| Unverified email accounts and HQ jobs | Started by: Gravity on Apr 07, '17 15:36 |

I've never really paid more attention to this, but since I have become a Crew leader, I have noticed how many unverified email accounts actually do jobs that are paid for by the family. In addition to this, I have had my sponser abilities turned off because I did not mail one of these unverified email accounts. The majority of these unverified email accounts go on to get a Dishonorable Discharge anyway, so I bring forth the suggestion that player accounts are not able to do jobs until their account has a verified email, thus lessening the money that is lost by families and prevents sponser abilities to be turned off by these UE accounts. Any form of feedback is welcomed. |

See no reason why this shouldn't be changed, it also would help prevent Sponsorship abilities from being turned off without need and potentially shorten the length of Rebuild mode. |

I like Gravity's idea. Or even have them do jobs, but take it out of some 'job fund' that is set up by the admins, and repaid by CLs if the person joins their crew and verifies their email. That way the crew isn't just hemorrhaging money. |

Much of the discussion around this one happened on IRC, so for the sake of those that weren't present, I'll throw down a few of the issues here to enable ongoing discussion of it outside of the IRC chats that were had.
The reality is that for the game to grow going forward more of these UEs need to be converted, not less. If CLs aren't willing to take a negligible hit on the cost of a jobs listing to be part of that process, it has knock-on impacts for the viability of advertising or future investments in the game. Some will claim "that's not our responsibility as players". Fair enough. You're wrong, we all have a vested interest in the success of the game, but some people just want to watch the world burn so I wouldn't try and twist their arms to the contrary. However any ideas that admins should help with moves in that direction I'd personally disagree with and having seen Izzy's thoughts on the topic, it's a fairly resounding case that he disagrees too. |

I think this is decent suggestion - some modification is needed. I take the point that 'newbies' may not be aware of the process but really it is not that difficult at all. Maybe a compromise - a warning to the unverified email account with instructions and a time frame and I do think a 'pot' to compensate for those unable or unwilling to do things as this world dictates would be helpful. It has been a long time now since I started with my email account here so it might be a communication already happens in this regard? It appears another discussion has taken place to the exclusion of many users on IRC - I do think these forums are the best place to allow all to add their voice whether they agree or otherwise. |

One of the problems is we don't get the alert about somoene doing our job until job three... I think. Im like 90% sure. Unless Im so hungover Im making shit up now.
But maybe have it alert us after the first job, get the contact going sooner. At least with UE emails. I dunno. |

That's a good call Gracie, get notified on job one then you can start the discussions to either get them to verify the email address if genuine or with a bit of judgement it should be fairly obvious from chatting the dodgy ones out there too...so you could prevent further jobs from being offered to them... |

Wouldn't this post and the subsequent issues mentioned by TsuDhoNihm as having been raised during an IRC debate (boo-hiss) be resolved by this:
