He'd been asked to do many things over the years, this should be no different. He'd gotten started immediately, sent out a message to an old friend. She knew the code, the first day passed as he sat alone reading the paper. On the second day he ordered food just to be less conspicuous, she didn't show. The third day she was already there waiting for him all smiles and mystery. "How's things?" She'd started right in, ignoring his original message and its implications completely. I replied. "Fine, at least they were a few days ago. You know how this thing of ours is, maybe today things aren't so fine. It's been three days." She'd laughed at that, giggled was more like it. She said "You know as well as I do we are all just this side of a pine box. Things change everyday. Even when things seem okay, old tensions still fester." So, she knew what he was on about. "Well if you know what concerns me, why not just put those concerns to rest?" She looked patronizing when she spoke. "Don't sweat the small things Sam, my advice to you is to enjoy the time you have left, while you still have it." With that she grinned, stood up, put on her sunglasses, and walked away. It was good advice for anybody. He just didn't like the way she said it. |
