Gooch stepped off the boat that had brought him to America, and he wandered off down the street, stretching his legs a little bit. He stopped at a bench in the street and took a seat. What could he do now that he was here? Gooch lit up a cigarette and sat contemplating life a little. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to give him a home and an actual chance to make something of his life, and a name for himself. He was never satisfied with being at the bottom. That wasn't good enough for him. He wanted more. He pulled out the sandwich he had in his bag, after finishing the smoke, and he began eating it, hoping that someone would sit on the bench for some company. After all, coming to a new country by yourself was difficult enough without being broke as well. |

The sun reflected off of the ocean in the most beautiful way. The boats came and then sailed off to wherever it was they were going. I walked slowly down the sidewalk, nowhere to go in mind. Ciggarette after cigarette, the smoke drifting up into the air letting the sea breeze drift it away. A man sat at a bench, the fresh off the boat look, a sandwich in hand and I could bet not a single penny In his pocket. I approached the man, a quick look up and down, "Hello, May I take a seat?" |

"Sure, take a seat." Says Gooch to the fella who came to sit next to him. Gooch continued to eat his sandwich. |

I sat down and pulled out a cigarette, the man continued to eat his sandwich. That gave me time to think, the lighter hit the tobacco and I took a deep drag. I had a little something to offer the man, "So you fresh off the boat eh? So.. No money, no home, nothing in a land that is new to you?" |
