The sound of bare feet, sprinting on a paved sidewalk Started by: AnthonyBlack on Apr 02, '17 14:49

The boy tilts his head and offers another blank expression, still not making direct eye contact. His attention is captured by the window, shuffling over, he peers out into the city.

Wide eyed, he presses his nose against the glass.

Kathryn watched as the boy wandered off to the window.

"Or, you know. Neither. That's fine."

Kathryn walked over and sat by the bed to look out the window with him. She was a few feet away and maintained a respectful silence as he looked out. They were only on the third floor, but Kathryn tried to imagine it from less experienced eyes. She waited for who knows how long, letting him take his time watching, rarely making eye contact with him in the window's reflection.

Eventually, there was a knock on the door, which caused Kathryn to stand and unlock it. A large man walked in, at least 6'3 with broad shoulders and dirty blonde hair. He looks curiously at the boy for a moment before handing Kathryn a couple bags, which she empties. Clothes go on the bed: simple slacks, buttoned down shirts, undergarments, shoes. They looked like they'd fit, even if they were a little big. A few sandwiches went on the desk: turkey, ham, roast beef.

Kathryn motioned for Finn to hang back by the entrance, not wanting to freak the boy out. She sat on the corner of the bed.

"Got some clothes here for you, kiddo. And food."

Finn looked like he wanted to ask Kathryn a question, but he was silenced by a glare from his boss.

Anthony paid instant attention to the activity across the room. He sloped away from the window and watched Kathryn interact with another person. As the garments were presented to him, he crept closer and eventually inspected them intensely.

Dropping his robe, he started to pull the items on.

More bruises and scars are visible.

With only a pair of pants on and one shoe, his focus drifted to the food. He gathered up the sandwiches and retired to a corner of the room to eat. In between bites, his gaze met Kathryn again.

Kathryn watched him eat and spoke to Finn.

"Go bring a car around. We're headed to the airport- back to LA."

After he left, Kathryn leaned forward and rested her elbows on her knees.

"Don't suppose you've ever been on a plane, kiddo? Well, this is going to knock your socks off. Even if you aren't wearing any."

Kathryn sighed as she waited for Finn to return, content to watch the boy sample each of the sandwiches. The kid could certainly tuck it away. Hopefully he wouldn't get sick on the plane... or freak out. Kathryn furrowed her brow. Well, maybe a private flight would be more ideal.

The boy licked his fingers clean, before wiping the residue from his face and licking that up, too. He was startled by the sudden movement, however settled quickly and watched Kathryn, maintaining a glance at the door and any corners in the room. When the lady had finished talking, he picked himself up, touching gently on his arms and whimpering gently.

He stepped past her and picked up the rest of the clothes, dressing himself and fumbling the buttons on his shirt.

The boy approached Kathryn and held out his hand.

Kathryn felt a genuine smile- a rare authentic burst, rather than the smirk that was usually plastered there, spread across her face as she reached out and took the boy's hand. Standing, she led him out to the hallway. The car would be waiting for her, and the plane would speed them back to Los Angeles.

What would happen then? Kathryn would do her best. She'd try to set him up somewhere, perhaps her assistant Christine could watch him once the new office was completed. She'd provide as much support as she could, but in dealing with such a person she didn't want to act too assertively. Rather, she'd let the boy make the next move.

Although, as the door clicked behind her, she had no idea what that move would be.
