EDGE OF JAPAN

Bespoke Tailors

"One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art." - Oscar Wilde.

"If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor." - Albert Einstein.

"The finest clothing made is a person's skin, but, of course, society demands something more than this." - Mark Twain.

A service priding itself on discretion, exclusivity and craftsmanship.

As you walk into the establishment a little bell jingles and you are met a very cosy, ornate little room. An assortment of tailoring materials and tools are scattered haphazardly over the beautiful ebony-wooded work surfaces. A stocky oriental looks up from what he is doing and greets you with a smile. You suddenly notice he is dressed in nothing but a brilliant-white, Japanese loin cloth, covering the essentials. You are about to look away but find yourself admiring the intricacy and detail of the man’s beautiful full body tattoos that he is sporting front and back, that you mistakenly took for as clothes as soon as you walked in.

Shaking your hand strongly he introduces himself
“Hello my name is Onikage and you are most welcome to this establishment.”, he grabs a nearby book, sets it down and starts to flick slowly through its pages for you to see…

"Now...let me tell you Sir.” He whispers while setting down a small measure of whisky in a crystal tumbler. “This service begins with this initial consultation. I provide the private tailoring here at Edge of Japan. You should discuss your personal style preferences, perhaps a bit about your lifestyle, so I can get a feel for what you like and thus your requirements for the suit. Once a garment’s style has been selected, I’ll choose a select blend of fabric from one of the hundreds of fabrics available, but more often than not the customer…”, Onikage pauses and points at you, “…allows my good self to fully take charge of the masterpiece from start to finish?” Onikage pushes the tumbler over to you with a friendly smile. “ If tailoring is why you’re here then it really would be an honour to personally manage the commission from start to finish for you.”

Oni takes a slug of his own tumbler downing the small shot whole. “I’ve already taken a mental assessment of the variety of measurements across your profile and it should be a superb fit. If you have a paticular personal preference; if you favour a slightly more streamlined or closer garment, or indeed the opposite, this of course will be taken into account and the designs adjusted.
Usually after a few days I will courier your suit by federal post to you so you can try it for your fitting and can experience the suit you commissioned, this postal service is at no extra cost. I will of course to make any further adjustments as required to ensure that the suit doesn't leave Edge of Japan until it is absolutely perfect. Our handmade bespoke suits are constructed in cities around the country and arguably becoming the most respected tailoring house in the United States."

Okikage reaches over and sets a grey business card embossed with neat, gold text. It reads:-

"Take your time, have a think about it, mail me later if you prefer...", Onikage holds up the bottle of whiskey motioning the desire to refil your crystal tumbler "you would of course also be more than welcome to stay a while too?"
