I stand here in a toga. Started by: Cato on May 05, '17 03:49

People approach me all the time. They see the toga, the scrolls, and the mane of chest hair and they say "hey, you're Marcus Cato right?" My legend had preceded me, as usual. But that legend is one of virtue, ethics, and steadfastness of conscience. What is a guy like that doing in the Mafia? They'll say shit like that. To my face. "Why is a good guy like you in the Mafia?"

Adjusting his toga, he takes a seat to explain.

Listen here you little shit, the Mafia isn't just bad people. When we're born into this life, we get two choices. The first is simple; will you push or be pushed. And take a fucking look around, New York isn't the place for people who get pushed. Well, perhaps Manhattan was. But in Brooklyn we do the pushing. And we push hard.

The second question dictates the path of your ambitions: business, politics, or crime. They used to say you can get all the money you want if you go into business. They used to say you can wield immense power if you go into politics. They used to say you could get all the women you want if you run the rackets. The Mafia is for people who look at the road before them and say, "Why not all three?"

Losing his audience, he tries to refocus. His thick Italian accent had begun to blend with a New York accent, causing much of his message to fall into incomprehensible mumbling.

There's good and bad businessmen. Politicians. Criminals. It's how each system stays afloat- the balance between good and bad. That's why Brooklyn needs me. I'm not gonna pretend I'm some light at the end of a tunnel- I've seen my fair share of dead bodies.

Taking a brief moment of silence, he recounts the events of the night before stacking bodies at the Philly docks.

But the virtue you can find in Our Thing, buried among all the vice (and boy is it a lot of vice), must have a voice. Not fairness or justice, for you'll find none. Loyalty. Order. Honor. These are the virtues of the Mafia. And that is why I am here in my god damn toga. So all the young ambitious cunts thinking they can move up in Brooklyn get a good look at what a man in the Mafia can be. It's not about fitting in or standing out, it's about knowing what you believe in and sticking to it.

After I'm dead, I'd rather have people ask why I have no monument than why I have one.

Alberto clapped after Cato's great speech. He nodded whilst clapping. In despite of his gender, he was pretty good at multitasking. AlbertoTomba was rather jealous of Cato's toga. He wore a skiing helmet himself and that was rather inconvenient at times.

I am happy to be part of the team that houses a person that will get a statue erected! He yelled, whilst standing up and still clapping
