| Realism - Money and drugs | Started by: Kuku- on May 09, '17 16:43 |

So, I've played this game for a long, long time and a couple of things have kinda annoyed me. Money One... The money is unrealistic. Divide it by ten. At least. A million should be very hard to make, very, very hard. Maybe even drop the worth of a dollar to 5% or even 1% Drugs Drugs weren't really big in the 30s, there was cocaine and heroin style products, but they were quasi legal. Why not make this a prohibition era platform with different types of booze instead of drugs and stills instead of DFP. What do you think, Squishy me old mate? Easy to code and would make things a bit more "real"? |

I like this just not sure how you would have enough different types of liquor. Also the price difference between say beer and whisky? Maybe do a difference between bottles and barrels or kegs? Agree with the money side. Especially when mugging I've seen people mugged for millions which isn't very realistic in the 1930's. One thing I would like to see is the ability to hijack an OC. Just a fledgling idea so would be good to hear peoples thoughts. |

I like the idea of getting rid of the drugs and replacing them with liquor. It is way more realistic to my opinion and there was this time a couple of months ago that someguy in my crew decided to take a break only because of this certain detail. And about the money , I doubt there was this much money around in the 1930's tbh. Need to make it a bit harder but it's also good as it is so it doesn't really matter.

Would you not have to change all the stats on almost everything in the game in order to even do that? I don't like the idea, if its not broke don't fix it. It may not be part of the 1930s but honestly this game would not be as fun if it takes days to weeks to get a million. So many things would need to change in order to have the money change. |

Changing the money may make things seem more realistic, but it would have no real actual gameplay impact. If money values were to drop, then so too would cost. So what really would be the point? I think we can all live with knowing that we aren't really in 1930s, we are playing a game and when doing so there are always going to be certain aspects that are simply there to help enjoy it and dont lend to the authenticity of the era. Like bodyguards. Who would have 175 of them standing around them, yet still be killed with 1 shot? I could go on with a variety of other aspects that dont hold true to the era, but are essential for the gameplay to be enjoyable. |

There are some things that are intentionally kept semi-unrealistic, simply for playability. As Woodpecker noted on (and is I belive the general overall opinion, though we'll never know until this gets more replies,) a lot of people like the "thrill" of being able to make a million or more in a day. |

| I think liquor would be better than drugs as I agree drugs doesn't make much sense. | |

The average income in the 1930's was about 1,400 a year I think. And the title Godfather ( I believe this word was created by Francis Ford Coppola) was not around in the 1930s it was the boss of bosses, then his Consigliere ( who was his counsel.), then his Dons ( usually were his bosses lhm or CL of rhm to and lhm to CL), Capos , made man( soldiers), associates.
Also the value of the dollar was on a decline, hence the great depression. No one made 1 million in a day back then.
You want to make it more realistic then if you work outside your city you should be sending the boss of that city a kick back. In the 1930s gangster scene if you did not you were swimming with the fishes. And maybe if you want a bit more 1930s authenticity people should role play more 1930s style as in the language used and the actual events happening , maybe the start of the unions which I believe someone tied with the working mans milk.
And the cities were all mafia but some were Italian, some were Irish. They did intermix, although in the Italian mafia if you could not trace you lineage back to the old country ( Sicily) you could not be made, same with the Irish mafia if you could not trace your lineage back to the old country (Ireland) you could not be made.
The real question is how real to the 1930s does the games player base want to play? A lot of these can be changed by the players if they all worked together for the same goals. |

Drugs were frowned upon and most had rules against selling drugs if I remember correctly, so I'm for swapping to booze. But the econ situation I feel is best left to having a more modern feel for the dollar. I feel it's more appealing to the new players to have that extra decimal slot. ItsyBitsy they did not intermix races ever afaik. Irish mob was the Irish mob, mafia was Italian only. |

I think it would be refreshing for a city to declare itself the Irish mob rather than Italian. Squishy, there's a reasonable interest in replacing drugs with booze... And DFP as stills/speakeasies. What do you say dude? |

Kuku, its going to take more than 1% of the userbase saying they are for it, and very few people against it before it can be done. I would need to see more overwhelming support. |

I like this idea. Switching drugs for alcohol would change the whole feel to the game, prohibition era and such. But just a slight problem. The business district mostly consists of bars and alcohol serving businesses, wouldn't that effect the business district? |
