Lectori Salutem Started by: Exupery on Apr 15, '17 00:25

“Hail to the reader, lectori salutem, disconnected as ever.” Exupery whispered as he closed the book with manifests. There is no love-letter that can overtake a kiss. There is no threat that can beat the delivery of death and no written intent matches today as it is. Thoughts lingering in his mind as he set off to walk into the Chicago cold.

“Leaving us for the night, mister Exupery?” The librarian said.

“Yes, Emily. The day is old and the night is young. Reading is valuable, but at some time we have to live our own story instead of learning about that of others. You take care now. I see you tomorrow.”

Exupery thought about writing again. He thought about the desert, about roses and foxes. About flying. Clouds floating past, carrying the hopes and dreams of people. Thrusting through them, leaving behind all that is to be left behind. Until he bumped into the little man.

“Hello sir.” The boy said.

“Hello boy. Isn’t it a bit late for you to be on the streets by yourself?” Exupery asked.
“Isn’t it for you?” The boy returned.
“Perhaps, but I’m an adult.”
“I’ve seen adults up close. My parents are adults even. I spent a lot of time of time with them. It hasn’t much improved my opinion of adults and their reasoning.” The boy said.
“Why is that?” Exupery asked, scouting around to see if the boy’s parents were around.

“Because they all seem so confident, but none of them are really satisfied about where they are. But they don’t know what they want. Only the children know what they are looking for.”

“Maybe the adults already found what they are looking for?” Exupery said.

“What is it they looked for?” The boy asked. “What is it they found? What satisfied them? The adults I know, they accept what is given, instead of reaching for what they want. They read, instead of write. Lectori salutem is their motto.”

PeteMitchell was going for a late night walk, as he often did. He found when the streets were quiet was a great time for him to clear his head and ponder some of the things that were on his mind.

As he walked along wondering what would happen next in this crazy life of his he heard a familiar voice around a corner up ahead, and another voice he didn't recognize. The second voice sounded like a young boy. He kept walking and as he got closer he realized the voice he recognized was Exupery, another member Robotics. The boy sounded wise beyond his years, he made a valid point.

"Hey Exupery hows it going? And who is your friend? I must say I agree with his last comments. It seems too often from my experiences people just accept what they are given. If you have friends in high places good for you, you will probably do well, if you don't.. well goodluck. Unless you decide to make friends, work hard, and prove your worth to people in high places.

I think if more people didn't just accept that they are where they are in life you would see more people manage to go from nobody to somebody. Some people come from bloodlines that make them known almost immediately upon arriving, but someone in their family started from scratch at some point, worked hard, got noticed and made friendships that will last for generations.

This young boy has reminded me why I got into this life, I don't want to be one of those people who are satisfied with whats given to them. I want to earn more.

Pete kind of felt like he was rambling at this point and slightly off topic maybe, so he figured it was time to keep walking.

"Anyways have a good night and be safe!"

And with that Pete kept walking to further consider the conversation he had just overheard and his thoughts on all of it.
