48 Hour Debate Started by: -AphoticProphet- on Dec 19, '07 03:22
Imagine this scenario for me if you will:

"Tommy was a young thug and new to the world of Mafia. The criminal element and the Celebrity like atmosphere that surrounded the Mafia is what attracted him, since he came from a poor Family.

So one day Tommy hears that he has the ability to experience the lifestyle for 48 hours before choosing who to do crime with and who to dedicate his loyalty too.

Knowing that Tommy decides to have some fun and brush the edges a bit. So he wakes up one morning and walks down main street provoking Mafioso's standing near the coffee shops. " Hey there fella's!!" Tommy hollers and a group of nearby Wise Guys, "Just wanted to remind you, I've only been here 32 hours, you can't touch me. Look someone has already tried to shoot me in the back but luckily for me I turned him in and got him tossed into the Bay. "

Tommy stood bravely and began to walk down the street taunting even more Mafioso."

Kind of Silly isn't it?

Now I completely understand the 48 Hour rule. It's good for business, people can walk safely through the streets with enough time to decide for whom they want to work for. It also gives the fresh blood a chance before being a Target.

My question to you is this:

Should there be an exception to the rule when coming to Gangster's who are promoting the fact that they are here to Test the rule and brag how we can't touch them? Was the rule not Implemented to protect those who were uninformed about the way of life, and not to be used as a crutch and tool for those who's bloodlines are well informed about our way of life?

Anyone mocking the fact that they are protected by Air shouldn't be walking the streets, especially if they have the ability to be protected by rule but allowed to have a fire arm.

What threat could they possibly hold? Anything is possible, stray bullets can do much harm.

So what is your opinion on the matter?
Report Post Tip
I would guess you can probably already do this, as long as you have permission from the Boss of the city the Gangster is in. These guys forget that the 48 hour rule is a privilege given by the leaders, not a divine right passed down from the Gods. Those who givith, can taketh away.
Report Post Tip
you bring up a good point. I can't tell you how many times I found an unsponsored gangster walking around, I approached him and explained what he needed to do if he didn't already know; and my words went ignored. I felt like shooting every one of them. Do I have that right? Perhaps not. But at the same time if they're too stupid to listen to logic, or down-right ignore advise, I wouldn't want them to continue living.

It's odd that you mention experienced blood lines. It seems each time I'm ignored, it's by them. Many times I've gotten a response from the person that explains their father has instructed them on their way of life, and seldom I get a true untrained, fresh meat new blood gangster. I like to help people, but to abuse this privilege is a mockery to the work put into it. An insult to those who have died because of it.

Then again, why make a rule if it was only made to be broken?
Report Post Tip
Yes. I agree with you that the rule was implemented to protect those who are new to our shores, to give them ample time to learn our way of life and ultimately decide whose family to join. However, it seems that there are also individuals who abuse this privilege and provoke and mock sponsored mafiosi knowing that they cannot be shot at.

Those individuals who are caught abusing such privilege should be shot at provided that there is proof of their acts of provocation and mockery presented to Crew Leaders.

Well I think the rule is a good thing, if it wasnt there, young people would be dropping off all over the place. I have noticed the big scramble to find IA folk to make peoples aim that much better and I think if the forty eight hour rule was'nt ther, the same thing would be happening.

All that aside, what harm can a young guy really do? I mean, if he mocks you just take no noitce for a couple of days, after that, he'l be eating his words and hiding in a corner somewhere. And so what if he takes a pot shot at someone, the chances of the guy inflicting any sort of serious wound is very low, so no real need to worry.

A pain in the ass for sure, but I think its only fair to give someone a chance to look around the community and find their feet.
Report Post Tip
I actually agree with the first post, it is something, and something is better than nothing, that is implemented not by the rules and regulations, but by human decency and morals.

Thusly, if those in charge, the leaders of the current 6 families, meet up and decide to change that rule then theres not much anybody who comes to the streets boasting about invulnerability can do about it.
Report Post Tip
Overall i believe that the 48 hour rule is a good thing but like all other rules it can be abused. It is good for the expansion of our community and for new arrivals to these shores. However when someone from an experienced background simply to bitch and moan about their parents death and think they are "untouchable because of the 48 hour rule, then they should be shot in the face quickly.

Just my 2 cents

I have a quite simple view on this matter.

An under 48h gangster is like sponsored member, but instead of being protected by one leader he is protected by all. If you shoot him freely is not legitimate, you will get punished.

Though, as it happens with the sponsored fellows, if you disrespect someone, breaks any vow, do anything against or code, you're now a legit shot.

If a gangster in that situation curses your CL publicly, he can be shot. If a sponsored WG do this same thing, he can be shot.

If a gangster do as you say he can be shot. If a sponsored WG goes out in the streets shouting that XXX tried to WACK! him, he also will get his share of punishment.

The only real difference is that the sponsored fellow is judged by his family and the unsponsored gangster by all community.
Report Post Tip
Frankly, if some one respects the laws of this land, doesn't go around acting the ass, 48 hours is fine, but if some jerk comes and starts pestering wise guys let them dump him in the river with a pair of cement boots, the kids asking for it. Though I'd mark the kid some how before dumping him... so others know he was being disrespectful to start with.
Report Post Tip
So long as each family head understands that the others will not allow their crew to go wacking off people without first getting auth, then there shouldn't be a problem.

If though someone has a problem with the person wacked, they should hold an inquiry into who dunnit and why.

Fisk realises he doesn't smoke and tosses his cigarette

I'm not sure what keeps making me pick those things up...
Report Post Tip
So what happends if a family head already knows that a member has wacked a under 48 hour gangster but yet does nothing about it even when appraoched. I have noticed alot of this going on recently and the CL doing nothing about it not even taking away the gun.
Report Post Tip
Then Paisano we determine the good from the bad, the ones who do not follow the code, the way that the law has been set by those in power to do so, will eventually fall.

grimeTIME steps up, its his time to shine.

Ahh the 48 rule, i must say it does actually work. Myself, chillin' in the streets, 40 hours old, they couldn't touch me. It was great.

However, when some poor schuk not as lucky as me gets shot under 48 hours, the offender is very rarely caught and most people really couldn't give a shit.

Take you, Aphotic, nice enough guy. Yet you shot at an under 48 hour old and missed, by god i hope you don't deny it. And yet, there you are sitting as RHM to a crewleader? WTFOMGBBQ? Oh how the hipocrisy ooozed out. Your leader, busting his balls to promote these universal rules and yet there you are, blatent disregard for it.

In other words, why have a rule no-one follows just for the sake of looking to be a good crewleader. Lets be honest, i bet most of the crewleaders arn't really too fussed for having the rule but know of the social stigma that could well be involved with saying,

"Look, we don't give a shit. Our members are free to shoot under 48 hour olds."

As they know theres a good chance they could be taken out for it.

Whether or not this relates to your question or not, i don't know. I much prefer my own tangents.

There are shocked faces all around as grimeTIME departs the stage. He turns to one and says,

what the fuck you looking at fatty?

grimeTIME departs on his way shouting his signiture line as leaves.

Lovin the grime since 99'

I believe the 48 hour rule is for those who are new, and just wake up and need to find a family.

You walk around these streets wealthy, waiting to find a crew til the last minute and you are making money on the boss's turf = you deserve to be shot.

Its a privlidge, not a right to young gangsters.

If I was in charge and you were wealthy and had ample time to find a family and STILL you wonder around without protection you deserve a bullet and I would gladly help you find the bullet you deserve.

Ah the 48 hour rule.

One I have spoken about during my numerous visits to the coffee shops.

As a principle I am for it if as long as it is enforced properly. We have seen phases where people under 48 hours have been shot and killed or even shot at.

Now there could be a perfectly good reason for this, there could also be a perfectly good made up reason for this also. My main concern on the rule was how good a gun get with 48 hour protection?

I am unaware on whether an unsponsored gangster is still protected by this rule if his gun is smoking. I seriously doubt he is protected if he has shot at a sponsored person, but what about someone who we havent seen active in our cities for 7 days?

Maybe someone could clarify this for us?
Report Post Tip
I think the rule should only apply to those who are new to the shores and doesn't quite understand everything. I think if someone has had ancestors that knew everything there is to know, the rule shouldn't be applicable.

Of course, in some cases it's impossible to know for sure.

It's all up to the CLs, though.
Report Post Tip
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but was the 48 hour rule put in place because too many people found it impossible to calculate 30 hours?
