The Woodpecker in Manhattan Started by: Disorder on May 19, '17 22:56

The city of New York had been a hive of industry in the week since FCUM moved in. Large swathes of businesses were back paying their due. The cops were doing their job properly and turning a blind eye to the routine robberies from the paid-off docks. The mayor was ensuring contracts went to the right people and the union delegates were ensuring the right workers were on the jobs. Everything was getting in line and the river of money flowing from the city was just getting deeper.

Disorder was spending a lot of time in town helping things settle and enjoying the splendid hospitality laid on by Frankie4Fingers, StripheGotti and co. As their operations were extremely busy in the central district of Brooklyn, Disorder wanted to see development of the upmarket side of town. Manhattan had always been the high life of the city, with its premium properties, high class hotels and restaurants, it was a district that needed to shine. It needed hands to ensure the wealthiest of visitors had the most luxurious stay and left the most money when they went.

Disorder pulled up outside the large Manhattan building. It was a tall, handsome brick building. It's strong architecture dominated the park-facing street it was on. Above the door was a lovely new sign. Discrete but strong. The old Godfather smiled at it as he walked up the steps and into the new building. In the new crew lounge he met Woodpecker at the bar and the two men shared a private drink before the festivities began. As their conversation rounded up he looked at the young leader.

"You ready for this?"

'I'm really excited!' Woody replies with his eyes alight.

"Ok then, lets go make it happen."

They sank the rest of their drinks, banging the glasses down on the bar and marched out onto the top step of the building to meet the expectant crowd. Disorder waved a big arm and the crowd quieted down.

"Good evening one and all. Today is a splendid day for the fine district of Manhattan. The diamond tiara on the head of Lady Liberty, will once again be given guidance and a real hand of direction by a good crook with a lot to prove. Woodpecker has served Godfather Lillith in Las Vegas, faithfully for some time now. He has shown great dedication and drive in helping her as much as possible. His ambition has been well placed and respectfully presented. I'm personally very interested to see how he gets on here and what he can bring to this glamorous district. So, ladies and gentlemen..."

He motioned to the sign above the door and the light flicked on to illuminate the new sign.

He embraced Woodpecker and turned to face the crowd again.

"Now, please join me in a round of applause for the new leader. I'm sure he'd like to say a few words."

Woodpecker starts to get up out of his seat to stand up on stage to give a speech but once standing he feels a rush of something he has not felt before. He has been waiting for this moment for a long time, longer than he cares to admit. He sits back down to catch is breath, grabs an empty glass and pours some Whiskey into it:

"Good Afternoon everyone..." Woodpecker grabs his glass and takes a big gulp from his glass.

"I am quite speechless but I will try to find some words to this amazing accomplishment..." He takes a big breath in and out.

He gets up on stage and scans the crowd who are waiting to see what he has to say...

"I would like to introduce myself, many of you probably don't know who I am, as I tended to stick to the shadows and do my usual business which was nice to do alone but that is all changing now. My name is Woodpecker and I look forward to getting to know each of you better. If anyone wants to start up a conversation please do, I don't mind chatting, I have kept to myself to long."

Woodpecker tries to figure something else to say but gets choked up realizing what he has accomplished...

"I would like to thank Godfathers Disorder and Lillith for this opportunity. As well as the many others who have helped me out with advice."

He then finishes his glass and steps off stage...gets back to his seat and continues drinking...

"Everyone rounds on me, drink up and have a good afternoon"
