Look to the left | Look across the street | Look to the right

We believed your words, but now we see.
You just don't mean, a thing to me.
Your power reign was sick and wrong.
Your time is gone, your time is gone.
And we don't need ruin and lies.
Your touch is death, your heart despised.
Your time of reign and dark began.
Your time to change is at an end.

And they are chanting angrily. Truths that have a right to be heard. Interpretations that lack insight. Hollow foretellings and dark sentiment spills across the streets. Victors and victims hurling their perspective at the other - neither is wrong and neither is right. Never finding justice and honesty, but that’s the price for abandoning civilian life. Despite the promising outlook at the start of our lives, on this side of the law it’s more often night than day.

“They’re making a lot of noise.” The man holding his coffee says. Lego looks at him. The man is in his mid-fifties, slightly overweight and he’s wearing his moustache with pride.

“Isn’t that what Americans usually do?” Lego responds. The man looks at the kid. He’s in his late teenage years and underdressed for this time of the year. European by the looks of it as they always roll up their sleeves as soon as they step into the Californian sun.

“Having a voice is important.” Says the man after a moment of silence.

“Saying sensible things is more important.” Lego replies. “I understand why they are angry. But for our collective good we should focus on what matters and not just what angers us. Waking up to the news that my first boss, Gabriel, was murdered in cold blood during a meeting in Las Vegas is reason for anger. But what matters for the future is that people like me find another boss like Gabriel. He mattered when he was alive. But not so much when his son erupted in anger on these very streets.”

“You’re saying they should ignore the feelings of injustice brought to them?”

“No, not at all. But the more injustice finds it’s way on the street, the more important it is that we’re not just focussing on that, but are looking to rebuild what’s lost as well. Anger doesn’t rebuild a single thing, but just sends us spiralling down in a pit of negativity. This place doesn’t need recognition of problems, because they are evident. This place needs solutions and that requires people across the board to chip in. We need bold opinions and ideas being brought to these streets. Not emotionally loaded speeches, but constructive dialogues and plans that look ahead, instead of looking back”

“Like Disorder should die?” The man says jokingly.

“No, not like that at. People should erupt with innovation and ambition throughout their whole careers. When people are afraid of the Godfathers, they should show their true colours in a meaningful manner and expect to not live to an age where they become dangerous. But at least they know they'll live according to their identity, instead of hiding in fear or convenience. That’s no life. That’s a waste of time and effort, amounting to fuck all.”

As a lady being pushed by the angry mob falls backward, Lego catches her and helps her on her feet again.

“Likewise, the leaders should get of their convenient thrones and make use of their capabilities to bring progress to this place again. It’s always a cycle of building and collapsing. Now it’s time to build again, unless they really want to wait for the big battle between New York and Las Vegas. But if they’re confident in their relations, they should address the distrust and poor attitude that exists among families across the country.”

“Let’s solve our issues, instead of pretending they don’t exist. Leaders and members all realise the whole system is kinda on it’s ass right now. So kill the favour-system if it’s not viable anymore. Think of something new. If your hands are allowed to live this long because you fully trust them, give them operations to run across the country so they can be examples for the lacking masses who don’t dare to step up anymore after recent events. Erupt. Matter. Move. Say and do something meaningful. Dodging bullets and insults is a crap job for leaders. Burying your friends and parents becomes quite the annoyance as well. We don't have to ignore reality, but we shouldn't just stare at it either. We need a dialogue to move forward. We’re here to thrive. So let’s thrive.”

Disorder stands in the crowd. Tickled by the fact the main protagonist seems utterly oblivious to his presence, he listens to the various voices before slowly making his way to the front of the crowd. There are more than a few startled faces as they notice who has just stood up before them. The main speaker in particular looks as if this eventuality had never occurred to him. Disorder takes his time to look around the faces while he has a nip of rum from his flask.

"Hello folks."

A large portion of the front few rows look sheepishly at their feet, trying desperately to avoid eye contact.

"For fear of stating the obvious, attacking my headquarters isn't the most sensible idea. Although LegGodt here has provided you all with transport to go and do that. I would recommend thinking that notion through a little before racing into any life ending choices. For those of you who elect to remain behind, I'd suggest helping our young friend out and aiding him in his education. If you want you can help him understand the way these things play out and give his next of kin a better footing with which to make their way in the world."

Taking another sip from his flask, he slides it back into his inner jacket pocket and looks back at LegGodt.

"Good luck with your adventure. I hope you don't mind me providing these good people with the same kind of help you did."

"A fair hint, Godfather Disorder.

If a one-way ticket to the morgue is what I deserve, so be it. I take blame for laying out the options that people can take in this life. Personally I think it’s been clear which option I advocate. I seek progression away from the negativity and perhaps did so in a too bold manner. For me that’s now a learning moment. I progress.

My apologies for increasing a possible threat to your operation. I sincerely hope that people understand that many paths in this life lead to dead ends and that no damage is brought to your headquarters. If I’m given more time in this world and were I to find inspiration to address other matters, I’ll be more careful in my approach considering others as well.

Thank you for your reaction."

LegGodt, who now sleeps with the fishes, obviously demonstrated a severe lack of wisdom in making this error. While it should be obvious to anyone listening to the speech that LegGodt wasn't directly advocating that people attack the headquarters of Godfather Disorder, providing people with the transport to do so was a foolish act of disrespect.

LegGodt was trying to make a point about productive action versus wasted energy. Unfortunately for him, his error is judgment will no doubt overshadow his argument.

I firmly believe that these streets are a place for respectful free speech. As always, there's a line. Many peoples' words may dance on this line- but when one even hints toward direct attacks on a godfather, you're taking a flying, running jump and leaving the line far behind you.

Godfather Disorder, you have my sincerest apologies for this.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA disorder is pissed because someone laid out an option to destroy his HQ instead.

Yolanda walks around and decide to start stock piling on his dynamite.

Report Post Tip

Disorder if that is all you got out of LegGodts' speech , expect your HQ to be burnt to the ground.

Are there any leaders who can comprehend this magnificent speech?

Report Post Tip

I'm pretty confident that both Disorder and Kathryn comprehended it fully. Along with many other leaders. That doesn't change the fact that it still showed an error in judgment.

There are lines that shouldn't be shouldn't be crossed and more that simply can't. This crossed at least one of of those lines in a number of different ways. A view shared by others. Most importantly, a view clearly shared by those that mattered.

This could have been a clever and impactful speech for those that share similar views, had it been handled only slightly differently. You can, with a little care and wit, disagree with without fear of reprisal and with respect. It's a shame, but the mistake here isn't one from the leaders in question. It simply missed that mark.

Report Post Tip

Speak for yourself TsuDhoNimh. You do them no justice speaking FOR them.

The victims speech was in fact a clever one. And I would bank on it fear never entered their mind.

As a leader why don't you try to swallow some of this hard core truth and give us your take? I know this would take a bit of courage and a set of balls to deliver the truth but try.

Report Post Tip

I'd like to point out that this outcome wasn't my wish. I thought the speech itself was wonderfully constructed and showed a laudable level of creativity and talent. I never asked for the young man's head. Indeed it wasn't what I wanted. My reply to him here was simply to illustrate a point I was making in private conversation with him at the time.

Unfortunately I had to leave to attend to some business for a an hour or so and when I got back, Kathryn had taken it upon herself to execute the poor fellow. Certainly not what I wanted. My only problems with his speech boiled down to two things, firstly as has been mentioned, him providing transport for people to come and attack my building. Secondly and FAR more importantly, he never thought to speak to me before coming out here with it. If he had sent so much as one mail before hand, I dare say the outcome would have been entirely different.

As it is, I have issued instruction to Kathryn to inform his next of kin of this. And let me know they are here, that I may help them get a good start in their new life. If his children have half his talent they'll be an asset to the community.

Excuse me Denzel?

I'll think you find I did just speak for myself and not for anyone else. Saying that I'm confident they understood it is literally stating my view. Not theirs. Maybe you should listen to me a little closer next time?

I seem to have missed this "hard core truth" you champion so strongly, too. I'd disagree with much of what was said in the opening remarks. People not surviving and dying doesn't mean a system is failed, it means people failed. Correlation is not causation and stating something as a fact doesn't make it so.

Don Argyle in Philly showed us that others can succeed in the exact same system. Work is being done by oRagnar, MrDonnieVegas and Bjorn_Ragnarsson in Detroit under that same system working damn hard to make it work for them. Blaming the system for failures without looking at where those failures actually occurred is myopic and flawed. Same as it never entering their head that they might have been making a mistake in tackling a topic was myopic and flawed. A few slight differences and this could have been a great speech. Sadly, and I hate having to repeat myself here, it missed that mark when Don Kathryn felt it crossed her line of what's acceptable.

If people wish to see change, great! I'm all for our world continually changing and evolving. Heck, I'm personally trying to change all sorts about it on a daily basis. The more differing points of view we can get entering into these conversations with different experiences and different knowledge the better. I've no issues with change, with ideas or with suggestions. I just like them to be tackled with respect, intelligence and without the logical fallacies that so often accompany them.
