George's Depot Raid Started by: George_Costanza on May 19, '10 12:25

:Standing at his usual spot on a New York Street corner, chewing the fat with some associates, Geroge felt compelled to share yet another of of his more eventful criminal exploits:

So, I really thought that we had it down after that bank job.  I mean, we walked in and out with what we pleased and no one really even raised so much as an eyebrow.  We decided to try raiding a trucking depot next, but we were going to do it at night--a little safer, we figured, in that environment.  Those truck drivers are tough, and they all know each other.  And the owner, Clyde Cybrin, was a pretty tough guy, himself.

I have to admit, after those last two jobs, I figured that this one would be no sweat.  I mean, we didn't even really know what we were going after in there.  We could very well open 'em up and find trailer after trailer filled with cereal.  And Leela wouldn't let us forget it.  She kept joking that we'd come back with pockets full of yo-yos and jawbreakers.  But ya never know.  Best to vary your experiences, I suppose.

So we sent Henry in, to pretend that he wanted to hire some trucks, you know.  But really, he was there to steal the guy's keys, of course, for the next evening.  And he had a knack for that kind of thing, and THAT went off without a hitch, and I really started to get a bit cocky, you know?  I mean, we had the keys.  We would go back when everyone went home for the night and go shopping.

But what we did this time is we waited.  Henry thought that maybe the guy would get suspiscious that his keys went missing and maybe have an eye out for the for the next night or two.  So we waited for six weeks before we made our move.  That seemed to be more than enough.

So we showed up around 2:30 in the morning, then.  It was me, Henry_C_Vidi, and Bliss.  Leela was waiting in the car as a lookout.  What a sport, after all that making fun of us and all.  Opening the door, I looked back to see her adjusting the car's seat back so that she could recline out of view.  We entered the large, dark room, Bliss lit what was our only flashlight, and Henry closed and locked the door behind us.

The room suddenly seemed very small as our field of vision became limited.  We all lowered our heads towards the small pool of light on the concrete floor.  I could hear my friends breathing, invisibly, in the dark.

Bliss lifted the light's beam and scanned the far side of the room.  We could see four containers lining the far wall and, to their right, two doors.

"Alright," I said.  Let's open one of these suckers up.  "It's like a game.  Which one do we try first?"

"Let's start on the right," Henry said.  So we did.  Henry pried open the container and opened the door as quietly as possible, but still creaking like a bastard.

I winced at the sound as I stepped forward to look inside, where Bliss's light was now darting around.  I couldn't quite see what was in there, so I took a step up.  As my eyes adjusted, large boxes, marked "Marlboro," became visible.

"Well alright," I said, pleased.  "This looks good, eh, boys?  I think that NY's finest will enjoy these.  Let's leave this for now and check the next one."

We moved to the container to the left, and Henry attempted to pry it open in the same way.  This one required a bit more effort, though, and the door made a loud "bang" as it popped open.  Bliss looked around quickly, keeping the light on the container, but returned his eyes to the box again soon, curious.

As I stepped up into the box, I saw stacks of suitcases.  "Well, alright.  Not the best, but these are nice," I said, running my hand over the leather of one before opening it and revealing it's vacant interior.  "Beautifully made."  I opened one more and shook a few of the others, just to make sure they were all empty, before we moved on to the third box.

"Stereos?!"  Bliss exclaimed as the third door creaked open as easily as the first.  "Oh, check it out," he said, as he hopped up and began inspecting the rows of equipment.  "These are all the brand new models.  The C40's.  These are very valuable.  I can't wait to rub this in Leela's face.  She can't have any of these."  Henry and I jumped in as well to join him in his excitement and to check out the equipment for ourselves.  The black machines cast small smart reflections everywhere from the beam of his flashlight.  They really did look very expensive.

Suddenly, the door of the container slammed shut, and, as we ran towards where our exit had just disappeared and lowered our shoulders into the door, we heard the lock slide into place.

"For fuck's sake!"  I yelled out at our captors.  "You can't keep us in here forever!  What are you going to do?  What's your plan?"

"I'm calling the police."  A big voice calmly returned.  "Then you can ask THEM what THEY plan to do to you."

"But Clyde," I heard another voice answer, and the rest of his sentence was inaudible.  For several minutes, we heard them arguing back and forth, softly.

Henry laid near the small opening in the door and strained his ears.  "I think they're arguing over what to do with us," he said.  “I think the other fella’ wants to rob us.”

Just then, one of the men shouted, and we heard the loud bang of an explosion near where they were speaking.  They screamed, and we heard them run back behind our container and begin screaming obscenities.  They fired a few shots, sporadically, screaming all the while.  Just then, another explosion rocked our container near the rear, where we knew the two men were now hiding.  They started screaming again we could tell that they were running now as we followed the sounds of their screaming voices across the walls of our container.  Four gun shots rang out from near the door of the building, and then everything was silent.

A few seconds later, someone was jiggling at the handle, and the door opened to reveal our savior—Leela!

“Good show, my lady,” I said, hopping down and clapping her on the back.  “I knew you’d start to worry before long and send help in some way, but to take the place yourself?  What were those explosions?!”  The light was on in the depot, now, and I could see her smiling at us all, proud of herself.

            “Dynamite,” She said simply.

“Dynamite?!”  Bliss exclaimed, hopping down now, after Henry.  “Where the heck did you get that?!”

“It was just some little half sticks I had.  But they did the job, right?  Certainly scared the pants off of those goons.”

“Yeah, you really saved us there,” Henry said, thankfully.  “Now let’s open this last container, because the suspense has been killing me.”

We stepped over where the bodies of Clyde Cybrin and what appeared to be a security guard laid between the 3rd and 4th box.  They had fallen in unusual ways, shot down in full sprint.  Their limbs were splayed out as if their dead bodies had been tossed, and it appeared that a good chunk of Clyde’s calf had been taken out by the shrapnel from one of the explosions.  Henry spit on his chest as we passed over him.

This container’s door proved impenetrable for Henry’s crowbar.  Unlike the other container doors, it did not give any leeway to twist the doors and pop the lock.  “The keys,” he said, panting.  “Try the keys.”

I took out the stolen ring of keys and found the one that fit into the keyhole at the corner of the container’s door on about the sixth try.  As we opened the door, we all gasped as we saw a brand new Silver Ghost Rolls-Royce.  I grinned at them all, open-mouthed.

“We’ll give this to the boss,” I said.  “But I call dibs on driving it home.”

With the two dead, we took our time cleaning out the place.  We scrapped the plate and serial numbers, and Henry hooked a cab up to the truck full of stereos so we could just take the whole thing with us.  We figured it would be easier that way.  And we stuffed as many boxes of the cigarettes and suitcases in to the back of that truck too, and also filled both cars.

It wasn’t until nearly a week later that Bliss found the false-bottoms in the suitcases.  Each one held a kilo of coke, right under our noses.  It was a profitable find, but I kind of felt bad about it.  After all, I had to take back the one that I had given to my grandma and my sister, and a few that my mom gave to her friends.  Do you have any idea what it’s like to take a present back from your grandmother?

that is some pretty sloppy work....I mean when a robbery turns into a homicide? damn you know you messed up...But I say this with the utmost respect I probably would've been even sloppier!!

Mango walking around the city doing his usual business routing notices George post up on the corner to tell a story so he goes closer to listen to what he has to say.

"Very entertaining story you have George, I never thought you guys were going to pull it off until that crazy turn of events that was very much in your favor. And then what you guys all found later in those brief cases... good grab. Good thing your family didn't further inspect their presents you had given them haha, that would not have been a good sight."

:George nods:

Yes, fulmineo, I'll admit that we were a bit rash in our planning of this one.  But we were very lucky that Leela showed up when she did.  That's when you know you have a good friend--they're there even without you asking them to be.

Oh god, I almost forgot about this.. What a night! Good thing we brought Leela with us despite her making fun of our previous heists.. Nice haul as well, that was unexpected eh? I still have my C-40 and it sings like a bird... Can't wait to see what happens in the future, wouldn't be surprised if we end up in a similar situation haha..

Sounds like that was a fun raid...nothin gets your blood pumpin like a possible jail sentence

Leela grins.

Boys will be boys, you know. What would they do without a woman around to help them out? That night was fun, you know I always like to blow something up.  I mean those guys were feisty considering they were quick enough to lock the boys in the truck. I did not see that coming! Nor did I see the fact that there was gonna be coke in those suitcases. She whistles and shakes her head. Boy, that was a surprise.
