"Can you still hear it?"

DRIP

"Go to hell"

"The water pattering down onto his corpse?"

DRIP DRIP

"You fu-"

"You may hang up at any time if you so desire Mr. Grant....of course you won't, because you want something from me. Something I will indeed give to you, but please first listen to my ramblings. I just want to make sure you remember all of the details..."

DRIP DRIP DRIP

I can still hear it. The water dripping onto his corpse where I found him. Dead. In his shower. In his extravagant home in St. Louis. A bullet lodged in his chest.

I can still hear it. The sound of my voice, hoarse from sheer shock. Talking. Telling the operator to send police. No, an ambulance wasn't needed. Not now.

12:43 pm. He must've just finished working in his garden. It was pretty hot out that day. He always liked to have a shower after working hard. And with the size of that jungle he called a garden, that sure was some work he did. He always amazed me with how strong he was. You wouldn't think it by looking at him, he was a rather puny man, but his incredible determination got him through everything...

Through everything?

DRIP DRIP DRIP DRIP

My tears.

"I remember," I managed to choke out

"Good, good," that bastard started to laugh, "Now I sent you a package, it should've arrived by now..."

"I got it."

"Oh really? Fabulous. It has everything you need to finish this Mr. Grant. Well except a location of course haha. Where was it...?"

"What the hell are you talking about? How can you not know the location where we're supposed to meet?"

"Meet? Oh my dear boy no! I did agree to turn myself in to you and to let you kill me on sight, but I'm not quite ready yet. After all, I haven't even lived half my life yet. Well I suppose that might not be true if you find me soon..."

"If you aren't telling me where you are, than what are you going on about."

"I've always had an interest in games Mr. Grant. Now I realize this may sound as if I'm cheating you, but how many killers would even give you this oppritunity? I assure you by the time we're done, you'll have my head and everything you need to know about why I did it (in case you were curious). Now I'm very sorry I have to go, it's tea time."

"What? Wait you bastard!"

"Rosewood drive, 2436."

Rosewood drive, 2436.

An old abandoned hotel, scheduled to be demolished the next week.

How fitting I thought, Give me a nice, creepy place to go to. Nice try but I don't have fear anymore...

Only thoughts of revenge.

Though now that I look back on it, the place scares the shit outta me. I was just lucky I didn't understand what was happening yet, or I never would've carried on.

The package I was sent contained three things: A key to the front door, a flashlight, and an envelope. I had placed the key and envelope in my pocket, and taped the flashlight atop my gun before I left to drive to the hotel.

With my gun drawn, I unlocked the door and stepped inside.

The envelope I'd received contained no message, but it was pretty easy to figure out what I was supposed to do. Written in large letters across the front of the envelope, were the words

Room 180.

I quickly turned on my flashlight and panned the beam around the lobby. Soon enough the light fell onto the staircase.

I ran over and leaped up the first three steps, in my anxious, adrenaline filled state. Unfortunately, I instantly found out how terrible an idea that was, with my feet easily getting caught in the darkness outside of my flashlight's glow. tumbling to the ground, I smacked my chin off a step, dropped my gun-light down the stairs, and lazily rolled down after it.

Laying there, in the partial darkness, four thoughts quickly crossed through my mind,

GODDAMMIT!

It's alright, it's alright. cool yourself man. Stay calm.

I'm so lucky my pistol's got its safety on.

If anybody else's inside this hotel, I'm as good as dead right now...

After laying there, face down, for several minutes, I came to the conclusion that either I was the only one in the hotel, or the other people here weren't going to kill me. Either way, there was no use in continuing to lie there on ground.

So I dusted myself off, picked up my gun-light, and made my way calmly up the stairs and down the hallway to the wooden door labelled

180.

I was only given one key inside the package sent to me, so I tried the doorknob. It easily turned. As the door slid open I heard laughter coming from inside. I immediately clicked the safety off on my gun.

"Mr. Grant! I was hoping that noise on the stairwell was you!"

Tony smiles and shakes Will's hand. Then lights himself a cigar and offers Will one.

Well you do not dissapoint man. I liked it. You've got some talent. I just hope we get to keep on reading writings from you.

Report Post Tip

Will laughs and takes the cigar

"Thanks man I really appreciate that. I've always loved writing, just didn't ever really have an idea of what to write about. Now that I've got one, I like puttin' it out there."
