I ask that you read this text in its entirety before you comment. I also ask that you ask questions if you do not understand something. There was a lot of misinformation spewed in the other thread by people who misunderstood the situation, its context, and intention. You know if what I am about to say applies to you or not. There is no reason to get offended if you know this does not apply to you. Events that are set up often have a purpose. Sometimes those events are done for purely entertainment purposes, sometimes they have a more specific purpose. I know you have all been in crews and felt like you were on the outside. You log in, go through the motions, log out. You send money to this stranger, and you pass the time until they get the entire family killed. You start over and join a new family. Rinse repeat. Every once in a while, you get into a family that works together. Fuck yeah. You feel warmth from everyone. You feel welcome. You feel like your family actually gives a shit. You all work towards common goals and you feel *involved*. The PTB events purpose is to take upper structures who have a large disconnect from their members, and get them involved. This is why one of the major requirements is the number of upper structure members that had to represent your district. A family isnt a family when you are on the outside. A family isnt a family when you are sat at the kids table, but not even in the same room. There are circles and cliques and they are rigidly defined. Sometimes it takes an outside force to put people in a shared experience to get them to bridge that gap. I am incredibly happy with the writers effort into their group contributions. I enjoyed reading the entries, I had a few laughs, I learned some new names, I smiled, I had a good time. However, the purpose of the event from my perspective was to attempt to bridge the gap from absentee upper structures to get involved with the whole crew, not just the 'old guard'. When asked about the events interest, I received none. It makes me wonder how many HQ threads or mass mails were made the first time? As time passed, when asked again about the events interest, I received one crew who was able to put together a few names. How many mass mails or HQ threads were made the second time? Finally, as more of the the upper structures died and were replaced, it started to gain traction and finally a third time looked as if there may be enough interest to run the event. I feel that taking 3 attempts to get this event going before we finally got some interest back in pre-October means that it was failing its purpose - to get upper structures to want to work with their members in a shared event and build bonds. How many of you had a one on one conversation with your upper structure encouraging you to give this a whirl the first time? The second time? The third time I started to see some interest. I feel that multiple attempts to get families to work together was met with indifference and disinterest. Of the people that competed *this* time, what was it that made you decide to not do the event with your previous CLs? I don't know if the members were maybe not included in the decision, or maybe their voices were not forwarded on to me. I don't know. But, thats *OK*. It just means that the event, as it was done, with its original goals in mind, were not met on the scale hoped, and therefor is not good enough to run as is. So with the event failing to meet its original goals, I start to look at other factors to gauge if the event is good "as is". I saw that 5 users in the entire site clicked the links to all of the entries (but of the 5, some admittedly didn't even read them). Thats *OK*. This to me demonstrates that users are more interested in a local event. They want to work in their circles and view the results of their circles. This to me says that this event would work much better on a local level than a world stage. Doing it on a local level also makes it easier for a new poster to "lay it all out there" since there is a perceived smaller audience, consisting of people they already have some form of loose association with. Its a lot of work to read all that text. Thats *OK*. It just means that the event, as it was done - with its original goals in mind, were not met on the scale hoped, and therefor is not good enough to run again as is. So if you are viewing the event from the eyes of the writer, it was a success. This aspect did well. Despite the other purposes failing, this part was fun. Thats *OK*. It just means that the event, as it was done - with its original goals in mind, is not good enough to run as is and would benefit from some major modifications to this event. Removing the goals of getting all upper structure involved with wanting to build a relationship with their members on the outside of their normal circle should be removed, and events whose main purpose is now simply writing. I would love nothing more than to inspire your upper structure to know your first name, where in the world you reside, what you do for a living, and to have their own set of inside jokes that *you two alone share*. I would love to get there again. I just don't know how. The PTB failed to get this done on the scale it was originally intended. I think other events or methods would be much better suited to be on track to achieve this goal than the PTB. |

OK issue one circles and cliques, these will exist forever in this game in all honesty. they may change form but i see them always existing as this game is as much a game as a social networking system for some. We used to see a lot of people complaining about the same people as leaders and hands, and the same moans on experimental cities just there for target practice. For the few that break into circles generally and not just break them up a lot never will or in some cases want too. |

First off Izzy, thank you for distributing the prizes. Many people, myself included, have been annoying you about that regularly so I'm sure it's a relieve to have it done and over with. I will also say thank you for this second, much more calmly written explanation. There are several points that I could argue with but I'm not going too because it honestly just seems pointless. What I can say is that South Side had an amazing time together, I worked with people I hadn't worked with before and the friendly competition across CH at the time was a great bonding experience for all of us. Which brings me to the question that I will ask. Why not finish this event the right way? For a month were were told we were waiting on judges and the judges were snails and the judges this. Finally we were told it was almost done and there was a tie and once the tie was broken the results would be known. And yet here we are, with prizes but no results. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a highly competitive person. I wanted the results far more then I wanted the prizes. If everything was judged, why can't we have real results? Even if the tie was never broken, I'd rather know that I tied then to not know anything. I get that you never want to do this again, and that's fine. Your call. But to end an event we worked so hard on without a proper closure just feels wrong and disappointing. I know I, for one, would not participate in this event again, even if you did change your mind one day about having it again. Not because of my experience throughout the event, which I loved, but because of this aftermath. |

I don't have much room to respond, being as I was the main advocate in trying to set this event up last year...and wasn't able to take part in it when it finally did run...however I will say a couple things before slipping back into character and bleeping shit up. 1 - Squishy - I don't envy your job. At all. Having to respond to upset people who are heavily emotionally invested, and often not 100% thinking properly...while you yourself having to remain professional, and often having these conversations with people you consider friends... I'm sure it can't be fun or easy. As has been stated, thank you for getting the prizes out to those who participated. Not sure why people are fussing over the time-frame really, given they took this long (if not longer??) the last PTB event as well. Anyway, thank you for that and for organizing the event. Regardless of the "official" "success" or otherwise as viewed on your end, if nothing else you can take solace in knowing that so many found entertainment in this event and that for some, it re-lit their urge to write. 2 - I agree with Daniella! A lot of people are far less interested in the prizes than seeing how they placed. |

But I get it now. I think I said this last night, but I hope that if someone decides to do this again on a district level and requests some support or something from you, you might consider it. You don't HAVE to, obviously. But things generally have a better chance of working if admin give a fuck about them on some level. |
