Ambition or Loyalty Started by: Cathy_Parks on Dec 22, '07 00:42
Cathy Parks walks along the strip with a group of The RFC behind her, their eyes bright with the excitment of recent events. Even though The Red Fez Compound was still under construction, she felt the need to take some fresh air, and a look around the Streets. A tour of Philadelphia had been on the cards for quite some time.

She signals to her people to stop, before pausing to light a cigarette at the same time noticing some onlookers. At this time she feels that now would be as good of as any to make her first real speech as a Leader. Before she begins however, she knows that there is something that has been playing on her mind for the past few days, and so broaches the topic, if not a little pensively.

"I understand that in most cases, a decision to take up the Bold mantle and move into a position that commands power is one that many would not even hesitate to undertake. It is quite a rare honour to have the opportunity to make a difference in this world from the stand point of a Leader.

"However, what many of us forget whilst taking those bold steps forwards, is what we are then leaving behind. For me, it was not an easy decision to make. You see, the strongest part of my nature is loyalty - loyalty to those who show me kindness and trust. After the sudden and misfortunate death of Cthulhu, I found myself working alongside a man for whom I feel the word 'respect' does not do justice and one whom I could call 'amico'.

"I swore an oath to follow the Coda of his Famiglia, to work for him and to help with plans for The Big Apple. So when the phonecall came for me to run my own Business out of Philadelphia, it was not a sudden nor resounding 'yes' that followed. Yes, I felt the pull of ambition, but equally I struggled because of my loyalty to Signore Giaquinto.

"Eventually I made my decision, and I will do my best to make sure that it was the right one. However what I come here to discuss is a hypothetical.

"Should you be given the chance for a shot at a life in bold. Would it be so easy for you to say yes, or would you also struggle with your ties to your current family?"

Ms. Parks, I understand your reasoning here.

pssh, you don't understand anything.

... VOICE SHUT UP I'M TRYING TO SOUND INTELLIGENT HERE DAMN IT!

Fine.. I'll let you pretend... for now...

As I was saying... My great grandfather's dream was to work along side Mr. McTavish and my father's, neither one got to live their dream. But here I am, living a dream that's been passed down for three generations, and loving every minute of it. Would I give this up for a bold suit? It would depend really.

I can do a lot of good where I am, helping the members of Badass Inc. Mr. McTavish is doing a stand up job with this already, so what would make me feel like leaving? I guess the only reason for me to leave would be if I thought I could have an even bigger impression on this thing of ours in bold. Helping members is one thing, but influencing the way this thing of ours is run, that's entirely different.

Another thing to take into consideration is the dedication it takes to really put that bold suit to work. You can have a crew and not be a crewleader, many have proven that. It takes hard work and dedication to really put that suit to good use. You have to be at your desk for a long time, so you can be first on the know when anything big happens. Sure, a good Right hand will be helpful with this, but nothing can replace a dedicated Crewleader.

I guess that's all I have to bring to this conversation.

I see it this way...

When a person remains with the family, that is loyalty without ambition.

When a person goes rogue, that is ambition without loyalty.

When a person is granted permission to go bold by their leader, that is ambition and loyalty working together.

If you are truly loyal, and your boss wants you to go out on your own, you do it. After all, it's what he or she wants. Am I right?

"I would agree with you Signore.. Tober is it? However, in a lot of scenarios the Leader whose family you come from may not be entirely happy with your leaving. However, such an opportunity like this makes it almost impossible for said Leader to veto the decision.

"Perhaps I'm reading too much into it - I am a woman after all, it's what we do best - but you on the one hand you can argue that by taking the auth with the blessing of your leader still remains within the confines of loyalty, it can equally be argued that your leader has no choice but to let you go."

I understand how hard it is to leave something you have put your work .. no your trust ... no your life into and have to leave. I felt it myself but sometimes it has to happen I understand how much you felt for the family and i know that will never leave you.

Ooohhh Cathy why, why have you become independent and strong so fast. I remember the days that Sal was on road for important family business and I came home after a really bad drugs run. Chef was not in the Social Club, apparently one of his girlfriends was in need of assistance. You saw me almost ready to "redecorate" the HQ.

You calmed me down and listened to my story of the day. You took away my anger and gave me direction. And you used humor to make me understand what I had done wrong.

We are going to miss your leadership and your strength. I wish you all the best in Philly. And if you ever need someone to redecorate your new HQ, give me a ring.

Madame Parks, before any leader gives his or her blessing for one of the faithful to branch out on their own, they must be absolutely certain that it is the right decision. Any leader who would give this final order with any hesitance does not deserve the bold suit himself. It is, I would argue, the second-most important decision a leader can make--the most, of course, being to pursue a course of war against another family.

If your Boss has given you his permission, you can assume that he has considered it thoroughly, and has decided that this is the best course of action. If he really doesn't want to see you leave, all he has to do is say "no." Two simple letters.
