A Cycle of Violence Started by: The_Courier on Mar 14, '17 04:32

The man they called The Courier walked over to the middle of the Street and looked around. He didn't see too many people who would be interested in what he had to say, but shit, he had to make an attempt. Hopefully people would hearken to his words once he had started. "A jolly good day to y'all." he begins, addressing nearby pedestrians, a few of whom stopped to listen. "There's been a lot o' bloodshed n' killin's over the last few days. Many fellas had taken up arms against the current regime, claimin' that they alone were the answer to tyranny. That they were the saviours who would deliver this land from the clutches of Vegas. That they were heroes fightin' for a noble cause n' standin' up for their fallen."

He takes a while to ponder on this, and shakes his head sadly. "Unfortunately, these so called messiahs do not seem to comprehend their own message. Ya see, they were just dishin' out more sufferin' rather than reducin' it. If ya want people to follow ya, and look up to ya as a leader, then ya need to show benevolence, instead o' contributin' to the cycle of violence that plagues our world." His voice grows more confident as he speaks. "Change ain't somethin' that can be brought about by bustin' a cap in somebody. Even if these self-proclaimed revolutionaries manage to topple the current order, they would just take over and carry out a purge of the old order, effectively turnin' themselves into a new set o' tyrants and breedin' new rogues."

"This cycle keeps on repeatin' again, and again, and again." He looks at his audience now with fire in his eyes. "So to all of ya rogues, who claim to be changin' things, I challenge ya with this. Stop shootin' everyone in sight, and try to make a meaningful change by gettin' involved in the system. Try to bring change with honour rather than with the sword, through order rather than chaos. For he, who establishes himself through bloodshed is naught, but a despot. He who wins the hearts and minds of his peers and followers, is a visionary."

Gracie walked up to The_Courier and put a hand on his shoulder, "But war, war never changes." she says dramatically before wandering back off to her office.

Was it his words or his accent that snagged the attention of the young woman today?  She sure was running into a number of interesting people lately but she had seemed to deem it her job to make friends and meet as many people as she could in this crazy world.  She smiled warmly to the man as he began to speak.  Her astonishingly bright blue eyes glittered with eagerness and understanding in his words.  She loved what he had to say...  Simply loved it.  Was it possible to end the cycle of violence?  Violence perpetuated violence and yet...  How does one stop such a steamrolling train?  Shaking her head softly, she watched the interaction between Gracie and the man who very much had something to say.  Her words were true...  However why did there have to be the war she spoke of?  Too many thoughts to ponder as of late.  It was enough to drive someone to distraction! Remaining ever the silent watcher, she took in the words of those around her.  Just how did one do as The_Courier spoke of?  How did one become a visionary?

oRagnar had finished some business in the bar nearby and was going to his vehicle to return back to Detroit when his ears caught the words that The_Courier was speaking. They were reasonable and made sense and the last part was something that Ragnar wanted to discuss further and joined the conversation saying:

Hatred! It has been something going around our shores for a long time now and as you said it will only keep repeating itself. Unless something changes inside the minds of those that decide to take the situation on their own hands there will only be more meaningless deaths. I get it that some of youre relatives have been taken out in this world of ours but that's how it goes. Coming forward with the desire for revenge will only make things worse for everyone. And taking out other innocent people will only create more hatred and make you the bad guys you believe are fighting against.

I do believe there might be another solution to this thing and might end up more profitable for both sides!

With that said he than takes his leave from the crowd and enters his car which start disappearing more and more in the horizon until nothing is left.

The Courier nods in agreement with oRagnar's points. "Ya bring up some excellent points regardin' vengeful actions sir. I must commend ya on yer wisdom." He then turns to Kenzi. Even though she had not voiced any of her thoughts out loud, he had some inkling of what she was thinking. "Ya must think me an impractical idealist ma'am, for proposin' such things. All I got to say is that, what I propose is perfectly achievable. All it takes is determination, willpower, and the courage to recognize yer own faults and to fix 'em." He waves a hand around the streets in general. Everybody involved in this thing o' ours knows that those in power are responsible, not just for themselves, but also for everybody working underneath 'em."

"Bein' a Crew Leader or a Godfather is not solely about wearin' the bold suits, or walkin' around with guns at yer command. 'Tis also about makin' a meaningful change in the world. Bein'  granted the honour of leadership is bein' given an opportunity to help shape this thing o' ours in a way that is lastin'. A change effected with the gun dies with the regime. A change effected by convincing others to follow ya, is a legacy that lasts a long, long time."

Kenzi perked up as she heard a familiar voice and caught sight of a familiar set of wheels. Turning to see if her thought was right, it was confirmed. oRagnar was imparting his wisdom. It shot her heart aflutter. Her boss was on a track and thought line that she appreciated and whole heartedly agreed with. She would keep her words to herself for the time being. Heck she wasn't even certain if he had seen her there or not.

Soon enough her attention was grabbed as the man turned and addressed her directly. She tensed considerably as she typically didn't start the conversations... Well except when pickpocketing was involved. But whatever. She refocused her attention fully upon The_Courier, her eyes fixated upon him as her mind tried hard to process what he was saying. His words were very attractive to her and she could only hope that someone could attain such a thing. To end the cycle... Was it possible? She had a little bit of a joke as of late, especially when her own games didn't go as planned. She would often ask, 'Why can't we just get along...' honestly though... Why couldn't they? Kenzi was quickly coming to understand this thing of theirs'. But did it mean they had to like it all the time? Not really... But she would finally draw a deep breath steeling herself to speak. "What you say is very interesting and deserves proper thought. I only hope for a situation to end the bloodshed and I'm certain I'm not the only one... What you say... I don't find it impractical but it's going to take some special people to lead us into that kind of era. It's going to take people willing to set aside their thirst for vengeance..." She gulped softly as she fought down the lump in her throat as she thought about her sweet sister. "So many die when it is not deserved..." She finally whispered. The usually incredibly playful little woman found herself demurely lowering her gaze even as the fiery anger burned in her own belly. Was it possible to set all that aside and to achieve this peace and find that kind of leadership? Where would it come from? More pondering was necessary here and this man had given the girl much to think about.

Joe had been standing in the shadows listening to The_Courier speak and then discuss his ideas further with those that had responded. He liked this kid and was glad to see he was bringing his ideas to the street.

Stepping out of the shadows Joe cleared his throat to make his presence known and began to speak

"As much as the idealist in me would love to see the bloodshed end completely I think that we all know that is not going to happen. We live a violent life and that means that from time to time war is going to happen and when it does people are going to die - depending on what side fo the war you are on is likely to be the deciding factor of if you believe those deaths are "justified" or not."

"Now, with that said I do think that what we can and should work toward is ending the random violence that does not accomplish anything more than temporarily quenching the thirst for revenge or blood that someone might have after a city has been wiped out - and I do think that a lot of this comes down to the kin of the fallen leaders coming out quickly and showing that they accept the fate of their fathers and mothers as part of the life we lead."

Joe sighed slightly and took a deep breath to collect his thoughts before continuing.

"As far back as I can recall the men in my family have been a part of this thing of ours and not one of them has made it out alive. The one thing that can be found in all of their journals, however, is the firm believe that any thoughts of payback or hatred toward those that killed them should be buried alongside them. They believed this because they understood that the very foundation of this thing of ours depends on us working together which can only be accomplished if we can move past whatever issues may cause a war once one side has claimed victory. This is something that the very first members of my family on our shores was taught by his leaders and it is something that our leaders need to continue reinforcing to their members now - if fallen crew leaders kin continue to stoke the fires of war after their parents die then the kin of those that followed their parents are likely to follow as well and we end up with the never ending cycle. If, however, they strongly encourage their members kin to move on and accept that the death of their ancestors was just part of what we do then they are likely to follow. Yes, we will still have rogues because we will always have them, but hopefully we could end the petty fighting and get back to the business we all love."

The Courier nods as he ponders Joe_Scalise's words. "What ya say is very true sir. This thing o' ours is built on blood n' blood sustains it. 'Tis the way o' things. However, the activities of rogues, even though they will always exist do nothin' to contribute to this thing o' ours." He pauses for a while to breather before proceeding. "Despite bloodshed bein' a necessary part o' all this, we ain't wild beasts. We don't kill because we want to or we can. We kill when there is a strategic meaning to 't. A premeditated shot can build an Empire. An unnecessary one can bring disaster on all o' us."

He paces around the pavement as he speaks further. "There is nothin' strategic or deliberate about the actions o' these rogues. They don't even have the means of hittin' anythin' worthwhile. All they do is take pot-shots at softer targets and then claim they are workin' to bring change. I say 'tis all a load o' pure, a-grade bull manure. They are just ventin' their own frustrations in a manner that is counterproductive for everyone involved, includin' themselves."
