Stepping out into the streets, Harold lights up a joint and looks at all the people passing him, he thinks for a while. None of these people know about the secret Life of La Cosa nostra, they walk through life not knowing what's on the other side of the law. Now Harold doesn't do crime for the money, or the name, it's the thrill that keeps him coming back, the thrill of living so close to the edge that you can see the devil waving you down. Wanting to take your soul and hold it to his chest, not letting go, but look on the bright side of hell, everyone you've shared the spoils of crime with will be there, those that you held close, those that fired Thier guns at your enemies, those that dropped bodies in your name, they'll all meet you down there. Harold takes a huge puff on his joint and keeps looking at all the normal people walking, not even knowing there are criminals amongst them. "Ladies and gentlemen, i come to these cold streets today to ask a simple question. Why? Why do you indulge in criminal activities, for the money? Women? Or the name that comes with it? Now we all know going legitimate is not a thing in our life, so, what's the end goal? A terrific blaze of glory when your enemies stand before you waiting to hand you over to the devil? A act of righteousness that grants you entry through the pearly gates? What is it?" He continues smoking his joint, catching the looks of all the normal people, knowing his question was not for them he ignored them, even flicking his ash onto ones hat, no, he's question was for the criminals that make up la Cosa Nostra... |

X was sitting in a long lost city street as he saw Harold walking and talking to himself, maybe he was drunk or just high on some fucked up drug, but X standed up and stopped him so that he wouldn't fall. "Hey mate, you think anyone does it for money? You're all just adrenaline junkies i assume, with a juice want of power in between those fucked up thoughts." He handed him a joint he was smoking and added "Don't be a pussy and smoke that shit, you'll feel better." |

When we come into this world, we're born crying, naked, and helpless. We spend years in the care of our parents or guardians. The scope of our influence, our command, widens tremendously. We go from having virtually no control over even ourselves to managing our lives as adults. The Mafia takes that journey one step further. As a Thug or Gangster, you are at the mercy of your boss and those around you. In the absence of your boss's protection, even those who like you could come knocking on your door for that sweet notch on the gun. You move up to Wise Guy, and for the most part it still feels the same. You aren't in control, you're following orders, and you're earning money for the family. You may become a sponsor, which offers you the ability to bring another poor fucker into your HQ, but you're still pretty low on the totem pole. Then you're Made. You progress to Capo. Boss. Consigliere. And now you're being considered to run a crew of your own. Or a district of your own. Or a city of your own. In the span of months, it feels like you've gone from a helpless babe to a puppeteer. You pull strings, and money changes hands. You pull strings, and people get crews of their own. You pull strings, and people die. The feeling of having total control over yourself is something you cannot get as a law-abiding citizen. Owning a business is nothing like running an underground operation. The police will always come knocking on your door to keep you in order. But the Mafia, that's where you find real freedom. But it's not easy. And it's not cheap. |
