Permanent Auth - Notifications Started by: Gwarble on May 14, '10 05:37

It seems to me, that the direction we're heading in is towards one of realism.

I therefore ask, why are leaders given pages upon pages of permanent auth notifications?

We already have witness statements that are by and large easily recoverable, I don't know why the crewleader should be given a notice every time one of their trusted associates fires their weapon.

I believe that we should do away with permanent auth notifications for crewleaders, as they would have no way of knowing this information instantly.

I have to agree with Gwarble. If I shoot someone in LV, 3 hours away from NY, how can my CL know the shot has been taken the very instant I pull the trigger.
As Gwarble says, if I have Perm Auth, then my CL obviously trusts me enough to allow me to shoot. If I then go and abuse that power, chances are the CL will eventually find out, either through a WS or when another CL comes looking recompense.

I was under the belief that this was brought in simply so that Crewleaders didn't have to auth every single shot..

Other than that, I do agree with what you're saying.

Obviously I don't mean every single shot, just those that require auth :/

Maybe their should be a delay in the notification? That way the hitters could be trusted with perm auth and it add some sorta realism. I guess the delay would change depending on which city your in and which city their in. I dunno but I think i delay would work...

I'm not saying scrap the permanent auth process. I am advocating that the crewleader no longer gets a personal notification of the shot once fired.

Why should a leader get any notification that someone across the country fired their gun?

We have witnesses already that see every single kill (which is also extremely unrealistic), do we really need a fantasy notification that wouldn't be remotely possible?

In my opinion, no.

I believe the reason for that notification is that you got orders from your CL to make that wack thus the true meaning of the notification is that his orders were followed and i don't believe it will take the shooter too much time to make a simple phone call!

regardless of what i have said, taking away the notification will lead to:

- x wacking y "by mistake"

- witness statement sent to an IA user or a new user who simply deletes it (let's just say the statement was lost)

- x does not admit the mistake

- who killed y?

chances are the CL will eventually find out, either through a WS or when another CL comes looking recompense.

how will he find out if the WS was not found?
and why would he ask your leader in specific?

someone spotting someone else shooting someone is extremely unrealistic?

with all do respect to you and all CLs i believe the notification is somewhat important and should not be removed.

What Gwarble is advocating is removing a CL only notification.

When a member of a family is granted permanent auth, it means the CL trusts him enough to give him carte blanche to shoot whomever he wishes. This is because the CL trusts the person not to abuse the power.

At present if 'Mobster A' is given Permanent Auth, as soon as he kills 'Mobster B' the CL gets a notification to say that 'Mobster A' has killed 'Mobster B', this is on top of the usual 2 wack statements sent out.

The only way a CL will not find out is if the Wack Statement is buried by the witnesses. This would only happen if 'Mobster A' kills an inactive. In a situation where 'Mobster A' kills the member of another family then the WS will eventually turn up, and when it does the CL of 'Mobster B' will usually approach the CL of 'Mobster A' looking compensation either financial or the death of 'Mobster A'. If 'Mobster A' has been sent to kill someone by his CL, then the CL will know the contract has been fulfilled when 'Mobster B' turns up in the Obits.

This means that the additional notification the CL gets is not needed. In fact with 3 IA spawns available every 48 hrs for each player it could mean the CL of a family of 50 mobsters getting upto 150 such notifications every 48 hours. I can understand Gwarble's frustration if everytime he logs in he has to delete 20 or 30 stupid Permanent Auth Kill notifications.

how will he find out if the WS was not found?
and why would he ask your leader in specific?

I trust I answered these questions already.

Someone, somewhere, spotting every single shot ever fired is inded extremely unrealistic... if this were the case there would be no unsolved murders in the world ever, and as we all know there are serveral unsolved murders throughout the world. Anyone remember Jimmy Hoffa for a start? I believe a more realistic approach would be WS going only to people with a high info skill who are online in your city when you shoot. If you are in a city where no one is online, how could your shot be witnessed? But that is a discussion for another time.

with all do respect to you and all CLs i believe the notification is somewhat important and should not be removed.

As you misunderstood the general concept of Gwarble's suggestion, I believe you are wrong...
