Influence-governed Streets Started by: LG on May 07, '17 10:18

I've spent a few minutes browsing through the Streets just catching up on the current rules or features imposed by the powers that are currently in place.

I would propose, using some clever Forum VIP based system, rank, age or even monetary spend, that threads can be sticky-ed by those at the top (or willing to pay, if we go that way) in the Streets forum. The Protection Orders, the war explanations, city rules (Detroit, for example) could all demand the most attention by being at the top of the streets.

Length of time they appear 'stuck' could be managed by the system in place, or the amount paid.

A review based system by street sweepers could ensure that the content is necessary to appear at the top, though this may be made redundant by whatever system in place to decide who sticks threads. Some kind of cap on the number of threads might also be sensible. I don't think we should open it up to just Crew Leaders, either. It should be a privilege extended to those who pay/meet forum activity criteria/meet rank or age requirements (or a mix of all?).

When the person dies, obviously, their influence on the streets is lost too.

From a role play perspective, it would make sense that a person who has considerable influence on the shape of the country would have their content widely viewed and have an impact on what is seen and heard.

This doesn't rule out other peoples opinions, either, just drops them down a few threads.

Needs some polishing, and I'm sure I can put some thought into the mechanics, however be good to gauge opinions first.

I think this would be really nice, especially for newer players who don't know the ropes yet.

Hell it took me 3 or 4 months to figure out the rp threads were actually important to read
Report Post Tip

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. If there's important things that need to be read in the streets, associates and members should be reading this on their own, or at the very least be getting directed there by their upper structure. I don't agree with a game mechanic being implemented for this as it takes even more responsibility and accountability away from those in power.

Want your people to read stuff? Quiz them. Not sure if they're aware of the protection order? Well why the fuck not...are you not informing people this is a thing as they progress in your family? Keep getting questions about the "random" things in some cities[DT at the moment for instance,] well, that's simple too...direct them to the streets.

This is all so very much doable if people just fucking got good and stepped up their game. I'd just hate to see the admins spend so much time and effort on something that is 100% within the users hands to efficiently do themselves, yknow?

Report Post Tip

It's all very well and good saying that this should be managed by the crew leader, however not everyone has that amount of time.

Is the responsibility of ensuring that the message is out there not enough? Do we need to babysit everyone, or should we allow for some mechanic to ease both the pressure on crew leaders and offer support to new players?

Leading a crew has no lack of responsibility, there is literally always something for them to do, if they are committed to the role. To fully commit to the role would be a full time job, and I know I can't offer that. People are always complaining about the standard of crew leaders. Why not offer the slightest change to support them, new players and offer a little bit of a reward for putting in those hours and earning a top spot.

It would serve as a helpful place for those who have not been around to catch up on what is current, too.

Not everyone is an amazing super-player that has time to read everything and know how important up to date information is. Maybe we would see standards increase through little changes like this.

Report Post Tip

I can't say as if that changes my opinion at all honestly. Aye, while not everyone has the time to read everything, and being a proper leader is indeed a full time job...that's why there are these people called Right Hand and Left Hand Man.

If combined between the three they can't manage this simple, simple task of directing people to IMPORTANT INFORMATION then hot damn okay, I can... not accept that, really, but I do have another solution that is again very easily accomplished without extra effort on the administration. It's this wonderful management tool called delegation. Use the people in your crew to do some of your work for you, it's literally why they're there!!

We have the ability to easily do all of this, mate. I can't accept this change because leaders for the most part are abysmal as is, allowing their jobs to be easier mechanically for something this easy to handle on a player level would be...horrid.

Am interested to see how others feel though.

[On a side note this literally almost is in place man...you want attention on a thread? Reply to it...bet it brings it to the top...]

Report Post Tip

I couldn't agree with Henri more on this. I would be utterly disappointed to see such measures brought in. Being a Crew Leader isn't a difficult task if you do it right. Delegation and time management, two simple key factors. Plus actually either having a lot of game knowledge from experience or having that experience around you in the form of your right or left hand.

If you can't do the above, you should re-think the desire to be a leader. (not you personally LG, but those others in said hyptothetical situation)

Report Post Tip

I have to disagree with this.

Considering currently so many people are dying just because the top dog can do it.. I really don't like the idea of them constantly being at the top of the streets. If their thread dies then it dies.

I have to agree with Henri, have people actually pay attention or direct them to where the information is. If it is that important there are ways to do this. Hell even a thread in your HQ that can link to the important information in the streets. It's all very doable.

Yes, standards have slipped. Yes we all get bored at some point or another, but please let's not get lazy.

Report Post Tip

My inspiration has always been Role Play driven, so the points that you're raising are probably very valid in your mind, however my mind works a little differently. RP-y. I saw it as a way to reward effort with visual power, to have something physical to show you have reached one of the peak positions.

Currently that is only represented by age, gun, rank... Etc. Nothing that really makes an impression on the game for others to see. You can fill up the graveyards and create thread after thread, but what is there really which is a display of your achievement, at a glance? The only other thing that does that is your name appearing boldly at the top of the list.

When I thought this up it was with the idea of offering a element of control that can be on display, to be ever present regardless of if you're online or not. It doesn't have to be limited to useful information or things people should be reading anyway, but for whatever purpose the controlling faction decides. That way, it's just another creative tool at our disposal.

I do understand your concerns about what people 'should' be doing, but if you think outside the box at what it could be used for, it has an appeal. I notice nobody is concerned that a person could role play a statue of themselves being erected and stuck to the top of the streets. That's because, as moronic as that would be, it'd be interesting. It would represent what that person in power is about and tells me more about their approach than "don't shoot these people for 7 days."

And it's not limited to that. You could put anything up there, anything that will last as long as you do, that will inform new people and returning players or keep the regulars interested.

Maybe I'm just letting creativity run away with itself.

Report Post Tip

I completely understand what you are saying LG. However, when you barely have anyone that can compete for those top spots with a regular culling. It raises more negatives then it does positives.

I think people should try to create something they want to be remembered for, not really have some thread about a statue or what have you at the top for a long period of time.

I'd see it being something if there was more of a competition for it. But there really isn't. For the most part it would be used for things that people shouldn't be so lazy about finding themselves. Often we come across far too much hand holding and it'd be nice to raise the standards where if you are say a hitter (this is just an example) then you've been taught to watch the protection order threads, rather than having them constantly given through mass mails etc.

Whatever role you choose to play in this community, you should put the work in. You want to role play and be seen at the top of the list? Then keep on posting.

In some ways I agree with you River but they work hard for there spots. Lets say that after been dead for 30 days they lose that spot. Give them a chance to get some threads back up. I'm not great on threads but we all need to learn. Not all Crew Leaders take time to teach the ropes on RPing. So maybe if some knows how to  have classes , teach other people how do them.

I be willing to learn how do the RPing better then I doing it now lol.

Report Post Tip

'So maybe if some knows how to  have classes "

So maybe if some knows how are willing to have classes . ( that what should said)

Report Post Tip

Working hard for their spots is a term that is not exact. It varies on the person giving auth and so many other factors. Some get lucky, others not so much.

(Before anyone jumps down my throat.. I am speaking in general of CLs. Not of specific ones, but of it as a whole past, present and future).
