A Job Opening. Started by: Charles_Galo on Mar 01, '17 22:13
I couldn't even pay the rent, let alone sort myself out with a new apartment. Sure things were hard, especially with the workforce holding strikes every month. It didn't help that I had now found myself out of yet another job. Life in America was proving a fucking shit storm.

Looking through the morning paper, I'd seen that a construction job had opened up in Chicago. I found myself contemplating applying for the position. But it just didn't seem me. I was too intelligent for that kind of work. I could persuade people, a real charmer who felt my talents would lie elsewhere.

I'd been hearing on the radio about Al Capone who'd just been pinched and held in lockup for certain crimes. It got me thinking that he was going about his operations all wrong. He was a big mouth, a loud talker who wanted the world to give him everything. If I was part of the mob like Capone was? I'd do things differently.

Sure I'd want the world. But I wouldn't demand it. I'd show the patience that would allow me to slowly take it. Get the money, get the respect, and the rest would follow. That's how I'd do things. Problem was, I was a nobody. Nobody knew me, nor did they want to know me. But that all changed as I read through the wanted section of the newspaper.

I got a call on the telephone, and I was asked to come down to my local diner for a job interview. They didn't say what type of job, but I'd get down there anyway. I dressed into my best suit and made my way down.

"Are you the guy I'm supposed to be meeting? Charles Galo. Pleased to meet you. Although something tells me I ain't here to be washing dishes, considering you brought some muscle with you." I begin as the fella looks me up and down, taking my appearance in.

"So tell me. What's your name, and what can I do for you?"

You're Charles, yeah? Charles_Galo?

Tsu snarled at the fresh-faced young gentleman who had just recently arrived in town, the girl behind the counter having been kind enough to do some snooping on the stranger to keep Tsu from getting handsy. Again.

The poor kid didn't know who he was talking to, so couldn't know this was a made guy and right hand to a New York crime boss, but that didn't stop Tsu from being a little pissy. He had been angered. He was furious. He could barely contain it. Someone was reading a newspaper with great interest. One that wasn't The Potato and one that Tsu wasn't even getting a cut from. One that had bloody wanted ads. "Why didn't I put wanted ads in The Potato?" he asked himself, quickly trying to think of ways to blame Richard_Sharpe or keypunch for the terrible oversight.

You don't need to know my name Charles, it's one you'll learn over time. I'm mouthy, so you really can't miss it at times.

I'm interested to know where you got that paper, though. And if one of the crime families in our six cities is using it, I'm sure going to want to speak to them and give them a piece of my mind. They're pouring their money down the wrong holes when The Potato has ample advertising space available. Some things are worth waiting for, so I'm happy to wait.

While we do wait, why don't you tell me a story? You seem set to make a big leap into a new way of life... have you got your goals laid out in front of you or are you making a leap of faith and simply hoping for the best from this way of life?

Entering the Diner, he see's Charles_Galo seated with the famous editor and chief of the Potato Mr TsuDhoNimh. He waits for a break in there conversation and introduces himself.

"Hello gentlemen, I'm Gabriel head of the House of Angels. Firstly a pleasure to meet you Mr TsuDhoNimh, can i quickly say that you have a brilliant paper running and i'm thoroughly enjoying reading it, each and every issue"

"And Mr Charles_Galo it seems i was too late in arriving. Since our conversation on the phone i hear you are already employed with close friend from the great Los Angeles, its a shame we couldn't further i endeavours together but i'm glad you have chosen LA as your place of residence. Just a quick word of warning, be careful of the room at the bottom of Midnight's HQ there is some weird and dangerous stuff down there"

"Well i will let you get on, I'm sure you both have very busy lives as do I"

"Good day"

Gabriel leaves the diner and suddenly remembers that he is actually quite hungry and should of gotten himself something to eat whilst he was there.

"Well Can't go back in now, best see what else is around?" he mumbles to himself hoping no one hears.

Midnight steps up to the building she was told her new crew member was dining. She had ears and eyes on the inside and had learnt that  Gabriel was trying to warn of her underground work. She waited outside patiently for him to come out and slowly stalked him before throwing a bag over his head and dragging him into the back of her car. I hear you have been telling stories of Torture Island. You make my work seem like a bad thing my dear. I simply view it as art. She smiled and drove the man further away from his location. Perhaps I should show you some of my work close up. Let you get a real feel for what goes on hat chamber of mine. She continued to drive to the middle of nowhere with her new victim, eager to teach him a few new tricks.
