours." he said, carrying a heavyness of heart in his tone. He knew what had to be done. |

Kathryn didn't smile at John, but briefly rested her hand on his shoulder for a minute. It was a gesture of understanding- of thanks. She was confident he wouldn't misinterpret her after the subject matter they'd just discussed... not to mention what'd happened in Fire and Ice. She silently exited the car, closed the door behind her, and went for a walk in the park. |
