Around January time, I signed up to the Great Manchester run (10k/6 miles) with the intention of finishing inside 40 minutes to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Unfortunately, I partially tore a tendon in late February and pretty much shelved the entire project.

However, my ex-leukaemia patient sister has been reminding me of the years of torment she endured during treatment - innocently asking why, if she tolerated such pain, I could not run through the pain barrier for a relatively short distance. Thanks to this absolutely shameless guilt tripping and emotional blackmail, I have decided to do the run regardless of the fact I am desperately unfit through lack of training.

As such, my goal is simply to finish the 10k - and any sponsorship offers would be massively appreciated. To give you some background on the research behind finding a cure for blood cancers, researchers are using new technology to identify stem cells in chronic myeloid leukaemia; by doing this they are able to develop treatment which directly targets the source of the disease rather than ravaging the body through radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Society are among the leaders in this field, and I picked them on the basis that almost all donation or sponsorship is pumped straight into research, with a very small percentage going towards administration and miscellaneous fees.

To cut to the chase, I am offering $50,000 in game cash for every £1 ($1.50) donated. Although the exchange rate is likely to fluctate, I will simply keep it as £1=$1.50 fo the duration.

The run is on Sunday, so the latest I will able to accept sponsorship money is 22:00GMT (17:00EST) on Satuday 15th May. Please note that although I may not be around daily, you will receive all rewards for sponsorship on Saturday at the latest.

It's a more than worthy cause and it is something that is obviously close to Sprozz's heart. His sister being a patient and all. If not to help the charity then atleast the warm fuzzy feeling knowing that Sprozz is going to be in pain while attempting it. \o/

Anyway, Sprozz... I know how you're going to feel matey. I ran the Liverpool 10k 3 years back (unknowingly) with two torn ligaments and cartiledge in my knee. Once you get the first k or so out of your way you'll be used to the pain and probably would have forced your way through the pain barrier. I managed mine in 1hour 2minutes. Not the best of times but considering I was in pretty much your situation with injury and severe lack of preparation I'd imagine you could push the hour mark. I hope you do.

Good luck and its for a great cause. I have(or had) a friend with Leukemia who sadly past away last November. I'm afraid I wont be able to donate,as the deadline is up,and I have a cut budget with barely enough cash to survive. But good luck tomorrow. I hope you can make it through ok. I know,(Though I am able to run a mile in 6-7 1/2 minutes)that I would never be able to run a full 6 miles without collapsing.

The 'run' is over and done with, it was a mixed day as I retore the tendon at around the 4k mark and the rest was fairly hellish, and I finished quite a few minutes outside of the revised 1 hour target time I set myself. The competitive element of me was really upset about this, but ultimately the bottom line is; it's done and quite a few bob has been raised.

The total, so far, is £63.20. I say so far, as although the race is finished I am still canvassing for a while longer before I send the sponsorship forms off and count up the total amount.
