As I disembark my flight I pass through the airport and hail a cab to downtown, Walking down the streets looking around I hear echoes of the past war still fresh in the streets, as I turn down my usual corner to perform my usual transaction with my usual friend I see he is no longer there just what feels like his soul floating above his old turf, I begin to walk back down what was once a bustling street to hear the chit chat of the city. As I look around I notice no locals seem to be present for the usual banter. All these faces seem to be from out of town. Hailing my usual cab to get back to the what was once great hub of the market district and as the cab approached I could see nothing but empty vendor carts and people peering out the curtains behind closed windows. Seeing nothing resembling the city I once knew I asked cab driver to take me back to the airport. As I enter the airport and purchase a return ticket I say to the desk clerk, it's a shame to see people of the city in hiding because they fear their day to day lives, farmers to fish mongers and street sweepers all hiding in their homes at the sound of a car pulling up because they never know what's coming. The desk clerk states it's no I or people like me that they fear it is the corrupt agents that ha e the streets filled looking for anyone to shake down for financial gain. I said to the desk clerk I gotta get me one of them see if they can help me out in the department then. The desk clerk slides me my ticket home and on that ticket is a address of an agent who she says may be able to help me out with that dilemma. I thank the clerk for her assistance and bid her adieu. Off home I go. |
